    I love it when Mike gets these Olympia guys on his channel, Frank Zane, Jay, those are legendary guys that I have massive respect for. And so does Mike, you can see it while he's talking to those guys.

      He techniques that Jays described? Great for guys n GH. Same with Mike Mentzers HIT path. That type of training is for HGH guys. They just want to trash the muscles and feed them GH. Rest of us donthat kinda workouts? Your gonna get serious injuries and end up a 50 old Gimp. You will wreck your joints.

    I’m 56 now and started training at 14, I can definitely understand what is being said here. I am so much more dialed in. I can now get better results in less time, slightly less weight, better quality reps with less reps between sets. It’s just comes with experience

      I agree with you. I'm 58, and started lifting at 13. Competed in my younger years. What I know now I wish I knew back then. I had to stop competing due to injuries. But, I still workout regularly.

      @@lochielifts I've always trained really hard, and it's definitely possible to go too hard because I have. My shirt is completely soaked after my workouts even now that I've calmed down a lot. It feels so heavy after taking it off after the workout. I sweat a lot genetically though as well.

      @@richardchapman594 Jay is on TRT now for sure. I definitely can believe that. Jay is huge and ripped, but he doesn't have that dryness and vascularity of a steroid user any more at all really. Jay is still bigger and more ripped than most guys competing, which is amazing, but we're talking about some of the worlds best genetics for bodybuilding and lifting weights. Mike I don't know. I don't think Mike has been fully honest, so it's hard to say what he's taking, while Jay has been real honest about his usage. Gear alone doesn't make a person look good anyway. How many people at your local gym are on gear with very little muscle and strength? A ton i'm sure. There are tons of people at my gym on juice who look awful. Genetics is really just so so huge with everything.

    gonna be 52 this year. Train 5 days a week. Plus cardio "walking outside/spinning on the bike" 5 days a week. Deadlift 2x a week with my new routine. I have goals to reach still..People either get it,or they run around lost..

    The key is consistency. You don't have to do the same program, same sets or reps every workout. You just have to stimulate the muscles.
    Not saying u should drop to 1 set per muscle all of a sudden, but to diversify the training, so u will always have fun doing it.
    As long as u keep working out u can maintain a great body as u age.

      Your last sentence is spot on. I was lucky to be around the people growing up whom I learned training from, I listened to everything they said and grew...the only thing they never told me is what you put into it now (then) will show up later. I'm 40 and in better shape then 99% of the other gym members and apparently everyone at the beach this weekend..if I had known it would carry over I would of gone even harder and got bigger in my 20s. So hopefully this motivates someone somewhere...

      Facts I was in a r 5:04 ut dropped to 3x a week from 5. I'd workout 3 days then take off 4 trash had no progress I'm working out 4 days 2 days on 1 day 2 days 2 days. I've made progress quicker then weeks of 3 days a week

    ive always said, if u know how to recover, if u feel it and are able u can train seven days a week smart, it may not be “optimal”, but everything in training is about the feel, the flow, if u feel it and are getting everything outside the gym locked in, then u will grow going 7 days or 4 a week, i love it too much not to go 7, whether im there 2 hrs of 45 minutes, this video is packed with highlights

      Well said. My diet, supplement and recovery is all on point so I train 7 days a week too. Of course we need to cycle through intensity periods. If I take a day off it will involve an intense cardio / cycling session.. I love it too much to take a day off and I’ve got the free time to do it everyday ❤

    Man this interview really changed my perspective. I used to have such a hard working attitude and just focused on crushing.     I am 41 now and looked better than i did 20 years ago because I am more patient and thoughtful with my workouts. I use 1 working set per NEED! So, top shelf of my chest-1 working set with may be 2 to even 4 feel sets which are great for pumping up before the final failure set, then 1 working set for say side delts, 1 working set for upper back etc This is Dorian's and Mike's philosophy and it works for damn sure. However, recovery factor is an issue, I take enough rest as I feel I need

      My recovery does seem like it's longer than it used to be, but the lifts are more intense than they used to be, so I guess that's just the way that goes.

      Hey, so I’ve been doing something very similar after training for 10+ years with less intensity, and something I haven’t figured out is rest. I don’t get as sore but I do find it lasts longer, it could take 4 days until I stop feeling a muscle, tho I can train it hard just after two days and it feels fine. Since you mentioned a lot of rest, how long do you take per body part before training it again?

      @@Tatutoo Hey there, hope you are well? Men! I go hard on each working set and it takes me the entire week to get rid of soreness. it varies from person to person according to age, what super supplements they are taking, of which I honestly do not take any yet as I do not need TRT just yet. However, It will take a week for me. When your session is done, you will feel fine for 2-3 days, the inflammation subsides, the muscle will lose extra fluid and soreness kicks in, in a few days, the soreness will go but that is because fluid make their way back into the muscle as glycogen stores start getting replaced. Therefore, just because you are not sore, it does not mean your muscles have recovered, fluid hides the soreness. Therefore, a good rule of thumb is once a week if you are natural. I will train 1 upper body and 1 lower body in a week and the next week, I do not go to failure. It is called a deload week. After the deload week, I got to failure again and no failure the following week and so on. People will say, upper body once a week!!! I say yes. You will get super jacked provided each working set per exercise is with proper technique and going all the way to failure.

I’ve been giving myself 3-4 days regularly after going the heavier/intensity route and getting much better results in all aspects, so I’ll be trying if some more rest works even better. Jay is on TRT these days, and i don't know what Mikes on since he won't talk about like Jay does. Jay does have some of the best genetics ever, so it's not surprising that Jay makes Mike look smaller.

      @@beatdown3361 Mike might have more a physique that the average joe would want, but I think it's pretty obvious Jay is definitely carrying a lot more muscle than Mike. He definitely has a better bodybuilding physique right now. Jay just looks crazy. He's close to 250 ripped at 5 9 on TRT. The bicep Jay tore has always looked a bit strange, and has taken symmetry away from his arms for sure. Mike is amazing though for sure, and does some incredible things, but Jay has him in terms of size. Mikes performance though is usually insane, and he can do things that very few people can do, while Jay dosn't train like that lately, or even try to at all. They're both amazing guys.

    Mike has long preached about warm up sets and when Jay says he hates that term you can see Mike scramble to come up with something diplomatic to keep the conversation moving and not get bogged down in a debate.

      He legit liked the "feel set" term. As long as I've watched Mike, He hasn't warmed up with light weight. Usually 1 or 2 reps with decent weight and then worked his way up with limited rep sets.

      Yeah was about to comment this. If you are natural 7 days a week is to much. I've done 5 and that gets hard to recover from. Plus Jat saying he does 6 exercises and 5 sets each? 30 sets each day and seven days a week. Can't recover from that naturally

      @@loganlandis5935 I work 8hs, have a wife and daughter, hence I go two times a week, otherwise it's a wate of time. I go with my brother in law. People come now and then to ask us what are we doing since they see us growing, I almost don't bother telling them anymore, the moment you tell them you go twice a week is like saying you come from Mars. People just don't wanna get it, specially young kids that love to live in the gym every day, hours and hours. A natural lifter, if he trains for real needs a couple days to fully recover, not just from local but systemic fatigue. But people don't wanna hear that, they want the last Cbum trainning split.

      i do 6 days ~2 hours per day, usually muscle group stops being sore the day it gets worked again lol. I just eliminated things that felt higher risk, like deadlift and barbell back squat. Swapping them for like rack pull and belt squat. I put on a lot of muscle with first bulk i did last year. went from 195 to 230lbs then down to 213, now i'm going to go up to 250 then down to 220ish. Trying to fill out 6'4 frame is tough, especially since it took me until 30 years old to figure out how to eat enough

    I don't "love" training, probably because I do too much of it (12 times a week currently). But at the same time, not being able to train would be one of the worst things that could happen to me, I shudder at the thought. I enjoy the weights when I'm hitting all my numbers and blowing through everything (which is never, lol). The cardio, I'd enjoy it more if I didn't do so much of it. But if I didn't do "so much", I'd get fat, fast.

      Cut down what you're eating and you won't have the energy to go so often.
      12 times a week is excessive and can be a detriment to your recovery.
      I train 3, rest one day, rest, train legs, rest - repeat. The three train days I hit chest, back, shoulders an triceps and biceps on chest, back days respectively.
      Does very very well for me.

    These two talking about muscle building process as if they are trying to explain Stephen Hawking's thesis on black holes to a bunch of half-wits. Look, pretty much any bodybuilder of any caliber as well as any recreational lifter understands the basic logic behind muscle building process. You two achieving what you have achieved so far is because of your consistency (which plenty of people have), knowledge (which plenty of people have), hard work (which plenty of people have), strict diet (which plenty of people have), incredible genetics (which most people do not have). Hence the reason why Jay Cutler has been Mr Olympia multiple times. You downplay genetics to elevate your knowledge or consistency as if you are the only ones who posses that. Whereas in reality, genetics is the only factor we have no control over, therefore the one with the best genetics wins, because everything else can be controlled. So there is nothing out there you could say to anyone which would transform them into a Mr Olympia caliber for instance. Just like why Jay Cutler could not win against Ronnie because Ronnie had better genetics, it's as simple as that. Jay did not win, rather Ronnie lost due to age catching up to him. Do you really think Cbum is winning because he has some magical sauce from Canada? Or because he does something others do not do? Or it must be because he trains 12 times per week like Mike does? No, all of them are working just as hard, but in the end, genetics determine the champion.

    listening to your own body, which is not easy. not many can go by feel. thats how i always trained. mike mentzer style is good for me too. more rest, but always always go hard in the gym.
