@@loucostabile The thing about these MOPARS from the 50s and 60s was that the build quality was poor. Plus like most cars of this era they rusted quickly. These beautiful cars are in MUCH better condition when restored. This Desoto is Awesome. I really like the colors on these 50's cars. Today's cars seem to be ..white, black, gray, silver & tan )-: with a few red and blue tossed in. Thanks again for posting Lou!

What a Beautiful Automobile The 1959 Chrysler Corporation's DeSoto Adventurer was! it Definitely stands the test of time! I love that Awesome Chrome Dashboard with The Push Button Torque flite Automatic Transmission and The Advance Red Neon Speedometer! Chrysler was Always ahead of the other Foreign and Domestic AutoMakers throughout the world! They just never got the True Positive Attention or Accolades for their Advanced Design and Technology! But this Chrysler DeSoto is Definitely an Excellent Example of Chrysler Corporation's Attention to Quality and Detail and Craftsmanship! I love this 1959 DeSoto Adventurer it Manufactured the year I was Born! 1959 was a Great year For Gibson Les Paul's and Chrysler's DeSoto Adventurer!

I bet that DeSoto had torsion bar front suspension. That DeSoto = Class! That gentleman was very fortunate to find this beautiful relic from the past. I loved that engine bay. Back then a person could actually service their own car such as adjusting the fuel mix on the carb's, changing out the spark plugs, setting the timing and dwell on the distributer and so on. Everything on those cars were analog controlled relay logic, as opposed to todays cars that are operated with a temperamental digital computer.

Those "ribbon" speedometers were all the rage in the later 50s...my dad owned a 1959, red Buick LeSabre convertible...it also had the ribbon speedo, plus that silly warning buzzer, that you could set at a certain speed, to remind you if you were speeding!...1959 was pretty much the pinnacle for swooping, huge fins...by the early 60s, those had diminished considerably...Style was so important, at that time...safety?--not so much!

Spectacular car from bumper to bumper. I remember in the '70's, when the '57 Bel Air, '55 Ford Crown Vic, and all the other classic iconic models were the only '50's models people really valued. I would see these in books and didn't understand why there seemed to be no interest, or very little. I knew their day would come. Now they surpass the '57 Bel Air and '55 Crown Vic in value!

That's about how it was. A co-worker bought a 1960 Chrysler 2 dr HT in 1978 for $100. Not a single person even called about it except him. The engine was stuck but he got it unstuck mostly using Marvel Mystery Oil and got it started, changed the transmission fluids and filter, coolant (needed a radiator rod-out but not a core) and drove it as is for over a year. About the only thing you could hear was the tires on the road.

Great to see Bruce and his fabulous ‘59 - the final year of the Adventurers’ standard issue inline Carter dual quads. Rams were optional for ‘60, and after a short production run of ‘61s with the 2-barrel 361 motor, the DeSoto marque was no more.

Most all DeSotos, 1957 and newer, were fitted with Chrysler’s cast iron A-488 3-speed TorqueFlite trans. The 2-speed PowerFlite was available in only the Firesweeps that rolled off the Dodge assembly line. Firesweeps could also be ordered with TorqueFlites. And some DeSotos were ordered with 3-speed manuals.

@@loucostabile I've wondered so many times why DeSoto disappeared. I guess I think it's because the market segment disappeared within Mopar. The Dodge top-line models crept closer and of course then DeSoto had its Dodge-based lower line, then also the Windsor and DeSoto got closer on the upper end. What do you think, Lou? Obviously it had nothing to do with the physical car itself...

Thanks, Lou, for another sentimental journey. Although this one is a sad (No, NOT a Saab 😉) story. In early 1960, parents had a chance to buy a 59 ADVENTURER exactly like this. I still have photos I took while they test drove it. Being just short of my driver's license, I desperately wanted that car to become part of the family. But they passed it up. But at least we still had our 55 Firedome. Then the local DeSoto dealer offered his last 61 DeSoto at a great deal. Once again they passed, only to trade the Firedome (six months later) for a 62 Plymouth Belvedere which to me was one of the ugliest cars ever built and a definite step down! It's Halloween 🎃, so I guess you could say I am still haunted 👻 by that American Horror Story.

Too bad DeSoto in the end got squeezed out between Dodge and Chrysler. The 58 recession had a huge impact hurting these mid-priced cars. Even though DeSoto was fading in sales, they still were offering some pretty great cars (this car being a fantastic example of that). Thanks to the owner and Lou.
