Those ideas work great for removing a wheel or other major work. For just lubing the chain and adjusting the rear brake, I place a piece of 2x4 under the side stand, then use a very small scissors jack that came with a car (it says Nissan on it, but I have no idea what kind of Nissan it came from, I found it in like new condition at a thrift store) and put it under the right side of the swing arm. That works fine if you only need to lift the rear enough to where you can spin the wheel. To make it sturdier, you can either place the front wheel against something, or put a clamp on the front brake lever so the wheel can't turn. I have removed the front wheel (which is easier to remove than the rear wheel) by locking the rear brake with the brake adjusting nut, placing the side stand on a 2x4, then placing another 2x4 under the engine and using the scissors jack to lift the front wheel off the floor. You need to be careful that way, it is better to use a wheel chock and/or have the bike strapped down.
I have owned 6 Rebel 250s, and currently have a like new 2016 I bought brand new. My 2 biggest problems with them is their lack of a center stand and their tube type tires. While I have ridden cross country on Rebel 250s, and had a few flat tires, which required a tow truck, I am now 63 and partially disabled, and stay much closer to home.

Glad you are still able to enjoy the Rebels. This is my second Rebel. 15 or 20 years ago, I had an 86 Rebel 450, which did have a center stand. It definately came in handy.
Again, I appreciate the time and thought you put into your comments. Thank you for contributing your experience.

I hope you can continue to ride for many years. I am looking at a 2016 Rebel 250 myself to purchase. Only 49 miles on it! What color is yours?

Do you use new gaskets when you take your exhaust off and put back on

You should always replace the crush gaskes when you take the exhaust apart.

The block of wood was the trick I was missing!

Yes, without it, there is too much flex in the board.

Do you have anything on how to replace the stator on a 86 rebel 250?

Sorry, I don't. I haven't needed to do that yet. I will keep that in mind, though.

I believe EBay has a center kickstand for your Rebel.

Interesting. I'll have to post in the Rebel forum to see if anyone has tried these. looking at the pictures, I am skeptical that it would fit. I think the exhaust my be in the way, but it could be that the picture is just a generic one and not the one for the Rebel 250
