    I really enjoyed this video, myself. I do think there’s a good point that your technique still needs some work, but I also appreciated that you shared being as tall as you are Howell that makes your feet so much longer, so it seems like that’s going to be a particular issue you have with pedals. I think your review is really good, your videography is probably better than you think it is, and your opinion is valid. They are expensive, but like you said if they work for somebody they could probably work for decades. Thanks for putting this out there.

    There is an adjustment on the direct drive bar to lower the pedal and on these new ones the beater doesn't move when you adjust it so you can lower your footboard and that allows you to use the whole board this way. Thats what I did and it made a major improvement. Now I love them

      I play mcd double pedals and just perfect for me. Superb pedal from dw. Sve se lako može namjestiti jedino je dosta skupa ali vrijedi svakog centa. Svaka čast inženjerima iz dw factory!!!

    Had the 9000 pedal now my whole set has the machined pedals standard foot boards hat stand included love them all they are a work of art... Also bought a used set of machined standard footboards off of reverb I guess someone had changed to the long boards Did a conversion on a 5000 pedal Also did a conversion on a Roland electronic controller Works well looks nice..

    Gorgeous pedals but the price is outrageous. DW must be thinking drummers are rich like Neal Peart. Thanks for the review bro.

      Especially if you play double kick with two kick drums instead of a double pedal, 1300+ dollars for pedals is kinda nuts:/
      Edit:it looks like this double pedal is still $1,300 even tho he said it’s out of box which is weird usually stores give a discount for open box

    Time for some Trick bigfoots or Axis pedals.
    I feel like these would do great for most people but for going to heal toe with big feet maybe not.

    • @uonadtehrrocks
      @uonadtehrrocks 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also with heal toe people usually do slide a bit, not trying to do it with the foot in the same position.

      I ended up buying some Trick Pro 1-V big foot low mass pedals. They also did not work out for me. This time though, I dont have any feature to complain about. They were awesome. I just couldnt find my groove with them. I ended up with the Tama HP910LWN Speed Cobra 910. They do everything I want, with the most robust pedal case I have ever seen, for half of the cost of the DW 9000s/DW MFG pedals/Trick pro 1-v

      @@viridescentjake thing with the Tricks is you need more time practicing as your feet are fighting a strong compressing spring, not the opposite, and its like almost a new motion. After a year of practice and adjusting, I feel comfortable now.

    • @viridescentjake
      @viridescentjake  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nikedgerated Thanks for your insight. I totally agree. When you start using a new pedal, it's very common to fight how that new pedal feels. To your point, after some practice time with new pedals, you learn how to stop fighting them and let them work for you. I think Trick makes great pedals and it's awesome you are comfortable with them now!

    I had the same issue with my OLD school DW9000 plastic case, driveshaft had to be dissembled to fit so I always threw it somewhere else.

    Do the beaters swivel with each hit of the bass drum kick or can they be tightened at an angle ?

    Dude! great review, definitely missing in the internet, well, I did broke my head 3 years ago about the dw mdds too, and after contacting DW directly I realized they went full Apple Inc. (In the recent bad years), for that huge price a lot of information was missing, I did cared about the long boards because I have a big foot too, and for that price I would like them to become two singles and be as modular as posible, , they replied to me that they were designed to be the best double pedal in the market ... and ofc no conversion and that they were already longboards.
    This video does confirm to me that DW indeed went full Apple - stupid design on this product, those sprigs are totally in the way, the clamp is quirky, it could be more but they delete features for you to purchase more, and so on. So sad, maybe the chain drive are better as a fancier 9000 XF?, still too expensive for that.
    I ended up buying the Tricks which are an investment too but on this ones the footboards are massive, the quality is tops, luckily at that point I haven't had a set of pedals of my own for a very long time, always using backline (mainly those common Pearl pedals that come with the kits) so I felt like a blank slate for pedal feel and so far so good, they feel great to me, and they are simple-ish, not having a regular spring system is AMAZING, the tricks are not perfect but they are modular so you can get them to your liking if you really commit to them, sometimes we spect the gear to adjust to us out of the box but like many tools in other industries you have to learn how to use the tools so you adjust to the tools, and with time you dominate them.

      I had a trick pedal and tried my buddies new dw machine drive chain double pedal and my trick pedal was on ebay the next day and 3 days later I had a new dw mcd of my own and it's far superior in my mind. I play fast double bass, metal, heavy rock. The dw pedal is heavier duty and is more sdjustable. If you haven't tried one in person then you really don't know what you're missing. I was skeptical at first but it really is that good bro.

      @@patriotgunner I am so unhappy with the Trick hihat stand, that I just ordered the DW 9000 one just to compare but I think is only my stubbornness about going DW like everybody else...

    • @patriotgunner

      @@jamesnikki5 I never have been a "gear snob" but I got turned on by the dw brand about 15 years ago when I played a guys kit one day and everything about it was just so perfect in my eyes. I was playing Pearl Masters at that time and previous to that I had Pearl Sessions so I had experience with high end drum sets but I really fell in love with the dw's every since. I had a few other drum sets here and there but I've had 3 dw kits and love them. I'm always up for trying new gear tho because you never know what you'll fall in love with until you play it. I thought the Trick pedal was great but I've never tried the Trick hi hat stand

    • @jamesnikki5
      @jamesnikki5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@patriotgunner Quality on the trick hi-hat stand is tops as you imagine, it feels great too, but the geometric is kind of stupid, see, the footboard is already massive and it still has 2 inches or more between the top edge of the footboard and the edge of the "tube" so it sends your hihats (14") away by a lot, you can place it closer to you but you end up putting your feet mainly in a chunk of nothing a little on the top edge waisting that delicious massive pedal board. This may be a blessing if you use 16" hihats, but for 14" and 15"s is very uncomfortable.
      Yeh I am thinking to go full dw and stop being a gear snob hahaha

      No, I sent them back on one of the following days after posting this video. I would say they're really good pedals that are very expensive. I have been using Tama dyna-sync pedals since which are also really good, especially for the price. (Included hard case).

    These pedals are not super expensive. Anyone who thinks they are need to reevaluate your financial perspective. It's all relevant based on your perspective. Features and benefits relate to value. There is a lot of machine work and technology in those pedals. That's just not cheep. My Axis A12 Laser long boards cost more than those. I've had them a decade and they are still like new. People who complain about breaking things usually are abusive and fail to do regular cleaning and maintenance. People who complain about price buy cheep stuff and just don't sacrifice to have nice things. They're cheep. No one likes someone who is cheep.

    • @viridescentjake
      @viridescentjake  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lol cheep. Like I said in the video, I thought they were great pedals, but were not a great fit for me. I also specifically made a comment about how purchasing something like this should be looked at as an investment, because if you take care of them like I do, they could last you 20 years. Good on you though that you have unlimited budget for your hobby. In the real world, $1300 is a lot of money. The pedals ARE super expensive when they cost more than double what other great options do, like the tama speed cobras at $550. Come back to reality. No one likes someone who is rude.

I learned on a Ludwig speed king squeak squeak... I've also played many pedals over the years the DW machine pedals are far superior than any pedal on the market...

    Swivel method is the absolutely most ridiculous waste of energy... heal toe has more legitimacy... straight singles and doubles seem smarter. Just work on all the same rudiments with your feet as you do with your hands. Use a metronome trainer.
