      I just bought a 98 LX470, done a few thousand km in it already, original suspension rebuilt before I bought it, bloody brilliant! Came with all the normal 4wd accessories too. Ready for the outback. It's in SA. I have a solid axle LC as well but that independent front and the factory fitted rear diff lock is definitely growing on me.

    As an NS Pajero owner since 2011 I can concur, its an amazing vehicle that is both very good on road and off road. The driving dynamics I found were better than the Prado I test drove at the time, and is still very decent off-road with a mild lift, good 32" tires, rear diff-lock and some underbody protection. Absolutely zero issues with it for the 12 years of ownership. Actually was looking at upgrading it this past year but couldnt justify the amount of costdifference to upgrade (esp since interest rates have gone up), so will keep it for a few more years I reckon.

    With each petrol option. Beware dodgey LPG conversions. I had a decent prado, completely let down by the subpar LPG install.

    Jimnys are great little bush bashers. Patrols are better before 2006 from what my sister's brother-in-law says as he had nothing but problems with his old 2012 & his 2019 before buying his current 2003 model. Landcruisers are fantastic cross country & mountain climbing car. Colorados are fine work vehicle according to my cousin who has 2 of them. Pajeros are decent too, but just buy a Landcruiser. Jeeps are too much of a gamble to bother with if you ask me. Personally despite my better judgement, I'd go the Jimny if I can't get a 2 door Rav 4.

    In most markets (most of Africa in particular) there's pretty much little to no dealer/aftermarket support for the Patrol, or pretty much any Nissan/Infiniti for that matter. So it won't really be a great idea to own one. Goodluck even finding one to buy. Land Cruiser/ Land Cruiser Prado or Pajero? They're everywhere, especially the 120/150/200 series Land Cruiser/Prado.

    • @Kierdziol
      @Kierdziol ปีที่แล้ว

      MoAfrica, but there are good numbers of Patrols in the Middle East.
      The Y61 is known there as Safari/Super Safari and offered with TB48DE motor, with the choice of either manual or automatic transmission and it can be either swb or lwb.
      But aside from this region, You're better off with Land Cruiser.

  • @TheStigHCE09
    @TheStigHCE09 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Apart from maybe the late model Patrols at a pinch, go for a petrol in any of these and many other models besides rather than a diesel.
    Not only are the petrols much cheaper to buy, the diesels all tend to have their own idiosyncratic BS that goes wrong with them which is why they're going for cheap. Or, like the 100- and 80-Series Cruisers, the diesels are very hardy but slow as a wet week and very, very high in mileage at this price.
    Just don't be shocked with the fuel bill on a petrol fourbie.

    • @Kierdziol
      @Kierdziol ปีที่แล้ว

      Or just swap the motor for more realible one (especially when it comes to Patrol).
      Here in Poland few shops specialize in swaps for M57 BMW engines, but that's an option for folks who are not afraid of experiments.
      I'd personally also go for petrol option and add lpg install (which are quite popular here, given the fuel prices per average wage).

      Mitsi Pajero/Shogun (4th gen)
      Petrol: more efficient, more power, cheaper maintenance, lifespan of 600,000 Km
      Diesel: lower-curve power, lots of used models, lifespan of 900,000 Km only if looked after well
      Personally, I would go for the petrol, and have it as close to stock as possible for the "light offroad". If you want the heavier stuff, then yes, I recommend having MODs, and Diesel, but I also think you should do that on a different vehicle. So in that respects, a used LandCruiser 100 makes sense for its price.

    "there are thousands of owners out there that have done huge and hard kilometres with the ZD30 and they've never had an issue". Excuse me, but where are these owners? Are they getting better longevity than similarly priced petrol patrols or 1HZ/FZ LCs? And since we are focusing on the 2000-09 era, how many ZD30s were sold vs how many are still alive today from that period? I can find cars for sale in many other models with kms well into the 400,000kms but Zd30s, not so much. But they are still priced like they last well past 300,000kms. If they do indeed last like other competing models, where are they? If the ZD30 is so good and not the worst motor to be put in a fullsize offroad focused SUV, how come it killed the relatively parity Patrol enjoyed with the landcruiser in the 90s? How come toyota could continue with the 5 year older 1HZ out of the 80 series right through the entire lifespan of the 105 series while gaining ground on the patrol as soon as the TD42 was discontinued?
    ps the guys at 4x4 24/7 are like...well known to be clowns. There advice is very sponsor driven, see all the Dmax peddling they do despite the many many broken CVs and such just trying to make it do what solid axle cars a decade older do in their sleep.
