    Considering the W10 produces at least 900 horsepower, all of which goes to the rear wheels, the fact that it stayed so close to the all wheel drive WRC car off the line in the wet is really impressive.

      @@Reslivo that's a W10 with W12 livery. You can see the clear difference on the side pods and intakes. Plus you can see the floor. This is pretty much the car Racing Point used last year

    1:07 it's nuts how there's hardly a drop of water on the helmet or the visor given the amount of spray around the car. Really shows how strong the aero is to carry the water with the air away from the driver.

      you can drive a cabrio on the autobahn while its raining without the inside getting wet if you're fast enough too

    This literally happens every single time they race F1 against WRC or Rally Cross.
    Wet or dry the WRC eats their soul coming off the line but once the F1 starts putting down the power it's over.

      I think a Rallycross car with twice the power of a WRC car would give the F1 car a bit more of a race tbf, I remember quotes flying round in the early 2000's that those Rally cross cars where as quick doing a 200m sprint as an F1 car.

      @@Slash1066 except all the corners are extremely tight hairpins. (Think Mirabeau and the Hotel Hairpin.) The WRC car would utterly wipe the floor with F1 given how hard it is for such long wheelbase cars to get around those corners.

    i've seen the F1 cars once in singapore 2017, they looked absolutely insane!! wayyyy more awesome than just looking at it on tv. i hope i can see the 2022 cars in person next year, just gotta pray they will race in singapore again

      Watching a F1 car live is amazing, super aggressive, they beat up the environment around them just like a helicopter.
      TV doesn't do the brutality of F1 any justice.

      @@utuberme1 its awesome indeed. But the spray generated by this makes racing i the wet almost impossible nowadays. They are currently trying to figure out a solution to reduce the spray. The race in Suzuka was cut short and the infamous GP at SPA did not really happen because of the intense spray in heavy weather conditions.

      Same thing would happen, just like 1 second later. That Mercedes has 1000 HP. As soon as it can get traction, it is over against just about anything on four wheels (maybe an LMP1 car could outrun it or a top fuel NHRA dragster).

    That's the W10 from 2019 (with the classic sidepods) isn't it? Another very dominant car from Mercedes-AMG. It was the first car to date which managed to start a season with 5 consecutive 1-2 finishes. Basically, the only rival the W10 had that year was Ferrari with its Saturn V rocket-engine.

      In both instances the WRC would win by a mile. Much much more mechanical grip and accelerates way faster. Even a Tesla model S plaid would have that formula E for breakfast

      @@martin3288 don't be so sure about that. The plaid is surprisingly capable. You probably missed that a bonestock Plaid smashed the GT-record on the Nordschleife Nürburgring right? it's heavier and bigger but it has waaaaay bigger tires, much more torque and horsepower and brakecalipers that make you collect your teeth from the dash after smashing your face in to the steering wheel. Anyway, what I really wanna say is that formula e-cars are artificially downregulated nightmares that could easily be much much better. They are electrified shoppingcarts with useless aero bolted on them for show.

    That WRC ultra hot hatch surprised me, quite honestly. Knew it'd be quickest off the line due to AWD, but it actually wasn't that far behind the F1 car by the end. The 2017-spec WRC cars are actually insane (the fastest WRC cars of all time by far) and will go down in legend, same as Group B - especially now that the era is officially over. They are some of the most outrageous motor-sport cars ever built. Truly, the 2017-2021 era of WRC has been pure bliss as a spectator. So sad it's over.

      To be fair it was in the wet which benefits WRC car. In the dry the f1 car would have been miles away and a close battle between FE and WRC

      I've heard both up close, F1 cars, even these more sanitised hybrid era cars are way louder than WRC. But I much prefer the sound of WRC.

      @@Matthew-ll9ke yes I have, and yes it's a full on spine tingling sound. Still not as loud as an F1 car doing the same thing. You don't hear an F1 car, the sound bypasses your ears and you feel it in your whole skeleton. Nothing prepares you for the asualt on your senses. It is Incredible.

    I remember when Red Bull brought their f1 car to cornell university. I had no idea how small you have to be to drive those. My fat leg wouldn’t fit in it. But respect to those that get play with them.

    Man that amount of dirty air the F1 downforce creates, no wonder passing is so hard -- the whole wake is a giant vortex storm! The rally car had next to nothing on dirty air but that AWD launch was mental. It's all those open wheels mostly. The formula E car hardly makes any dirty air at all.

      I think the wrc (and certainly a rallycross car) would give the f1 car run for its money around a whole wet lap - because f1 cars are not good on wet corners and they couldn't accelerate hard out of the corners either - that's where the rally car would have the advantage. So if a track/lap was very twisty the rally car could win, but on a track with long straights the f1 car would win. What this video shows more than anything, is how slow the formula E car is

      @@princeemathew It's the w10 with a w12 livery - look at the sidepod inlets :-) The only w11 in existence, as far as i know, is the one from the silverstone last year, which finished on 3 wheels.

      @@stevenjones1009 Wehrlein hasn't been the Mercedes reserve for years, he's with Porsche in Formula E these days. Their reserves are Vandoorne and De Vries (plus Russell before his promotion).
      That being said, it's probably one of either Gutierrez or Davidson, the test/sim drivers, behind the wheel in this video

    "The Stig" in the Mercedes would be either Esteban Gutierrez or Anthony Davidson - those guys get all the fun with those cars once the season is done.
    If you haven't seen it - look for Davidson doing the lap of light on the Mercedes channel.... EPIC

      @@ow8374 you could be right - this either explains why Lewis wasn't part of the "secret santa" everyone hates him for missing OR the other reason is that the Mercedes has been used in a lot of promotional film and footage this last month and there wasn't time to repaint the numbers....
      My money is still on Davidson or Gutierrez though.

    That was a pretty awesome race even though it was on the wettest track I've seen! I reckon on a dry track the F1 car would have caught up sooner and maybe the Formula E would have fared better

      Don’t think so, Formula cars are sluggish under 100k’s. On a dry track the WRC would have pulled a lager gap on slicks and the F1 and FE cars would have been closer for the first few meters.

      @@alex_inside Sluggish is not a word anyone uses to describe a F1 car. Sure the AWD rally car would have the edge off the line but considering it lost even in the wet I think the F1 car would have had a larger gap in the dry. Are the Formula E car's tires too skinny for any grip in the wet?

    The most impressive thing about this is how this isn't even the same car they used on race weekend, it's a demo car (a car that is specifically designed by teams to be slower than the original and is usually used for off-track demonstration/performance)

    During the Mercedes dominant years, I watched mainly because of the engineering wonders F1 cars are. Attending at the Monza 2021 GP, I was most impressed by the braking power. Going from 340 kph to 50 kph in about 150 meters, is IN-SANE.

      Not quite. 2 years old F1 car and the FE car is already phased out. Dunno about wrc so maybe that's current...

      its not so different F1 cars always look slow compared to other racers until they hit like 40-50 mph and then the downforce kicks in and they just vanish. in the dry the FE car might be closer to WRC of the start though

      @@davidswanborough1769 Nothing to do with downforce, everything to do with tyre traction. Downforce during acceleration only starts playing a role after 40-50 mph, like you said. EXCEPT, at this speed almost any car will have 100% traction with racing tyre. If anything high downforce slows your acceleration down once you hit the 1/4 mark of the drag strip.

      I would think that hot slicks on an F1 car are a big advantage, but I would still bet on the WRC for the first 50 meter.

      Disagree. If that is the pinnacle of electric power, it is atrocious.
      After how much the mainstream media yaks about instant torque and how much faster electric cars are etc, here we see truly how fast they are when we compare the best with the best.

      @@darshan.sk37 Formula E is nerfed. The test was biased. Formula E has a maximum power a third of F1 and speed limitation 100 km/h less hence this whole test was just rubbish.

    these drags always go the same way the F1 car gives the other car hope and then hits like 50 mph and just shatters the rest in the second half of the race. then you got the other side of F1 have the cars all stop from 100mph the F1 car is just another level

      That's the big thing F2 drivers say after they get to drive a F1 car; it's the brakes. They're crazy. Stamp on the brakes on a F1 car, you stop like you've crashed into a wall.

    For everyone saying the only reason the wrc car took off and keep pace for a few seconds because the f1 tires are cold. They had heating blankets on them up until the start. 0:14 for reference
