  • Amala Ekpunobi is a podcaster and influencer for PragerU. Amala was once a student organizer for the left, which makes sense as she was raised in a far-left household. As stated in her bio, it was unanswered questions-and a search for the truth-that led her to a complete ideological transformation. Intelligently sharing her new conservative values online, Amala became a viral social media sensation. Now the host of PragerU’s show “Unapologetic with Amala,” she inspires millions of young people every day to discover the truth, defend their values, and lead better lives.

I am 28 and genuinely so impressed by how mature and articulate she is for a 22 yr old. At that age I was fresh out of college and just trying to figure out what the hell I was doing. If only I was as grounded as she is.

I wish I had the courage to develop independent thought and to share my ideas as unapologetically as she does, at the age of 22. I was so aimless, without a sense of purpose, and sometimes spineless at that age. She’s clearly very smart, and we’re blessed to have voices of reason like hers. Thanks to the both of you for sharing this is conversation with us.

What I love the most is her attitude of not wanting to argue, she wants to have a conversation. I would love to talk to her and get her opinion on lots of things. She is a special person and rare, especially her maturity at her age.

I had a similar experience, when I was a teenager I was one of the first kids openly bisexual, I literally would get jumped for my sexuality so it took a lot of guts to do that. So of course you could assume that I went on to fight for gay rights, after us attaining a certain amount of marriage rights, there was this weird wave of biphobic bigotry coming from within the LGBT, people I knew and stood by that were fully gay or lesbian we're now coming at me with hostility for just being bi. Saying that we're not really gay? That opened my eyes that a lot of people on the left, if not a majority of them only want power, and it turned me off from being a leftist. After a couple years of political homelessness I was swayed with the argument that a lot of conservatives make 'we don't hate you, even if it's against my religion only God can judge, we just want this stuff away from our schools and our workplaces because they have no place being there' which is something I resonated with a lot. I believe when you go to work your personal life should stay at the door, including sexuality, and since kids aren't mentally developed enough to even handle sexuality, they shouldn't be exposed to it.
I considered myself right-leaning for a while but this most recent anti-gay and I mean gay, I don't mean anti-lgbt, turned me off from being on the right. It went from 'live your life but protect the vulnerable and have a decent amount of separation and privacy' to 'I'm not going to accept you no matter what, this is why we should have never given you rights' and other rage filled outburst not targeting only the LGBT, but at the gay population I'm general.
I always have been somewhat of an independent thinker even when I'm in a 'group', it's what allowed me to have the self-reflection as early as I did when it came to being a leftist, but the insidious anti tolerant view of both the right and left reinforced that, it showed me that there's no point in being a leftist or rightist, football politics benefit no one but the people at the top that want to actually take those rights from you.
But instead of being politically homeless I've realized what I am, a free thinker that won't let my tribal inclinations rule me.
It gets lonely a little bit because most people want to choose a side and go to war in today's day and age, but it makes me feel better that I'm actually figuring out what I want, what I believe, and advocating for what I truly feel.
It's given me the confidence to stand up for myself and others no matter what or how many I'm facing, and I wouldn't trade that just to have a political 'home'.

Out of curiosity, how do you feel about Gabbard's stance on foreign policy? She opposes regime change wars, but she's very supportive of drone strikes in the Middle East and has supported foreign dictators and such. She also cited Democrats being warhawks as her reason for leaving the Democratic Party, but she didn't seem to acknowledge that the GOP is way more hawkish

She said herself that she believed it even when her own life had such privilege. It’s not about proof, it’s a mind virus that affects how they think. Unless something breaks open their hearts, they just literally cannot see the truth.

She probably dismisses it as survivorship bias and/or assigns it to the fact that Amala is half-white in the end, and thus apparently has more "privilege". People believe what they want to believe in the end.
