Sadly I have put less than 200 miles on my Gorgeous Red S4 in 3 years. That's why I come to James channel and get excited everytime we go for a ride.

More rides coming once it cools off here in the Austin area. Need to do some work on SuperBlu and '92 GTS and then we will have some REAL FUN! I also need to invest in better camera mounts.

Love the 928. 84 is a great looking year of the 928.
My buddy has a 85 928 with a fuel injected LS 6.0 and automatic.
It’s 434 rwhp . Very nicely done and quiet until you get on it. Has Vintage AC that will keep you very cool. Very cool car with the muscle to back up the great looks of the 928.

Frank, YES!! Enjoy my friend! Keep coming back to the channel for more. There is still plenty of 928 content to come! I have been to Rockwall, but not on any of the roads other than the highway. My uncle used to live out there too.

Next time you are out this way i can introduce you to some of them. Must be good roads ...Bob Norwood uses them. Can show you pic of our cars side by side at the gas station with the sonic off 205. Countryside up and down hill sweepers just great roads to drive on...

James, you are the first person I've heard (or read) who mentioned the sweepers being the 928's favourite road. Absolutely true as anyone who owns or has driven one will say. They are indeed like they are on rails, like you are sitting in a rollercoaster cart at a carnival minus the open air velocity. It is extremely satisfying pulling the car through a sweeper, these things just don't roll!
Great video as always, thanks for sharing with us!

They are some of the most fantastic cars on the open road! Tight twisty stuff is not where they shine, but they are not bad there...but get them out on an open road and they are perfection!

@@farginicehole513 I checked the back records and it was an '86. Before the right off I had purchased a 1990 S4 with 70k on the clock, that was maybe 15 years ago. I had a good run until the mileage got to around 165k.
I hit a small rock at speed which I could not avoid and it cracked the sump. That was pre-covid. I hummed and hahed about it but then decided to get it fixed. Sadly I put it in the hands of my mate a mechanic who said he knew what he was doing but he didnt really, turned out to be engine out job ( I still question that?}. He made a mess of it and then I took it somewhere else and they have been absolutely fantastic. However the short story is that its been in and out of the garage ever since and I have spent thousands and have literally overhauled pretty much everything except the block which apparently is bullet proof. Its in the garage as we speak possibly on the last thing which is overhauling the PSD. In retrospect I should have dumped it, even with a cracked sump I would have got 8-10K USD for it. Remember these are old cars and no matter how well you look after it pretty much everything will pack up sooner or later. But I have to admit, especially with the fully rebuilt auto-trans its actually now a fantastic car to drive and way more fun and guttural than any modern car (I also own a 2018 Honda Civic Type R )

Hi James, your ruby red S2 looks very nice with patina. In the mid 90s I could persuade my father to buy an 928 over a Maserati Biturbo😁. 911s had my interest but were by then too tiny/not dramatic.
Here in the Netherlands we testdrove some examples and we were quite astonished about the power difference between the US 230hp and 310 EU versions. Finally he bought an eu 84 S2 4spd auto in Platinum metallic with ruby leather interior. As a 17yr old highschoolboy I was over the moon with his purchase. So many good (Autobahn)memories! The 928 is for me still the car to own one day🙏

@@pcar928fan It's good to see some more 928 content and it's a bonus when it's this good. I've loved the 928 since I was a kid playing Chase H.Q. in the arcades and always remember how awesome they looked. I challenge anyone to find a better looking door shape. Just a quick question, are there any model years to avoid when buying one? I like the look of the older 16 valve ones, the have better tail lights and wheels IMO. I know lots about the air cooled world, but don't have much experience with these beauties. Cheers.

It's been said that the 928 was designed to replace the 911. Surprisingly most 928s were equipped with the automatic rather than the 5 speed. The 5 speed makes all the difference, giving the driver access to the power and torque of the V8. A much more engaging experience.

    • @pcar928fan
      @pcar928fan  ปีที่แล้ว

Well about 30% of all 928 had the manual transmission and for the ‘78 model year almost 90% had the manual, so it was actually quite a few that had them. I suspect it is a different experience than the automatic. Much more hands on and engaging.

I absolutely love it! There is a strip down the middle of each car that is not carpeted in case of oil or trans fluid leaks, but I should probably just go ahead and carpet that. It is easy enough to pull up a carpet square, clean up and replace.

I liked your video, though can you do a long cruise down to Miami and record from start to finish, want to see how it handles on a long haul and long cruise videos are usually better, also if you're using a GoPro, there is a head mounted hat you can use so it gives the viewer a POV view directly behind the steering wheel. Btw fun fact, Steve Jobs owned a 928, he stated the minimalist design helped him design the original Macintosh, I have the launch of the original mac on my channel 'Apple Vs Amiga: The Launch Of Two Companies' to check out/

A cruise to Miami would be a very long drive! LOL! That would be a hell of a video! One of my 928 lives in Miami. My '94 928 GTS is with a collector in that area. If you go to Porsche events keep an eye out for a Grand Prix White '94 GTS with a Classic grey interior with several custom interior parts that give the car a bespoke look and feel. That is my baby! It was my 2nd 928 and I owned it from 1997 till 2016. I miss it every day! Thanks for watching!
