i just watched this for the first time since i made it... wow, i sound terrible. i'm pretty sure i was just getting off being sick and i guess i was a bit more voice shy. sorry about that haha
VLSkate I love your tutorials, I'm trying to commit to kick and heel flips...i can do the rotation good on both (but my board goes like forward), but my back foot doesn't want to come on the board I'm a big fan greetings from Italy and keep killing it
A heel flip is when u kick out with your heel causing the board to rotate inward and a kick flip is when you kick out with your toe causing the board to rotate outwards
To me, the best tip for landing the heelflip is to keep your shoulders straight. A very big problem that most beginner skaters have is jumping away from the board. Right before they pop they lean back so the board goes in front of them. So if you can stay straight up and down, you should get tricks way faster.
Javier Castro This is very true. When I noticed this skating by myself, I started to hold my hand out a little... I would try to imagine my hand horizonal to the ground. That helped me notice and feel how straight I was standing, bending and popping. Plus, I didn't know I was bending my back when I was skating at first. Now it's all in the knees. Try it!
I can't do either yet but I definitely find heelflips easier, I'm always afraid when I kickflip that I'm gonna get popsicled, heelflips feel nice and natural
@@kobeigtbh6742 try doing an ollie north with your foot hanging off the board. It was way easier for me to get the board rotating once I thought of it this way.
Wow I didn’t even realise that putting the front foot further back increases the flip speed. I “over” flip on kickflips a lot and that may be the reason. Cool!
Just learned how to heel flip literally after only an hour and a half of practice and I’ve never practiced heel flips until now. This video was better than any other one I watched. Thanks so much.
You deserve so many more subs than you have, I respect and learn so much from your vids and I pick them over any other. Keep doing these videos they're great and I'm sure, just as inspiring and helpful to skaters as they are to me.
I don’t understand how to not make the heelflip go into a dolphin heel, how to get the flicking motion, and how to get it to go in front of me instead of behind me. Thank you
Kiran Kramer I’m still tryna learn them but u gotta slide up like an Ollie then kick your heel out. It’s weird. When u slide up don’t slide your foot straight up slide it so your toes are pointing down then just flick out with your heel.
The dolphin heel happens when you flick off the top of the nose, try to flick at an earlier point on the nose like the front pocket (it’s been a year hope that this helps if you haven’t landed it)
Learned heelflips in one day by watching this and also I learned tricks like the pop shuv, kickflip, Ollie, boardslides so I had good board control and confidence
I've been skating for 10 years and this spring when the snow melted I COULDN'T HEELFLIP ANYMORE!! I literally had no idea what was going wrong I've been skating long enough that I can usually self diagnose any issues, adjusting weight distribution, set-up, truck tightness, changing where/how I flick off and literally nothing made sense. Sometimes I could land them and other times I'd be totally hopeless. TODAY I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT! WHEN LEANING BACK YOU MUST STICK YOUR REAR END OUT FURTHER TO GET MORE WEIGHT BEHIND THE BOARD! THIS ALSO HELPS YOU SEE THE BOARD ROTATE UNDER YOU! before I was literally bending straight down to pop and trying to lean my shoulders back which would put my head behind my knees so I could hardly see the board rotate as well and made you land with your weight way to far forward! Even if the board stayed under me and I jumped on it I'd fall forward when I landed. Pretty sure I'd occasionally do this with tre flips too but it wasn't such an issue because 360 flips rotate in front of you so my weight would more or less even out, but it felt like I was rotating them blindly which made it scarier to catch!
Vlskate I just started learning heel flips today it's A lot easier than kick flips for me I will prob get in 1-2 weeks I'm really close thanks for the great content ur to to for learning trick 😃
No matter how much I tell myself "lean back" I end up flicking it behind me and landing before my board does, jump higher, lean back further, my board flips into my heel every time, cant tell you how many sessions I'd go home with a bruised achilles from the damn heelflip biting me
you're probably not popping straight down with your back foot but putting a little scooping action in by accident - try putting your back foot more towards the heel side of the tail as demonstrated in the video above. If that doesn't work and you're still adding an accidental shove-it motion, try popping ever so slightly frontside - not so much as that you'd do a front shove or varial heel, but just to make sure you don't backside scoop.
In order to master your heel flips quicker, try mastering the basic tricks, such as ollie, backside pivot, frontside pivot, frontside 180, backside 180, pop shuvit, fake pop shuvit, and frontside pop shuvit.
I was tryna learn to kickflip with the proper foot position and everything and it did the heel flip rotation lol so I think I prefer heel flips and I’m going to try do them properly

+sharkeisha thegoat/ Iceman i can't help you much with the heelflips but when you the first signs of the credit card of doom, lean forward and just kick it away with your back foot. it's saved me from many hours of pain trying to lean this trick
Find a Rail like this one. And make sure your taller than it. The go right in front of it, then face away and have your arms holding on top. Then attempt a heelflip. Use the railing to pull yourself up. It will help you a lot. I remember for kickflips, I would be able to land them using railing, but when I tried it without it I couldn't land it. I had the same problem and it messed me up for a long while but just try flipping it and landing with one foot only so either lean really far over nose or tail n catch it with your one foot and it will keep you from being fully over the board and then eventually bring you self to stay centered and you should land it, I believe the reason you credit card on a heel flip is just because you didn't slide your foot up enough before flicking off the side so make sure you slide your front foot up then out not straight off the side, good luck.
