When Kratos killed the sisters of fate and went back in time to when Zeus killed him, didn't it reverse everything that happen originally? By that I mean that he of course time travels to the moment Zeus kills him but BEFORE he kills the entire spartan army in Rhoades and destroys Sparta. So doesn't that mean that in that timeline the spartan army survived and kratos managed to chase zeus back to Olympus thus keeping Sparta alive as well? (and also technically keeping the "last" Spartan soldier alive too)
Exactly he destroyed Sparta after the beginning of the game and after he killed Kratos. So when Kratos returns at the end and stops Zeus it is before Zeus has attacked Sparta.
Yes but the only problem with that is that after Kratos killed Athena. He travelled back to the other timeline where the Spartans were dead. And from there he travelled back in time to rescue the titans
@@KaptainKuba That brings up another problem: How did Kratos return to the second timeline (Dead Athena) after getting the titans? This is in fact that timeline btw because of the dialogue in Zeus' speech, as well as Kratos' and Zeus' banter in which they mention Athena being dead.
@@KaptainKubabut after he rescued them, he travelled back to the timeline, where Athena is dead, and Zeus after witnessing this and being wounded, called upon his fellow Gods to unite against Kratos. So, at the start of God of War III, the events of Zeus destroying Sparta never happened. Even more, Kratos actually destroyed Sparta himself with the rest of the Greece.
I noticed that, I was thinking that maybe you guys used his OP stats (intro level armor) to play test the game. But I'm guessing now it was going to be at the beginning, care to confirm? 😂😂😂
I also noticed his health is significantly less overall as compared to the actual beginning of the game. He also has NO magic bar or any magic ability either in the lost level... Whereas he does have a magic bar and abilities in the beginning too 🤔
@@KaptainKuba What if our Kratos traveled back in time to save the Titans and the other one from Rhode went to defend Sparta ? What if they thought of a way to have 2 Kratoses ? But yeah God armour got destroyed hmm Anyway it was a Great video
So I heard him say "I will not let you destroy Sparta" years ago but didn't think anything about it afterwards. Your theory suggests that Kratos would fight Zeus again as he tries to destroy Sparta then rally the Spartans to march to Olympus whilst he brings in the titans. A magnificent find Kaptain❤🎉
This seems more likely than Kratos using time travel to go to Sparta at another time. He went straight there to rally them against Zeus before time traveling to get the titans
One thing that I find truly fascinating about cut content is the realization that what we've seen is just a fraction of the content that developers create. There are probably countless cut elements and test levels that remain hidden from view, and we can only imagine the wealth of content that may have been left out for various reasons. The Half-Life 2 leak in 2004 is a prime example of how much cut content there can be, with tons of levels getting scrapped and likely many more that would have remained unknown if it weren't for the leak! Not to mention the countless placeholder models, cut characters, and conceptual elements that never made it off the ground. Exploring the world of cut content is a never-ending Rabbit Hole!
Kuba cooked a whole meal with this theory, wow. It's a really good theory! It would even explain the fate of Sparta in GoW3, which I think Bruno Velazquez has given some answers about it on Twitter, but nothing that was elaborated as this. The only thing that kinda give us some insight about the Spartans in GoW3, it's the Blades of Exile and the Army of Sparta.
I think kratos said "i will not let you destroy sparta" reffering to the fact that he will kill zeus before that to happen. The timeline where zeus destroyed sparta no longer exists does it? Because kratos left that timeline when he went through time to get the titans
Looking at the map is just making my "I love worldbuilding" side of my brain excited! If gow 2 ever have a remake (remaster first of course), they really need to take time and just put everything into it.
Hey Kaptain, by looking your theory, it explains why Athena didn't help Kratos when he was tricked and killed by Zeus. I always wondered why Athena didn't come and try to negotiate for Kratos' life. Athena knew what was going to happen and she tried to warn Kratos as much as she can without disobeying, it seems pretty reasonable. Thanks Kap!
Dayum, I got a whole new perspective on the old games. These games till date are nothing short of art. The more you look, the deeper you will see. And its all so detailed.
This is an interesting theory. I've always thought the lost level of Sparta was deleted due to script changes. In early development, GoW2's story was completely different, and its original script, after being scrapped, ended up being used in Ghost of Sparta. This is why the levels of Atlantis and Sparta were deleted.
I never had a single doubt on how great writing is in Greek Saga of God of War. I'm right now replaying all these games on my PS3 for the Platinum trophies, and they are still such a blast to play! I'm already got Platinum in Ascension and Chains of Olympus, and I about to finish with the original 2005 game, with gonna give me my 50th Platinum trophy!
It is a good theory, but there is a small error in it, if Kratos is supposed to kill Zeus's army after traveling through time, why does he have the armor of the god of war and his swords are those of Athena? It is also interesting that Kratos does not have maximum stats, what can explain it is that he already gave his powers to the blade but he does not have it yet. 1: It's just a clip of a developer testing mechanics and the default is Kratos with armor 2: the level could have been the early idea of how Kratos originally obtained the blade of olympus and it was discarded because it was much more complex and developed so they chose to cut the content, that explains why that section and others do not appear on the map
I never knew that! Wow, that makes so much sense! Too bad Vardman wasn't aware of this when he wrote the novelization or else he could've added it back in in written form. A lost opportunity.
really awesome video really i miss these videos which still makes these gold games alive and we people still talk about it so thankyou for making videos on it.
Wow this is actually amazing theory and video well done kaptain kuba i missed the times of you finding hidden things in the games this video brought me back to the old days
I hear him saying "... let you destroy Sparta" and in context i think he says "i won't let you destroy Sparta". It seems quite obvious that he says that.
Zeus left to destroy Sparta after he'd already killed Kratos and Kratos arrives to stop himself from being killed. Kratos saying "I will not let you destroy Sparta" is him saying that he won't give Zeus a chance to leave this place. He's already gone back in time to prevent Sparta's destruction by going back in time to prevent his death
I feel like you forgot your old theory. Kratos didn't get back in time three times. He got twice: the second for the titans, and the first to kill Zeus and safe the Spartans. When they fought, they fought before zeus killed the Spartans, that's why they are alive in GOW 3 and why Kratos says he won't let him kill them. I did a little research and the soldiers behind Kratos and Zeus are having the same shields as the army of the Rhodes (the one Spartans was fighting all along). Which means they are not zeus's army. So the level must be either in the beginning somewhere between the fight with the colossus, cuz of the god armor and they cut it because it would be too repeated to fight against them too, or in the end after you defeat zeus you go to help the Spartans against the gods army in full epic rage and the armor is just for the test, but if Kratos went after defeating zeus the lines of Gaya and Kratos's actions does not match the timeline cuz Gaya gives him clear hints to come and save them and after that Kratos does exactly that in front of us. The third and most driven version is a complete different ending of the game where after you rescue the titans you go to help and gather your Spartan soldiers while The titans reach olympus. Idk it's very confusing and probably that's why they cuted it. Your theory is pretty cool and makes most sense but the shields disturb it, unless they changed the soldiers when they cuted the level🤣
I think Sparta was supposed to be the location where he fight Zeus in, that’s why they kept the line by mistake maybe. Like kratos come back in time picks up the blade and when Zeus in him are in the air they actually land in Sparta instead, but since the level was abandoned they went somewhere else.
I always thought he said that because Zeus only fully destroys Sparta after Kratos is already dead and pulled into Hades. He learns about the destruction of Sparta from the soldier he sent to defend it. So its possible Zeus destroyed it before revealing his betrayal to Kratos, or he could’ve done it immediately after killing Kratos the first time.
Hello kuba, big fan here. I have a question... why did kratos bother himself going into the timeline that he got killed and sparta was destroyed to save the spartans? isn't by going back in time and stopping Zeus sparta is already safe? Is it possible that Zeus knowing his plans went with it anyways and orderd his army to attack sparta no matter what? Saying this level was canon what did kratos do after saving sparta...did he use the power of time to bring his soldiars into his new timeline just like he did with the titans to double his spartan army against olympus? I dont know just want your opinion on it...also big love to you and the gow comunity so keep it up❤❤❤
This is an amazing theory Kuba! I don't think I can look at the ending of GoW 2 the same way again! Keep up the amazing work, and hopefully some day we'll get re-release/remake/remaster. Fingers crossed 🤞
Damn, u always bring something new in the lore and story. Never, would have guessed these details. Cory Balrog probably punching air right now, after u revealed this secrets and he wasn't sneaky enough 😂🤣
Another awesome theory that actually makes sense and adds to the story. But I would also like to add kratos going back in time to save sparta actually makes the ending of god of war 3 more tragic. Kratos destroyed the greek world along with sparta itself and his spartan soldiers that were still alive, the amount of regret kratos must have felt has to be insane. It would be awesome if this level were to be recreated, the scenery in god of war 2 is unmatched. Great vid kuba.👍

He fought the last spartan before the loom chamber. He wouldn’t have to go back to save Sparta. Going back to the moment when Zeus killed him in order to kill Zeus achieved this in and of itself. He said that he would not let him destroy Sparta because at that time he hadn’t destroyed Sparta yet. I think if they had kept the level it would have opened a plot hole because of that. Going back would not have made sense.
A very good a plausible theory. And I would so love remakes of the Greek games. Mostly God of War I and II. Not sure if III needs one since it was remastered on PS4 and can be played on PS5 via backwards compatibility.
When Kratos traveled back in time to face Zeus , wasn't Sparta still intact? From what I remember, after Zeus kills Kratos, he destroys the Spartans and then Sparta, Kratos after escaping death, learns about it from his general , then he returns in time and stops Zeus. And if Sparta isn't destroyed why does he have to go back in time to save? From what I see Sparta was already saved in god of war 2, that's just my opinion
I have noticed the supposed Spartan soldiers fighting on Olympus in the prologue of GOW III. That’s an interesting thought and I didn’t understand who fought Olympus’ sentries in the first place. But there is one question - if Kratos brought the Spartan Army to the war on Olympus, why by the time Hades was killed, no Spartan soldier was around, despite their forces being formidable enough to defeat Zeus’ army? Additionally, Kratos wouldn’t need to travel in time to save his army and Sparta, as by attacking and almost killing Zeus, he did just that and altered the timeline. Zeus couldn’t have destroyed Sparta after Kratos almost killed him because he was weaker, and Kratos attacked Mount Olympus minutes later. It’s possible that Santa Monica actually intended for Zeus’ army to betray him out of fear of the Titans and Kratos killing them all. By the time Kratos had killed Hades, Olympus’ undead army may have killed them and judging by how massive Olympus’ army was, Zeus himself may have had the ability to revive mortals as undead soldiers. Hell, I originally thought that the golden armoured soldiers were Helios’ army, but it makes sense to believe they were Zeus’ minions. Also i like how you added Thanatos’ claim that the Gods decide fate, because I think he was right, as the Fates had allowed Olympus to prevail over the Titans likely out of personal preference because the Gods could have punished them.
I would love to see what you think would've happened if Kratos didn't drain his godly powers into the Blade Of Olympus. I'm sure Kratos could've killed the Colossus Of Rhodes without the sword, and maybe Kratos launched his rebellion against Zeus a lot earlier.
Athena at the end of their conversation: "you leave me no choice" Zeus when kratos refuses servitude: "then you leave me no choice" This along with the fact that even kratos thinks it's athena going against him makes for an interesting moment
I would argue those are Athenians. Gow is very keen on explaining story through games and what better way to give us sparta vs Athens other than the goddess of Athens herself. Now since Athena is a being of higher existence having her send her soldiers to stop kratos from changing Sparta's destruction sounds like a cool sideplot and gives Athena a bigger purpose than a one off shock moment
honestly, while I do like, or even LOVE, the idea you present at the mid point, I always thought that the Sparta level was actually gonna be an extended version of the moment where Gaia gave Kratos a vision where Sparta burns in the background, this would've made Kratos realize that by denying serving Zeus, HE lead the destruction that Sparta would face when Zeus arrived also that first theory REALLY made you think You've gone insane lmao, you got me there!
If we ever get a remake of the Greek saga it would be awesome if the lost levels are in the game, also Great vid as always kuba I hope you are doing good 👍
I love this, however, I have one relatively important problem with the idea - I think you’re slightly overcomplicating the time travel in the series. We’re never explicitly told there are any timelines. So Kratos hopping into the portal, taking the blade from Zeus and killing Athena results in him stopping the destruction of Sparta. This is all one timeline, the game never shows any splinters. When he comes out of the portal, he’s in the same world where Athena is now dead. We have no reason to believe he created separate timelines. This is, of course, a temporary saving of Sparta, because GoW 3’s events wiped out almost everything in Greece anyway, but still. My point is, if he created different timelines, then in GoW 3 Athena would still be alive and Zeus would have the Blade of Olympus, too. Your presumption on how the timetravel in GoW 2 works is just incorrect.
Why are the chains on the blades of choas only sometimes there and other times not how dose that work is there a in world reason he had them under the floor bored and mounted them on the wall for example
Placing this level after Zeus boss fight would be the lamest idea ever. Imagine fighting the "final boss fight" and then also having to fight a few waves of random soldiers and enemies before ending the game. I can see why they removed it, if you guessed the placement right.
I think this theory would be neat to see if they finished it and put in the game if they remaster all the Greek god of war games for PS4 and PS5 collection without erasing and changing things except updating the graphics.
Crazy idea 💡 what if Sony Santa Monica does a crisis core reunion remaster/remake for God of war 1 and 2 , BUT they include the lost levels in God of war 2?
@@KaptainKuba I mean, considering that Sony Santa Monica has a (HEALTHY) habit of putting a lot of effort in their games, there's a chance that we could get remasters that look like a Remake. But what can I say, an old school fanboy can dream.
Well, that is just blatantly obvious. Kratos going BACK IN TIME to the point, where not even Kratos was dead yet, Sparta of course wasn't destroyed yet.
I may have over looked this but isn’t there now technically 2 Kratos in the world rn? Cause when Kratos went back in time to kill Zues when he first killed Kratos and went off to fight somewhere else. So what happened to the Kratos that was killed? Does he still come back to life or does he just die right then and there?
Really interesting video All this time I always thought Sparta was just supposed to be a starting level before it was changed for Rhodes. That's why Kratos is wearing his armor in the short clip. Also as much as I'd love to see this level coming back in remake I'm pretty sure it wouldn't happen. SSM won't do the remake by themselves I would rather expect Bluepoint Games to take care of it and they don't really make that kind of changes. Like in the Demons' Souls Remake they've had opportunity to add cut sixth archstone but they kept it as it was in original

From what I see Sparta was already saved in god of war 2, that's just my opinion
yo whats the name of the first background music? amazing video btw.
if you are talking about the humming one playing throughout the video it's the Melody of Pandora from God of War 3
in the zeus fight, i think kratos says "not let you destroy sparta"
This video is such a masterpiece, I agree with you on this video being your peak. Thank you
Kuba you just made my morning
He says ,,to not let you destroy spartan'' because Zeus destroy Sparta in the cutscene when you fight with the last Spartan
"Fine, I will do it myself"
-Zeus
Wow! Matpat level of theorizing!! 😅
Wow, we're going deep with this one
Lmao that censor was funny 😆
Athena at the end of their conversation: "you leave me no choice"
Zeus when kratos refuses servitude: "then you leave me no choice"
This along with the fact that even kratos thinks it's athena going against him makes for an interesting moment
I would argue those are Athenians. Gow is very keen on explaining story through games and what better way to give us sparta vs Athens other than the goddess of Athens herself. Now since Athena is a being of higher existence having her send her soldiers to stop kratos from changing Sparta's destruction sounds like a cool sideplot and gives Athena a bigger purpose than a one off shock moment
honestly, while I do like, or even LOVE, the idea you present at the mid point, I always thought that the Sparta level was actually gonna be an extended version of the moment where Gaia gave Kratos a vision where Sparta burns in the background, this would've made Kratos realize that by denying serving Zeus, HE lead the destruction that Sparta would face when Zeus arrived
also that first theory REALLY made you think You've gone insane lmao, you got me there!
would love a remake with this added back in!
Awesome video
I would love to play these lost levels I also thought he said not destroy sparta
BROOOOOOOO When you said EAGLE! that was nuff said!! THOSE ARE ZEUS'S SOLDIERS!!!!!!
I hear "Not let you destroy sparta"
Great vid
I know so much about god of war that at this point I'm looking at cut content i already know about in hopes I'll find something new 😂
Thank you captain it was mind-blowing
Why are the chains on the blades of choas only sometimes there and other times not how dose that work is there a in world reason he had them under the floor bored and mounted them on the wall for example
I feel like you and Adbay comepete against each other 😂
Placing this level after Zeus boss fight would be the lamest idea ever.
I hope they do but devs just don't do these changes
@@KaptainKuba I mean, considering that Sony Santa Monica has a (HEALTHY) habit of putting a lot of effort in their games, there's a chance that we could get remasters that look like a Remake. But what can I say, an old school fanboy can dream.
He said I won’t let you destroy Sparta
You see this Sony Santa Monica if you remake the first two your investments will come racing back into your pocket with reinforcements
I really don't know what to say you are a genius thx was this amazing video.
Well, that is just blatantly obvious. Kratos going BACK IN TIME to the point, where not even Kratos was dead yet, Sparta of course wasn't destroyed yet.
This is not a Theory its a Simple True amazing discovery put all togheter
I may have over looked this but isn’t there now technically 2 Kratos in the world rn? Cause when Kratos went back in time to kill Zues when he first killed Kratos and went off to fight somewhere else. So what happened to the Kratos that was killed? Does he still come back to life or does he just die right then and there?
I want to see a god of war 2 remake before I die
Really interesting video
All this time I always thought Sparta was just supposed to be a starting level before it was changed for Rhodes.
Amazing work! Gotta replay these gems soon. Gonna have to be on ps3 though :/
REMASTER GOW1&2
I swear if kuba was on a boat full of god of war theorist and say “I’m de Kaptian now” and it be 100 percent true 😂 good stuff!
Poor Tom Hacks' channel 😂
@@KaptainKuba you the goat!!!!!
