    Mitch - I literally had a company come out today & did the low quote then he had to talk to the supervisor outside my home to come let me know he found mold so the price went up to $800 like you said! Great job explaining how this whole system works, I really appreciate this lesson and can definitely see how the scams go. They basically only take care of the stuff I should be least worried about. No confusion you did a fantastic job at dissecting all parts. Don't get the best filter you can find. Change cheap filters once a month. You raise the static pressure in a system causing the blower to work harder to pump the air. That's why capacitors go bad so quick too, thick filters cause heavy load on startup. Then lazy techs throw hard starts on systems they told people to put thick HEPA filters in. Filter changing and a i-wave r will keep the return plenum and coil clean and the i-wave r will kill bacteria and mold!

    Fantastic and informative! So, the "Groupon Scam special" you stated is normally upsold from $129 to roughly $800 which you illustrated was unreasonable! They prey against the elderly! Thank you!!! So, if a reputable duct cleaning company cleans the vents, trunk lines and the plenom, generally speaking, can the homeowner expect to be charged less than the $800 and should this cleaning be done every year? I suppose that the total will depend on whether they buy the air scrubbing system technicians will try to sell homeowners for around $1,500. These ultraviolet air scrubbers are on all of the time and burn out after 3 months needing replacement $250 each time. Are these air purifiers really effective in stopping dust travel and mold spores? Thank you very much, Mitch!

    I suspect it may be cheaper to replace furnace and ducts with properly sized ducts vs the box and tub system I see here. I vacuumed my supply duct years ago when moving in and It was unreal what was in the duct. I believe a filter at the grill(s) to the duct would be ideal.

    I loved your other video about duct cleaning scams, informative AND entertaining! I've started noticing my air filter getting CAKED in gray/black within 1-2 weeks(even using a high quality one!) & My kids are having allergy-type symptoms so..I know mine need to be cleaned badly. But last year I was told with new laws (regarding the refrigerant) going into effect, HVAC people wouldn't be allowed to work on our system anymore. I'd have to get a new one. Even if not true, I just don't know who to even trust to do it now! So.. Do you think if I were to rent a negative air machine, buy an air whip and/or rotary brush, & use my high powered air compressor, would it be possible that I could clean the system myself? I wish I could just hire you, if I were local to your area!

    • @HYPERIAQ

      @seraphina.Your air conditioner can still be worked on, it doesn't matter that it has the old R-22 refrigerant in it, but it is extremely expensive if you need to recharge your system. So no it's not that they can't work on it, they just want you to buy a new air conditioner.

    • @XX-qf5zj
      @XX-qf5zj ปีที่แล้ว

      But if they told you exactly that I would think about getting a second opinion. The only time we say that is when we can’t find parts to fix or in the case of an old furnace it is very old and there is a high probability of becoming liable for touching it in case it harms people and we were the last company to touch it.

    A couple advantages to our house-- we don't have return ducts, just vents below the furnace in a central closet. And our supply vents are in the ceiling where people can't drop random garbage into them. But the house is over 50 years old and I doubt the system has ever been cleaned. So no telling how bad it actually is.

    If that made the 'great place for mold to grow' out of Copper or Silver it would NOT be a great place for mold to grow thus the industry who cleans and the companies that made the equipment mutually benefit by not making it out of the materials required to make it not a great place for mold to grow.

    Do not get hustled on UV lights unless your coils are clean, and if you just want that mental security… It’s not a fix for mold, dead mold is just as allergenic/toxigenic as viable mold. It’s still going to be there. The EPA and NADCA both do not condone fogging antimicrobials in HVAC systems either. Look it up. The fog loses its efficacy after a couple of feet. And once again, we’re not removing, we’re still killing, which goes against the Standard For Care, which is the removal/remediation of microbial growth. The goal is to just not get mold in your system with proper filtration so you should never even need to clean anything. Watch for duct leakage that can cause sweating too. No moisture, no mold. New builds need duct cleaning unfortunately because of all of the building dust.

    I have a 33-year old house with Flexible Air Ducts... basically, coiled wire and plastic. I have been told that, given the age of the house, using a roto-brush for cleaning would not be a good idea, since it could tear or puncture the ducts. Your "live" cameras showing boxed metal filters being roto-cleaned aren't helpful to me at all. I have a 2-story house with 6 registers upstairs and 15 downstairs. Because of what *Brandon* has done to the economy, I am told that ducting has gone up about 500% this year. The first floor ducts cannot be replaced. The upstairs ducts can be, at a cost of $450-600 each. It has been suggested that I have a HEPA filter installed for each unit (there is one for upstairs, a second for downstairs).... at a cost of around $2500 each (x2)! That seems more practical.... but am still stuck with using the same ducts, which are potentially contaminated. I am also considering upgrading the two units, which (I think) will get me new plenums. What say you?

    I’m starting to wonder if you just went to a class and learned how to do this or did you actually go to college and learn HVAC like I did I know service and I also installed and now I’ve also owned my own cleaning business for 13 years in Hawaii not one complaint and if there is a complaint I go back and I take care of it but you know why there’s never a complaint because of attention to detail

    • @VeryProudPatriot
      @VeryProudPatriot ปีที่แล้ว

      Instead of criticizing the author of the video, perhaps you should show us your vast knowledge and expertise, and do a video of your own that's superior to what Mitch has provided. You say you've been in business for 13 years and have never had a complaint. I find that very difficult to believe. Why? The fact is, even the very best business owners on the planet have complaints. There are customers out there that will complain no matter how excellent the service is. So, with no complaints whatsoever in 13 years, you are either a statistical anomaly or you have greatly exaggerated your business record and acumen.

    Please help! I had an air duct cleaning conpany come to my house supposed to do an estimate of 99 coupon up to 5 vents and 20+ after that. The actually checked with a small camera and told me that the air duct is made with fiberglass and it can't be clean but they can do the coating but it 1800. I saw through their camera really quick and saw a parts with a little hole. So my question is should I beliebe and do that coating? Or should I try another company...I had another company a few months ago and they told us our air duct were fine they only use a flashlight they only found mold and sprayed something..I suffer from allergies so I am desperate to any solution. This is not my house I rent a 2/2 apartment so thats another issue that I dont think landlord would pay anything...please advice...PS the air flow is not the same in the two bedrooms one is super cold the other one the opposite

Saw a coupon started at 100 bucks that jumped to 300 with a added dryer vent cleaning, then after inspection he found mold, needed a uv light, that jumped to 1500...I declined. Hook and bait switch but I dodged a bullet! Hopefully I find a legit companty RDU N.C. area. Good note he did find a bird in my dryer coil😂 I guess this a win!

Right then and there I said here comes the upsell, then I told him have a good day and thanked him for coming out.

      @@donaldcedar7574 another thing you could do is, you could turn the flash on your phone on put it down in one of your supply events or return vents, but be careful not to drop it lol. Take a picture and check it out that account to tell you where you’re at as well. As far as check in the furnace I would definitely have a certified company do that though cause you want to look on the top and bottom side of the coils.
