I watched the vent whip video and was curious if that was ok to use on a flexible duct like the one above the blower in this video?? Will it tear up the inside liner? If so, what do you recommend to use to clean a longer stretch of flexible duct. I want to clean the shower fan vent and I can't quite reach the whole distance.. TIA!
There were mouse droppings in the vents (think brown rice). That sticky residue you scraped was, sorry to say, mouse urine that has dried up. I have been there, unfortunately. Thanks for the video!
Interesting video. Well done. I live in the south so my ducts are in the ceiling and are flexible rather than metal. Do you think that whip would damage those type of ducts?
What do you do if There is standing water in a vent and other's wet from water from the firedepartment after a fire. Its a mobile home and my heater and ducts are exactly like yours. We are also doing a remodel and are at the same place as your remodel. I need help but cant afford the high prices. Thanks
If the water is from the fire department, first check with them what toxic compounds are in it. Many departments use chemical additives to put the fire out faster and some of those additives are toxic, and then there's smoke and ash that are toxic in their own right. A good department should be able to advise you how to clean it out safely. If they can't help, I'd go for gloves and a chemicals mask (more expensive than a dust mask but lungs aren't cheap either) and some goggles, and get some disposable paper towel in there to soak it up and then put it out with the garbage. If you have a chronic water leak into your duct, you need to locate the cause and either fix it or get it fixed by a professional, depending what the cause is. There's not much point cleaning out the standing water while there's more water coming in, and breathing air that is contaminated with stagnant water will make you sick.
Much to think about here in terms of duct design and layout to make them easier to clean. Thank you!
