  • We show you how to set ignition timing using a Hondata S300. Setting ignition timing should always be the first step to tuning your car before you start making pulls. If your ignition timing is not synced, you could cause catastrophic engine damage.

    Really helpful video,these guys are first rate. Timed my D16 today and HTS also has ignition lock. Y7 block and head stock valvetrain and 12 BTDC has the distributor all the way towards the firewall. I did have the block decked and head milled. There's alot of debate about using the OBD1 camgear on the Y series when running an OBD1 ECU. I just set base timing at 12 and send it. Any other corrections can be made in the ignition map since the mechanical timing is correct for the engine at least that's my philosophy on it .

    I've been wanting to learn what the tuners were doing when they "synched " the timing and they never explain.
    The cam thing is good even if it does have covers, on an LSvtec for instance....my cover is from a gsr to match my oil pump, and the mark is off...I scribed one when setting the static timing on t belt installation during build, but it's harder to see...I like the cam trick.
    But I bought a manual timing light, I see now how handy that dial is!

    Why when you put timing gun on pulley it was 10 degrees and on cam gears 4 degree . That where I got lost but I understand the rest was the dizzy slightly moved in between when you checked the pully and cam gears after. You have to get a timing light that tells the degree to see if timing might be slightly like in this case by two degree. I have a timing gun with no digital info on degrees just a light bulb flashing

  • @Calibrate_Ed
    @Calibrate_Ed 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you be better explain the process? When using the crank pulley you can set the timing light to 0 degrees and the tdc mark should align with the timing cover. You then set your timing light to 16 for example and them move the distributor until you align the tdc line again. You are then 16 degrees past tdc. How does this process work when using the cams as a reference?

      @duanebailey6253 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Map should be preloaded in the drop down bar on the MAP tab. To calibrate the tps you can set by volage with a meter or in the data logger .51 closed and 5v WOT. Im 95% sure on those numbers. you just loosen the two nuts in the back of the TPS and move it till it reads right. If its OEM and never been touched it will be fine. Or you can go in the app and set the TPS manually under the TPS tab just need to set it off throttle then full throttle its just a few clicks. Crome will corrupt if you set TPS in the ECU so you need to set the TPS correctly.

      The distributor can only move between a certain threshold of degrees relative to what the car is demanding.

    In reference to the car in the video. If you set the drop down box to 14 and hit ok would the ecu then always think its set to base 14 degrees? Would that then solve the problem of it not adjusting to 16 degrees?

    • @humbleperformance
      @humbleperformance  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wish it were that simple, but no. If you change the lock to 14* the distributor's max adjustment will still be x amount of * off. The distributor adjustment is relative to the camshaft, not the computer if that makes sense. So if your max distributor adjustment is 9-14*, when trying to synch to 16*, when you switch to 14*, it'll shif tto 7-12*. It is a good question though.
