  • How many individual animals were there on Noah’s ark? And how could only eight people care for all of them? In this episode of The Genesis Account of Noah’s Ark, Calvin Smith answers all these questions and more.
This is the sixth episode of a series titled The Genesis Account of Noah’s Ark. You can watch the other episodes here: www.Answers.TV/the-genesis-ac...

The problem a lot of people, and even well-meaning Christians, face is they keep thinking of this as a naturally-empowered venture: one man and his family undertaking the entire process. We can never leave God out of His own story, because if we fail to recognise that He initiated, He supported, and He followed this all through to completion, then it's Noah, not God, who gets the glory.

We always tend to think of calculated answers but God works miracles to and even when He doesn't use such He makes sure to provide He can make 1 twig assist 10 animals if He wants .. your presentation is amazing because it shows it can be done to the skeptics with calculations etc and to the believers that it can be done even if there wasn't enough...you are very great presenter! That's the thing with miracles. They can never be too great to be true. The crazier, the more implausible, even when absolutely impossible the greater they are. For any of this to happen god needs to break every single law of his physics. God is so allmighty, that he even can make a stone he can't lift himself. He is so all-knowing that he can even knows how to make himself forget stuff.

Just as God brought the animals to the Ark, closed the door and caused the flood itself, it is reasonable that God also suspended a host of other attributes of the animals, such as needing moisture, meat-eating, etc. After all, He created them.

they could have used an Archimedes screw to remove waste and the covering on the ark was removable according to the bible so that would help with ventilation also there was a window or windows on the ark below the roof. More windows wouldn’t help. Poisonous gases would sink to the lower decks. Self feeders still have to be resupplied. Many animals have special diets. Every time a creationist says “could have or might have” it means more technology, more industry, more human labor. You might as well have said he had a super container ship, or a Carnival cruise ship. 100 years of planning and work? My question is not so much how they fed the animals on the Ark, but how the carnivores ate after the flood. Even if you start out with fourteen of each kind of clean, herbivore, after the flood, you have predators that can eat faster than prey can reproduce. Not trying to troll; just an honest question.

    • @isaiahbarton7160
      @isaiahbarton7160 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Given that almost all carnivores today are capable of eating and surviving off of plants (mind you, not particularly thriving), I would say its safe to assume that the animals of the time, who had only recently started eating meat (and were likely more omnivores rather then carnivores at the time), would be able to survive off of plants alone for at least the 1 year to 2 years it would take for the other animals to have reproduced enough for meat to be added back into their diets. Now as to how or why they would suddenly stop eating meat for that 2 year period. God had made them get on the boat and you can assume he also made them wait to start eating meet again. Because most if not all of the animals were juvenile, it is also safe to assume that eating meat as an omnivorous baby was not to common to begin with, so their taste for meat was likely not yet developed. I hope this helps.

    1. The most common date given for the flood is 4400 years ago, right in the middle of the Egyptians first burst of city and temple building, why did they not notice they were under water?
    2. To flood the planet to over top the highest mountain you would need about 3 to 4 times the known amount of water in the world, where did all that water come from?
    3. After the flood, where did the water go?
    4. How did 8 people build a wooden ship bigger than any wooden ship built in modern times when THAT ship was reinforced with steel bracing and still broke up and sank.
    5. How did animals with odd diets get to the ark?
    6. How did 8 people deal with the needs of 10000 animals on the ark? Each animal had to be fed, watered, exercised and the poop scooped. Working 12 hours a day they would need to deal with over 100 animals per hour.
    7. If there were 10000 animals on the ark representing about 4000 species, and there is now about 8.7 million species on Earth, each species surviving the flood would have to generate 217 new species in the 4400 years since the flood.
    8. If there were 10000 animals on the ark representing about 4000 species, and there is now about 8.7 million species on Earth, each species surviving the flood would have to generate 217 new species in the 4400 years since the flood.
    9. Well according to the Book of Jasher, the wives ARE sisters. Jasher 5: 32-35 "And thou shalt choose for thy sons three maidens, from the daughters of men, and they shall be wives to thy sons. And Noah rose up, and he made the ark, in the place where God had commanded him, and Noah did as God had ordered him. In his five hundred and ninety-fifth year Noah commenced to make the ark, and he made the ark in five years, as the Lord had commanded. Then Noah took the three daughters of Eliakim, son of Methuselah, for wives for his sons, as the Lord had commanded Noah." If a species undergoes a population bottleneck, the lack of genetic diversity can be seen in the members of that species. NO such bottle neck exists in the overwhelming majority of species.
    10. 4400 years is not a long enough time to generate the diversity in the human population to give rise to the different populations of people we see on the planet especially when you consider that effectively the genetic diversity was limited to 4 people, Noah and his wife and Eliakim and his wife.
    11. Ken Ham's phony Ark has a million Dollar + heating, ventilation and air conditioning system that ensures that workers and visitors do not suffocate in the building. According to the bible, the original Ark had one window, 18 in square. Sorry people but if Ham's estimate of 1600 species represented by a minimum of 4000 animals, they would have suffocated.
    12. There is NO trace of any global flood in the geology of the world. Lots of local and regional floods, yes, but NO global flood.
    13. Oh and by the way, for those fools at CMI who think Noah's Flood was a real event, a Tomb has been discovered in Egypt dated to 4400 years ago, about the time of the mythical flood (according to many biblical creationists). This raises several questions.
    a. If the Tomb was built before the flood, how did it escape being flooded?
    b. If the Tomb was built after the flood, the Earth's population would have been devistated so who built the tomb?
    c. Why is this Tomb perfectly in line with Egyptian culture before and after the fairy tale flood? If everybody in Egypt were killed in the flood, the Egyptian culture from before the flood would have been lost.

The water cycle is also mentioned in the bible long long before science knew about it. an expanding universe has been confirmed by the hubble station and in the bible it speaks of an expanding universe and it also had a beginning just like the big bang theory suggests and that theory was given by a catholic priest who was also a scientist.

A Harvard-led study indicates that Earth’s early ocean could have been one to two times larger than the current ocean volume1.
These calculations are based on the interior water storage capacity of the planet, which includes the water bound to minerals in the Earth’s mantle.
Researchers compiled data from scientific literature on minerals that contain oxygen and hydrogen atoms (the chemical equivalents of water) and used these figures to estimate the mantle’s water storage capacity.
    Implications:
In extreme scenarios, if the primordial ocean were two times larger than today’s ocean, it might have completely flooded the land masses on the early Earth.
While modern Earth’s surface is approximately 70 percent water-covered, this research suggests that our planet was a true ocean world billions of years ago

All of these speculations as to the kind and size of the animals aboard the ark are presented by an organization that disputes evolution because it is "non-observational". By the way, many animals breed quite often. Rabbits, for instance can have 4-5 litters per year, with anywhere up to 14 offspring per litter. Maybe if you separated the animals so they couldn't breed. Of course that means you need at lot more pens, and they would have to be widely separated, so feeding would be a bit complicated. San Diego Zoo has 12,000 animals and 3000 employees, so 1 employee for 4 animals. Even if you pare down the number of animals on the ark to say, 1600, that means 400 people are needed to care for them. Well, let's say they don't have to give guided tours, so we'll cut that number in half. So 200 employees. Still a lot more than eight. Here's what I suggest Ark Encounter does. Load their model ark with the number of animals they believe were on Noah's ark, the necessary food and water for a year's occupation, seal it up (remember only one 20 inch square window to the outside), and hire eight people to live and work on board looking after the animals. Success in that endeavour would go along way to proving their contention.

According to the general consensus of scholarship *(even critical Christian scholars),* YHWH was originally incorporated into the Canaanite pantheon as a son of the Canaanite high god El before inheriting the top spot in the pantheon and El's wife Athirat (Asherah) before religious reforms "divorced" them. If you want to see if El is fictional, just read his mythology in the Ugaritic/Canaanite texts. His pantheon in Ugarit is called the *Elohim,* literally the plural of El. Interestingly, the Biblical god is also referred to numerous times as Elohim.
"When El was young, he came across two beautiful Goddesses washing their clothes in the Sea. They were Athirat (Asherah) and the Goddess Rahmaya, and, after buttering them up by cooking a meal for them, he asked them to choose between being his daughters or wives. They choose the latter and became the mothers of the Gods Shachar "Dawn" and Shalim "Dusk"."
*"First, a god named El predates the arrival of the Israelites into Syria-Palestine.* Biblical usage shows El was not just a generic noun, but often a proper name for Israel’s God (e.g., Gen 33:20: “El, the God of Israel”)."
"I should add here that it is very clear from the grammar that the noun nachalah in v. 9 should be translated “inheritance.” *Yahweh receives Israel as his “inheritance” (nachalah), just as the other sons of El received their nations as their inheritance (nachal, v. 8).* With this verb, especially in the Hiphil, the object is always what is being given as an inheritance. Thus, Israel is given to Yahweh as his inheritance. ((Here I’m indebted to Dan McClellan.)) It would make no sense for Elyon to give himself an inheritance. Moreover, as I’ve argued elsewhere, it is not just the Gentile nations that are divided up according to the number of the sons of El. It is all of humankind, i.e., “the sons of Adam.” This clearly includes Israel. And the sons of Adam are not divided up according to the number of the sons of El, plus one (i.e., plus Elyon). They are divided up, according to the text, solely according to the number of the sons of El. *Thus, that Yahweh receives Israel as his inheritance makes Yahweh one of the sons of El mentioned in v. 8. Any other construal of the text would constitute its rewriting."*

MVP (minimum viable population). The minimum number of a species to guarantee it's survival. For most terrestrail vertebrates that number is 500-1000, without accounting for inbreeding or stochastic events. When taking those into account, the number rises to about 4000. So if 1500 "kinds" were required on the ark, the total number of animals would be 1000 X1500 = 1,500.000. So my suggestion is, go for the "miracle" explanation. The sciency one doesn't hold water, to coin a phrase. As far as food goes, koalas eat only eucalyptus leaves. Nothing else. So somehow Noah had to get eucaluptus leaves from Australia to the middle east. Again, I'd go for for the miracle thing. In fact, the reason I can see the creationists try to bring science into it is they don't believe the story themselves.

The flood is a 12-13,000 year old story. It was ancient in the time of Sumeria. Not saying God didn't have everything to do with it, but in the words of Jesus- (depending on your translation) God's flock, brothers and sisters, children of God perish for lack of knowledge." History is made known to us so that we will know how we came to be here and the stages of our relationship with Abba, creator. I am saying that the bible is both the ultimate truth and full of lies; exaggerations is a more pleasant form of description, but if an exaggeration is not truth, and not truth is a lie, plenty abound. Yes, the flood was the whole world, just like Xerxes, Alexander and Caesar were ruler's of "the entire world".

  • @modellingmisadventures

There are only two explanations for this story. The first one (which is the truth) is that it is a man made fantasy created by ancient scribes who knew virtually nothing about the world. The second is that an unspeakably cruel God decided to drown all the innocent animals on the planet apart from the lucky few that were sent to the ark. Most people find the thought of deliberately drowning animals to be a despicable act. I can’t understand why creationists look back on this story and see within it evidence of a caring and loving God.

@@andrewbrimmer1797 The Big Bang is a term used to describe the origin of the Universe. It was suspected based on the observational fact that the stars and galaxies are all moving away from each other. In other words, the universe is expanding. If this process is played backwards, it demonstrates that all the matter in the Universe originated from a single point known as a singularity. If the Big Bang actually happened, there would be a detectable echo originating from that time. This echo has now been discovered. There is no need for a God to explain the origin of the cosmos, but if you want to believe in one, you have to also accept that this God is responsible for some unspeakably wicked things. The list is endless in that department.

It's interesting to debate on how the animals were cared for, how was food and water provided, etc. But in reality, just as God brought the animals to Noah, just as He shut the door after Noah and family entered the Ark, just as He was active in causing the flood, it stands to reason that He would've provided some way to manage the care of the humans and animals physical needs.
A miracle is a miracle. Either you believe, or you don't. Certainly, if God can cause a worldwide global flood catastrophe, why is there any doubt/hesitation to think that God could and would provide some solution to this problem. Perhaps it was technological, and Noah had clever sanitation system ideas. Or as others have said, perhaps most of the animals went into a hibernation mode. And maybe it was a combination of the two.

    • @alanthompson8515

Yeah, your invocation of magic. aka miracles. is as old as this story. It served well as an explanation of all its literal impossibilities, which were evident to folk long before modern science came along to add to them. It is solely the tiny rump of Christian believers who cling to a literal interpretation of scripture (people like Ken Ham and his Arktistic License) who rightly feel threatened by science and try to deny it or rewrite its explanations. Apparently science is so powerful these days that the Ol' Time Religion with its God Did It Magic is no longer persuasive enough.

Of course the story of Noah is in the book of Genesis, which predates Christianity and is a Jewish scripture. So no matter how much effort you put into trying to prove the truth of the story of the flood, the biggest question remains unanswered. Of course here I am referring to the fact that the Jewish religion does not recognise that Jesus was the son of God. This in itself undermines the whole basis of Christianity. You make great efforts to prove the Jewish scriptures are true, so perhaps their belief that Jesus was not the son of God is also true?
