The Warning appeared at TEDx on two separate occasions - 2016, and 2017. We learned that after reacting to this one, from 2017. We'll cover the first one in a reaction coming soon!
The group discuss their origins, motivations, and more, while performing three songs off their first album, XXI Century Blood: Unmendable, When I'm Alone, Survive

Hi. The album between XXI century blood and Error is Queen of the murder scene, which is a concept album, a novel. I recommend you see its presentation at Lunario in 2018, a year and a little more after this TedX. The interpretation of the album is incredible and it has very good sound and image, it is on their TH-cam channel.

Yep, you’ve done it now. You’ll never forget this one. It’s clearly impossible to watch without becoming a lifelong fan of these young ladies. Their family time was filled with watching concerts on TV of all the classics, Queen, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, as well as more current bands like Muse. Their sound, I’m pretty sure, will always pull from a wide spectrum of current and past rock.

Ale is the time keeper and the rock they lean on during the performances, because she's aware of everything going on. At 19:05, after Pau breaks her stick and gets a new one, Ale notices the lack of snare and looks over quickly to see what happened. All of this at age 10 or 11.

I also love how articulate and confident Ale is speaking on the stage. She has it in pocket even if she chooses not to show it off always.

    *Clarification:*
What Dany was talking about *"other people"* were Disney record label & shows like American Idol & American Got Ttalent. These entities told the girls if you do pop instead of rock. We can guarantee you will play in front of 120,000 people. Then Pau came back with *"I don't care if we play in front of 12 people just as long as we play the music we want".*
If I'm not mistaken. The band, who was managed by their father. Decided to hire a Manager after the released of their first album. They hired Rudy Joffery.

The second song (When I'm Alone) was written by 15yo Dany as a solo homework assignment when the girls attended a 2015 summer session of the Berklee School of Music at Boston. After 5 weeks away from home Dany was extremely homesick, and she spent most of her school days isolated from her sisters in classes filled with older, English-only speakers. The assignment was due the last week of classes, and Dany was stumped until this masterpiece poured out of her soul during the night before she had to present it. Also known as "Dany's Song" by the danbase.

The second song was written by a 15yr old Dany, as an assignment, when the girls were at a 6 week summer program at the Berklee School of Music in Boston. Dany was feeling very homesick, and the song, When I'm Alone, was the result. This video is how I accidentally 'found' The Warning. These Three young ladies have it all. They have their own sound, they all sing, amazing talent, tremendous stage presence and connection, tremendous vocals, and are stunning to look at.
Seems like every song you listen to is better than the other one and even the same one you listen to over and over, it gets better.
The main ingredient for their recipe has been great family values. They are great young ladies with very modest ideals who don't cater to cussing, drugs, smoking and although 2 of them are old enough to drink, they prefer juice when they go out to party.

They famously turned down offers from Disney, Simon Cowell and various record labels because they refused to let anybody change their music or image, so they went the indie route and were financially supported by their fanbase (TWA) using crowd-funding drives and Patreon. That support allowed their dad to become a full-time manager, and helped pay for album-related expenses. They really didn't become self-reliant until their 2022 tours (with 101 stops) because initially they were too young for a big tour, and then they couldn't tour because of the pandemic.

At which point they signed (duh-duh-DOH (oh know they signed?)) with Lava Records after 7 months of negotiations. Lava, it would seem, know how to let money print itself.

    • @glenallencox966
      @glenallencox966 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

@@Biomirthand the reason those negotiations took such a record length of time was the fact that the girls refused to relinquish creative control and ownership of both their music and their image. The other major point of contention during the negotiations was the fact that Lava wanted them to end their Patreon page, to which the girls flat out said no! In the end Lava records conceded to the girls demands. Another thing that Lava found quite unique was the fact that the girls literally read and had final approval (with the help of their Dad, Rudy and lawyers) of every aspect of the contract. The process of signing an act usually takes only 3 to 6 weeks at the most and always involves the bands manager and lawyers, never the musician themselves.
      LONG LIVE THE VILLARREAL SISTERS!

    • @Biomirth
      @Biomirth 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@glenallencox966 I've heard them say that and I have no reason to doubt that that is true, but we're not actually privy to the negotiations and there would be plenty of reasons that a label wouldn't want to make public, nor a band. That is why I said it like I did. The fact is, it took 7 months, and everyone involved seems very pleased indeed.
I think it's a bit unfair to insuinuate that Lava wanted to have some sort of creative control when we don't know exactly what was said. Nobody has said anything specific about who said what. I would assume that is for good reason. Maybe this seems picayune to point out but I think it's worth it: There are lots of arrangements in life where the parties involved cannot speak for themselves for one reason or another. When there's no need to do it for them, don't, IMO.

Later that year (Ale was still 12 years old) The Warning opened for Def Leppard in Mexico City. As Pau tells the story, Def Leppard's manager saw how young they were and thought that they were just going to pretend to play to a backing track, or something. After the show Def Leppard was so impressed that they invited them on to their next show in Guadalajara and came out to the stage to watch them.

I love this presentation. It showed the band on their way to realizing their dreams. If you haven't seen the music video of the song, *21st Century Blood,* or their performances of the album from The Dakota Bar in 2018, they're worth watching.
Of course, as they were promoting *21st Century Blood,* their first full crowd-funded album that came out in March of 2017, they were conceiving and writing their second - an epic double album, *Queen of the Murder Scene.* It would become a "rock novel," a story in four parts of three songs each, plus the opening prologue.
QOTMS was their second crowd-funded album. Few record companies I know of would have touched that project. It was wildly ambitious, creative, dark, tragic, and brilliant. The modern "corporate record machine" just doesn't understand that. But The Warning pulled it off in spades! If you'll listen to it in its entirety, you'll understand its greatness. Their video of the November, 2018, Live at Lunario concert is the debut of the album. It's raw, dark, gritty, emotional, shocking, and amazing. Although they play better, later, the fact that they could manifest such a project AT ALL at such young ages is mind-blowing. It's the genius that results from hard work, great parenting, great management, and a huge group of fans and supporters who believe in them.

all three of these songs are off the 2017 album "XXI Century Blood", an album about how they see the world and things they want to change in it...
i don't recall seeing anything from DPA/TW about what inspired *Unmendable* ... some of us think it had to do with their negotiations with numerous labels that they turned down...
*When I'm Alone* is Dany's song written when they were at Berklee Music College in 2015... she wrote it while very homesick and needing a song to turn in for a class assignment... Pau and Ale joining with only their instruments is very fitting for the feelings the song is conveying...
*Survive* is obviously about a relationship going/gone bad... some think of a boy/girl relationship but it could be about any relationship... especially a relationship where partyA is telling partyB that partyB won't make it without partyA in their lives... to me, this sounds very much like it was inspired from the failed negotiations with those labels "that wanted to change them for the wrong reasons"... i can see those label people trying to get them to sign by trying to scare them with words like that...

The girls have stated their influence from Pink Floyd,Queen , Rush , which shows how their songs have a progressive element or a rock arena hooks , at the same time creating a heavy sound while being a 3 piece band.

Thanks for the reaction! Now on to their next album Queen Of The Murder Scene played “live” at Lunario CDMX, where they premiered it in 2018!! This a concept album consisting of 13 songs that tells a story of a young girl who goes from unrequited love, to murder, and eventually madness thru various steps before getting to the last song. A masterpiece considering their ages when written!!!🔥👏⚡️

The album in between XXI Century Blood and Error is Queen of the Murder Scene, a brilliant and epic Rock Novel Concept Album about a girl who becomes obsessed with someone leading to stalking kidnap and murder and her own journey into psychosis. Each song tells part of the story and I recommend watching the Lunario CDMX concert footage beginning with Dust to Dust which is the prologue. The story is told from within the perspective of the girls own mind so you are seeing things through her eyes and what she is feeling. Written when these girls were barely into their teens it is a masterpiece of rock, ballads, cheerleader punk and other genres mixed in. Listening to the album in track order is best although each song works well as a standalone, but to get the whole story it is best to follow it in order. Each song from the Lunario CDMX is available on The Warning youtube channel as a single video or you can watch the entire concert which has the whole album interspersed with songs from XXICB in between each chapter.
You should also check out their original music video for their song XXI Century Blood it is amazing how clued up they are to the problems within their own generation.

Then, between XXI Century Blood, and Error, is the iconic Queen of the Murder Scene concept album. The story is masterfully told in concert live at The Lunario CDMX 2018.

They were definitely years beyond their age then. Still are. Today's music from them is soo refined and pure. They never miss a beat. I hear the 80s and 90s A LOT in them. And you are correct in that they listened to a ton of classic rock which is what the family listened to. Then the video game Rock Band came along and gave them a taste and it was nothing but forward since then. I have heard some other modern rock bands and they are good but the classic sound these gals produce produce is AMAZING and for me, that is their hook. We had the family together for game night, including my ex and I had rock playing in the background. Then The Warning came on and within seconds I saw my ex's head pop up and she said "who is that?". She thought I found some great unknown band from our era. Even with the classic rock background, they have the uncanny ability of making it sound new and fresh and their writing is off the chain good. By the way, you mentioned about the record companies wanting them to have a hook all the time. imo each of their tracks has a hook.

    Welcome to The Warning Army.
This performance is the one that got me recruited to this amazing sonic adventure.
The charming sisters sound like a mix of Boston, early GooGooDolls with a kick of post pop and post grunge elements which make them sound unique and yet beautifully familiar.
They came. They rocked. They conquered.

About their sound being different back then. It was 7 years ago now. The girls were good back then, but they have learned a lot more along the way. They never stop learning and trying new things. Also their equipment has changed a bit. Ale now has the 5 string Spector bass that adds so much dimension to the bass sound. Dany now has lighter PRS guitars that are a lot noisier than that Les Paul she played here.
And their voices have matured so much. Dany was a good singer here. Now she is amazing, and so much stage presence. The harmonies they sing now are heavenly.
The album in between is Queen of the Murder Scene.
A concept album about an obsession that turn into murder and death.
What 14 year old wouldn't want to write something like that. :)
