    I used this video as a guide to replace my standard struts. Thanks for this! On my 2011 ML 350, I was able to get the passenger side off without loosening the axle nut, on the driver's side I had to remove the axle shaft from the knuckle to gain clearance. That side was not fun.

    Hi Mike, thank you for posting this. We have a GL450, 2011, and the front right has lowered similar to the vehicle you worked on. Except ours can still raise when the car is on..and usually takes hours or even half a day to eventually drop. I know this is wreaking havoc on the compressor I'm sure. We had the vehicle diagnosed and they said it was a leaking airbag. The recommendation for the part was "replace leaking front strut airbag" which I actually thought meant the entire strut (which has the airbag), but found out you can buy the air spring alone...which led me to your video. So I suspect that is what they were referring to. They wanted $700 for the part, just the part. I was also told the vehicle would have to be scanned to set levels or something. Is this accurate?

    • @mikes.garage
      @mikes.garage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The air spring for your car you can buy from $130 + shipping from Rockauto.com After I replaced this springs they self leveling, you don't need to scan anything. If you can't do it yourself try to go to different shop. Do not go to dealership!

    so I had my family car, a 2012 ML350 4Matic for transmission fluid change at 70K+ miles and the mechanic noticed that one of the rear coil spring was broken. I just bought the part, a Bilstein coil spring from FCP Euro. I decided to browse for the shocks/struts as well. Now I am worried if the front struts and rear shocks may be nearing their shelf life. I live in Minneapolis and the weather is really harsh each year with the snow and the salted roads. Assuming the worst case scenario of having to get the front and the back replaced I would like to know the below from experts please.
    1. Can the front struts’ brand be different than the back? I plan to go with Sachs (Kit-166320) in the front and Bilstein B4 (BIL-24271011 x 2) on the back.
    2. What exactly is Bilstein B6 (BIL-24273671) and how is it compared to the B4? Is B6 really worth more dollars?
    3. Now that I have already bought the Bilstein rear coil springs, should I buy only Bilstein rear shocks or can I opt for Sachs rear if I change my mind?
    4. Is there a vendor/website other than FCP whom you would like to recommend considering the expenses now that I may run into on parts and labor?
    5. Lastly, how many hours do you guys think would take getting all 4, the front and back struts/shocks replaced? I plan to start calling the mechanics around and negotiate on the labor. What is a nominal per hour rate?
    Please note that I hardly put a maximum of 6000 miles per year on the vehicle since this is not for every day use. At the same time I want to make it safe for wife and kids considering the weather here. Please suggest your thoughts.

      Hello, from everything what you mention in your comment, I would replace just rear coil springs from both size and that is it.
      1. Yes you can install the front struts’ with one brand and back with other brand.
      2. The Bilstein B6 (BIL-24273671) is performance shock absorber and B4 is OE replacement. B6 is going to be more stiffer, I don't think you need it.
      3.If you have Bilstein rear coil springs, you don't need to buy only Bilstein rear shocks you can buy Sachs as well.
      4. You can search online about different suppliers. I live in Canada and know only www.pelicanparts.com in US. 5. All the work should take approximately around 4-6 hours. Prices everywhere is different, if you know somebody who is fixing car in his garage, the price can be two or three times cheaper.
      I recommend you to replace only rear springs and that is it for now.

      @@mikes.garage Thanks Mike! Will get to know next week how the shocks and struts are doing in detail. Do you think a wheel alignment is needed after replacing the coil springs or is that something that’s necessary when the shocks are replaced please? As always, i appreciate you taking time to read my long post and replying. Keep the videos coming.

    • @mikes.garage
