I have the same routine for my water needs, rain water catchment in the summer and either melt snow or cut through the lake ice and get water from there in the winter. Been doing it that way for 8 years.
I'm surprised at the number of people openly breaking the law. I know they made collecting rain water illegal in certain states. Your probably banking on them not raiding you over collecting water and they probably won't but I wouldn't openly advertise it unless your state allows it.
@@Wearespurstv It’s perfectly legal here. And if they want to raid me they will be quite thirsty by the time they get here. I’ll have some fresh clean cold water waiting for them.

Thank you Kyle! You keep things simple and I sure appreciate that. I'm a 75 year old woman living off grid alone. Simplicity is my goal. Blessings to you and Sierra.
You have certainly made great improvements to your life style in the woods, it looks very nice & cosy. I remember when you first moved into your first cabin - trying to get the woodstove to the cabin such a lot of very hard work - look what you have now it is great. So with your chicken Coop quite a way from the cabin what do you use to protect your birds, I imagine animals will try to get into the coop & grab the chickens. Enjoy your video's Kyle good content & how you have grown with your Off The Grid life style. Cheers
Great job. I guess you have to keep the water heater low so you don't burn yourself. Also, a rain barrel on the chicken house may be helpful for garden watering.
Won't the straight hot water into the shower be too hot for your body and burn you. The shower usually has a cold/hot mix and you make it comfortable for your shower. Maybe you have a secret alternative, just am worried you get burned. Thanks for a great video. Love you and thumbs up 👍👍👍
Nice job on the water system design. Good explanation of everything. I’d leave the propane tank inside. Easier to change out when necessary. Yard looks great!
Dude I think if you build a little cover on top of your deck it would make the front of your house look a lot better. Like one of the slatted wooden beam ones 😀
Your running water must be so luxurious after so much hauling! Good job! I am concerned about dirt, elements in the barrels & pipes & germs. We have a well & septic. We use a Burkey water filter for drinking & cooking water. It’s not cheap, but much better than getting sick!
Excellent thanks Kyle for taking the time to explain ur off grid water system man I'm still looking around for a piece of property to purchase I can't wait to find something I like right now I'm in Ohio and I just don't want to be in the city no more..

When we first moved here we had a cistern system (rain water collected off roof into gutters) ....we drank it and used it for cooking too..not just showers laundry dishes...we were told to either use a chorinator or just put chlorine bleach down into cistern. We never got sick from it. I don't remember now how much bleach we were told to put into cistern. When it Did NOT rain for awhile, we had to call "the Water Guy" to bring a truck tank full of "city water" to us. He was the guy who explained about the bleach, and how to "prime " the pump....now I have "city" water...and don't remember what all he told me
looks good - nice to see you clearing out some - you can and should do even more but maybe plant a few apple trees too - think about a concrete cistern or just double or triple up the barrels...put in another few raised beds, add some bags of cow manure to the cleared land, consider adding some lime also

Nice job Kyle. We have a very similar setup in our off grid cabin and another in our bathhouse/sauna. Good job, Kyle. Love to see the progress. I was glad to see you can regulate the water temp in the shower. How are the chickens doing, I know you lost two? Thank you for the simple explanation! Some other off-grid TH-camrs get way more complicated with their explanation of their water supply and water heater hookups. You follow the KISS method I like. Keep It Stupid Simple. Even a fool has trouble messing that up! Now it makes me wonder, will this water system work in a fullsize house? I'm thinking probably for 2 people. See, by your example you get other people thinking of a way out of the ordinary to get things done the easy way! You've done half the testing for us! And you're happy with your explanation! You need a better constructed pressure treated wood base under that big barrel, and a better barrel, maybe a bit higher for better outlet pressure.
The downspout needs a clean out port, upstream.
The rain water should be prefiltered before the barrel.
You can also buy cheap insertable gutter guards to stop leaves, needles and other debris outta your collection gutter. The wire ones better.
Both the gutter and collection barrel should be cleaned regularly.
You need some chemical water disinfectant in water storage barrels.
You need to Berkey filter this water, but I don't think you're drinking it.
I told you how to build and set up an outdoor wood-fired water distiller, for drinking water.
You drink bottled, no?

get a rain barrel by the garden to dip a water can in all you need to do is ut the top of barrel off and over it with screen to keep bugs out

You should have installed a cold water line so the hot water is scalding hot.
Or just turn the heater thermostat down when you shower.
@@garysork5603 The temperature can only go so low and still be scalding hot.
46.4 deg. F temp. Rise on low setting. With 50 inlet that’s 96 outlet. But your right. Still could get burned. I would have ran cold too.
