We used to call these 1956-59 DeSoto grand touring sports cruisers as the "Golden Adventurer" because they used gold paint and accents with either white, beige, or black color schemes. I have loved these amazingly awesome Exner cars since when I was a boy when they were new. I almost bought one of these in 1965, in Long Beach, Calif. when I had my 1957 Plymouth Belvedere 2-door hardtop.
Back in 1975-ish a dentist had one of these sitting in his yard and I was ready to buy it, even though the manifold for the two four-barrels was missing. Last minute, he decided to save it for his son, who might have interest in it one day. Never saw it again. Too bad. Thanks for the memories.
This was a ver nice video I have a 57 adventure convertable which I bought in January of 1960. For 675.00 out the door. It is in it own garage space and al there. It was my first love and still is
I had the good fortune to ride in a 1957 DeSoto Fireflite in "63, when my dad was considering buying one used. I SURE WISH HE HAD...PROBABLY THE BEST CAR I EVER RODE IN...LIKE FLYING!
My first car 1965 4 door for $100 .......1 owner and I loved it , would wake up the first night and look out the window as I was worried someone would still it . I think the 4 doors kept everyone away
Not only a piece of American automotive history, this 1957 Desoto is a rolling work of art, a sculpture that points to a bright space age future, suggesting forward motion even when parked. All this and it was designed for daily driving and cross country hauling. Assuming the owner can afford to supply large quantities of fuel, it is The American Dream Machine.
That's the way it was back then. As big as that car was there was very little leg room in the back seat. My 2008 Prius has way more room in back. Go figure....
Ah, marriage...have to hide the things you like and want to do, and when pressed, your wife can't even be gracious enough to share your passions...just a patronizing "well, it's...interesting." Bachelorhood, please!

Thank you, Chuck, for going back to the vault. This DeSoto is a stunning car.

Gorgeous. The '55 Thunderbird looks like a stubbed big toe by comparison.
👍👌👍
