Ok, so just so everyone knows, there WAS a hitbox glitch where looking down caused the actual hitbox to look down but the character model stayed the same, looking forward. It was removed pretty early.
I know everything here but still love watching it. Also one nice side- effect of these videos is that people realise mercy isn’t ‘lol press right click’ heal bot but a complex and nuanced hero. I just wish people would realise the same is true for moira
As a support player mainly playing Ana, Zen and Bap I've always brushed off Mercy as being "an easy healer for new players", and boy couldn't I have been more wrong. So today I actually started getting into learning Mercy, getting all the tips and tricks down. All I can say is that your channel is a pure goldmine of educational content! Mercy might be an easy hero to start off as when you don't really know what you're doing, but actually mastering playing her takes more than most heroes. To all Mercy players I've complained about, I'm so sorry!
@@a-aronander-son5861 being a good mercy requires amazing game sense to be able to carry, most of the time she is extremely hard to climb with in solo queue as she is mainly team dependent. With a good team it’s hard to do a bad job as mercy unless you’re out of position :)
@@jasmineboomer2596 I am well aware as to what is required to play her, I have been a support main for 3 years and Mercy is always bouncing between 1st and 2nd most played heroes. But she is still easy to play. She is the easiest support due to having a lock on beam and a get away ability. But to the point; you like everyone else here is conflating her skill floor/ceiling and ease of use. Lots of potential, but still easy to play.
@@a-aronander-son5861 I mean, I did state that Mercy was an easy hero to pick up and get a feel for the game with when you're not really knowing what you're doing. However, being able to poistion well, and learn all almost frame perfect tricks like the super jump takes a lot of time and effort to get consistent at. I've been a support player ever since Ana came out as a hero back in 2016, and I am comfortable with saying that Mercy is the hero I'm struggling with the most right now.
Like were you wrong that she was easy to play for new players or not? Trust me; it will not take long to be consistent. Learning to consistently hit shots with Ana or Bap is much harder than SJ ever will be. Even with a higher skill ceiling she is still easy to play.

Dang, I've been doing that "look at the floor to hide your head" for months now to try and rez in front of a crappy hitscan enemy. Sometimes I get away with it anyway but it sucks I lived with that for so long lol

I really appreciate your inclusion of the caveat on the “unnecessary Rez” about whether your team will notice and is willing to wait before pushing. It sucks to go into a fight without Rez available, but sometimes it’s the only way to start a fight as 6, even when your spawn is close!

As someone who’s dealt with nothing but pocket healers who heal their two stack and Mercy’s who Rez when the team is dying, I will always say prioritize heals over your Rez. It’s infinitely more valuable to have confident allies with close to full health to Rez than to Rez when everyone is reaching 0 at a rapid pace.
not always. think about it like this. your team is stalling a point -- let's use Hanamura point b, and you're on defense. your Genji is double jumping trying to stall but he's 10hp and your Mei has already used cryo and wall. your second support and both tanks just died. you don't heal your dps in this situation because they will die very soon and so will you. in this case, it's better to res your wrecking ball so he can spin to win long enough for everyone else to respawn and come back to point. your job as a support is not to outheal all damage. the heroes are not designed to do that. healing is only one of the jobs of a support. a Mercy who does nothing but heal is a bad Mercy, just as a Lucio who stays on healing the whole time is a bad Lucio or a Bap who does nothing but dps is a bad Bap. there are a lot of times when healing is the wrong play. there are a lot of times when healing is feeding. just because Mercy is not healing you doesn't mean she's not doing her job.
I tend to rank priority of rez with Tank>Healer>DPS. Tanks are annoying to kill when pocketed and sometimes, the time taken for them to kill a tank+mercy would've equaled the time taken for the other dead members to rush in. Very effective in King of the Hill maps and you're trying to stall for more time. But maybe that wont work on high ranks ^w^"

Nice video Niandra! I often times find myself thinking "oh god why did I res that" during my comp matches and this definitely gives insight into why even successful resurrects aren't always good. I'm at pretty low rank, so I get pretty much free range with res because most players can't react fast enough to stop it (they can kill me perfectly fine after the fact however, am working on that one). I didn't realize that many resurrects would pad your stats for placements. I got placed into high gold with my very first comp season and then immediately fell like 1,400 SR. (Twas a sad series of events.)
I am burning out with OW too. I love the game but I am I have been playing less. I wish I could find the passion for gaming I had a while back. Trying out different games but I haven't found THE one yet. So hard to switch to a new game once you have played it so much and for so long.
Ok i was just rewatching this video to better my rez's but WHAT IS THAT 6:40 How did she rez, and it get canceled but the cooldown resets even thought for a split second you can see the cooldown start!?!?
I hate the resurrection ability but I still get it off a lot it's just way too easy for someone else to die while you rez so a lot of time i have to just keep healing. Also it slows Mercy down a lot and I feel like her gimmick is moving a lot lol
I play more team deathmatch then I do QP/comp, and I've noticed that you find a lot of mercy's in that mode are great at healing and repositioning to avoid dying, but they go for the most batshit ridiculously stupid rezzes ive ever seen. I think they just get hyper-aware of how it takes a point away from the enemy and think all their value comes from it. That's not true at all- your healing is way more important than rezzes in that mode. Remember if you die during the rez, your team is way worse off than they were before, even if the rez completing, since you as a support are more important than any dps.
"[2nd support rez case] The team will be left with no healing once you start rezzing" - funny how the clip you picked for it is actually for the special case where it's not TECHNICALLY true, what with the team having a Soldier and him dropping down his TEAM HEAL UP HERE right then
Hey Niandra I wanna say tysm for all these specific guides. I used to not like playing mercy back with mass res, i also healbotted back then 😅. Then with the rework she was a must pick and no one else ever wanted to play her so I was forced to play her, I still heal botted alot but ur damage boost focus got me to go from originally about 400 damage amp in 10 mins to about 2k damage amp every 8 mins now 🤯. I had one match with 4000 dmg amped and Im genuinely enjoying mercy compared to the moth meta so ty for making this character more fun for me 😇
You made me love playing mercy again. I got frustrated for a period of time because I felt like I wasn't getting any value, but after watching your videos and changing how I play, I have so much fun playing her and feel like I'm getting the max amount of value I can in both heals and damage boost!

i really loved this one! i started maining mercy in 2019 and still maining her to this day, and thanks to you and a couple other mercy players who give tips ive climbed really far! i loved this one a lot because res is a tough subject and learning when to res and other things is kind of tricky. but this helped so much! thanks niandra 😇
Once I got potg as mercy because my entire team was about to die and the one carry was dead so I popped my ult (by then there was no way I'd save the team) so in true bronze fashion I rezed the junkrat carry because the enemy team forgot I exist (I was literally right behind them) it was essentially me and this junkrat against at least 4 enemies and we were able to prevent them from capping the point

At 5:50 Are we sure about the switching and having rezz come back? I thought something like that didn't work...Maybe it was Lamp? There's something where you can swap and it doesn't restart the cooldown.
@@phredbookley183 I think it's because Bap's lamp can affect more than one teammate, you know? when your team is stalling you could just stand near spawn, throw lamp to save everyone, switch in less than two seconds, throw another lamp, etc. whereas res is just one person and you can't do it from a significant distance unlike Bap who can just yeet the lamp
Hey Niandra! I’ve been using your tips a lot and you were the one that actually taught me super jump which I find very useful. I’ve gotten much better with my own gameplay however I always struggle with call outs. Is there any chance you could create a video or just a few tips on what you should communicate with your team? It would help out a lot because when focusing I tend to just go silent so id love to get into the habit of giving useful call outs. I love your videos and find them very interesting! ❤️❤️

Looking down may not reduce the hitbox, but it does reduce the area the enemy can see to hit, so it can be useful to a point.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve accidentally rezzed when I didn’t mean to because I was holding R2 for glide (console player).
That spinning move works like 99.8% when you should ress in the open field and enemy has widow/hanzo loll

It's Bap's lamp that doesn't reset, while Rez does!

@@phredbookley183 I think it's because Bap's lamp can affect more than one teammate, you know? when your team is stalling you could just stand near spawn, throw lamp to save everyone, switch in less than two seconds, throw another lamp, etc. whereas res is just one person and you can't do it from a significant distance unlike Bap who can just yeet the lamp

Hey Niandra! I’ve been using your tips a lot and you were the one that actually taught me super jump which I find very useful. I’ve gotten much better with my own gameplay however I always struggle with call outs. Is there any chance you could create a video or just a few tips on what you should communicate with your team? It would help out a lot because when focusing I tend to just go silent so id love to get into the habit of giving useful call outs. I love your videos and find them very interesting! ❤️❤️
they actually do have a video about this! it's called "Mic Usage as Mercy - Why She's A Great Shotcaller (plus tips!)"- its a little old (2019), but imo the info in it is still very much relevant
