Surfed almost daily for 10 years, and then less frequently for another 10. Even when I was young and fearless, I was well aware of my limits. Kooks don't go out in overhead, much less double overhead surf. They sit on the beach and lie to their friends how they were really "shredding it", and that "ya shoulda been here yesterday". Waves with 15'+ faces are, and should be, pretty terrifying to most people.
LoL... I am a total nube at surfing, aged 49. I did skate in a past life for about 8yrs so ballance is totally still there. Don't know if i answer to the specs for being a kook but in France i took on an 8ft wave...
I was scared being in an 18sec swell i'll tell you but i took that thing (and surfed straight back to shore)
Later that afternoon i went into 10ft waves, caught in between a nasty set of walls, tried to take one but bailed when on top of the wave. Eventually i got puked out by the beach break, nasty with pebbles... and slid over the beach for about 20ft... lol.
I was traumatized and still am a little bit...lol.

Tor Marquis yes, actually had situation like this while surfing very fast wave. I had priority, another guy was on the wave, I made him just notice I was there in priority, not need to leave me the wave and he decided to cut back and fall with the point of his surfboard heading against me .. he was intermediate surfer
so that guy really sucks when without the priority decides to do a cut back..
