I just want to say thank you Jimmy and the gang for showing and teaching us through your projects. I think I can speak for everyone when I say, You guys are an inspiration and we look forward to watching every single video.
Jimmy I know on the podcast you’ve talked about this not being a lifelong career. If that day ever does come please do the world a favor and do something educational with your engineering and communication skills. I feel like I’ve gotten more out of watching your content thru the years than I got from the degree I spent tens of thousands on. Thank you always
So stoked on this series!!! I'm putting a 1JZ-vvti in a Volvo 240 and you just answered so many questions about the refresh process! Thank you! Keep up the good work!!! Kirk
OK. I'm confused. How is Oakes Garage at only 519K subs? Man. People are missing out on fantastic car guy/gal content! Austin and Spoon REALLY upped the game! Keep pumping them out Y'all!!!! and thanks.
I agree patience is key when assembling an engine. Take your time, double check your work as you go. If something doesn't seem right stop and figure it out. You shouldn't ever have to force anything. 🤘
FUKN! MOTION!! BRO.. you been about the motion, keeping shit moving and curating the best! FUKN team of car guys. All around this is the best bunch of guys that a car guy could watch.
Collapsible magnet through the bottom of a socket, place socket over stock retainer. Give it a healthy tap with the hammer, magnet grabs keepers and you save a ton of time on removal.
I thought this was one of the best videos ever I love not fully building a JZ but studding it and the valvespring and retainers and cams is a dope start I bet this stock engine goes hard
I did this on my b5 s4, used the same tool to compress the springs to take the keepers out and the trick is slide a jack handle over the handle of the tool so you can put leverage on it easier, its better on your hands and arms cus it can be quite annoying trying to fit those keepers back in place, also correct me if im wrong but you dont need to put air in the cylinders or anything as long as its at tdc, i did it without air and only thing was i had to be careful of not moving the valve while trying to compress the spring. Took a few days but very rewarding job
Proper threw me off again seeing Andy in the vid again 😂 I remember seeing him in the Ireland vid and I was like the fuck how did andy spawn there and now he’s done it again 😂
Thanks for the excellent advice and explanation, I've done every wrong thing you highlighted and advised not to and am pretty familiar with cam swaps but I still learned something Jimmy, the way you explain in your easygoing manner is easy to get and follow, thanks and keep the great content coming, much love from Alabama
love the build! would love to see you guys check the valve lash though - new cams can always be a mistery. would be easy to check it now with a feeler gauge, rather than have excsessive lash or too little :) Keen on hearing her purrrrr. Much love from Germany
at 14 minutes you can see why jimmys channel is so good, his hands show that just because he has others to do work he is still doing his part and getting his hands quite literally dirty xD
If the engine was sitting for a long time with moisture inside, you probably should've done the headgasket while youre doing everything else. Pretty sure its MLS from factory, couldnt it potentially be compromised via rust/oxidation? No worries about machining or Decking the block/head, just use a sharpening stone (wider than the block) for a quick resurface, very common practice here in New Zealand and over in Aussie, necessary prep for MLS Gasket
FYI; you can use a company23 valve spring compressor tool. you have to slightly hone the bolt holes for the tool. trust me, its significantly easier and faster to change valve springs on most toyota, and subaru heads.
If you wrap the shank of the screw driver with a piece of wire and then short the wire to the positive and negative of a battery it will also magnetize the screw driver.
Crazy to think you guys are basically building the engine I got in my gs 300 in the states I’d get pulled over so quick if it was cammed tho 😢😂 would sounds insane
If the ARP washers have knurling on one side that side goes towards the head and is not supposed to be lubed, it will actually cause and I’ve torque situation. May not be the case with the 2jz kit but it is for a lot of others so be careful using this trick, an acid brush is a fantastic alternative method to lube the threads and washer tops aswell.
Sick video Jimmy! Lots of great info and will be referencing this in the spring when i do valve seals on my 1JZ Foxbody. Any good resources for factory Toyota procedures you showed? Can confirm Italian tune up will help those valves seat better.
Probably should have done the head gasket while you were in there… Either way you boys know what you’re doing 👍 Can’t wait to see this thing up and running!!
If you don't have compressed air you can push soft nylon rope down the plug hole with the engine at BDC (bottom dead center) when it's full of rope turn the crank so the piston goes up and pushes the rope against the valves so they can't fall down. Use brand new rope for every cylinder.
Somebody was building the "supra-supra" that ment to be the mk5 supra😅. Love the toyota z4 also🤪, as long it has wheels, i'm good with it💨💨🙌 Grtz and love from belgium.
Pro tip , bluepoint/ snap on do a mean in place valve spring tool , it works with the tap of a hammer disassembled, and then with a tap of a hammer reassembled . Holds the keepers in place and everything .
next time you do a head and are swapping spring if you set the keepers in the retainer lay a plastic bag pieace over it press down keeper go in the right place by themselves
As someone who has personally built many engines. I agree you can stud drop it and be fine. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. I mean how much does a head gasket cost just for peace of mind haha
Top work guys - can't wait to see our bumpsticks unlock the full potential of this 2JZ 🤣🤣
I just want to say thank you Jimmy and the gang for showing and teaching us through your projects. I think I can speak for everyone when I say, You guys are an inspiration and we look forward to watching every single video.
ye man, wish there was 2 uploads per day tbh
I'm with that
Every single one.
Deadass the only channel I watch every upload of, haven’t been this big a fan of a TH-cam channel since like 2015
Only car channel I actually enjoy watching, very educational but just chillen with the homies! Thank you Jim
Let me unlock your mysteries Jimmy.
Pause
Hold on now, som ain't right 😅
Lmao
Im getting a "lemme oil you up dana" kinda vibe😂
Give him your FULL potential
Glad to see Andy’s still runnin round the US doin car stuff
Yes sir

+1 for Kelford cams! I put them in my subaru, and it really woke up and had a great power band!
So stoked on this series!!! I'm putting a 1JZ-vvti in a Volvo 240 and you just answered so many questions about the refresh process! Thank you! Keep up the good work!!!
Kirk
HIGHLIGHT of my night when yall post
The speed at which this build and revitalization is happening is AWESOME...i hope more projects are like this in the future
OK. I'm confused. How is Oakes Garage at only 519K subs? Man. People are missing out on fantastic car guy/gal content! Austin and Spoon REALLY upped the game! Keep pumping them out Y'all!!!! and thanks.
D4A just 1m but Jimmy Oakes only has half that, doesn’t make sense to me.
I agree patience is key when assembling an engine. Take your time, double check your work as you go. If something doesn't seem right stop and figure it out. You shouldn't ever have to force anything. 🤘
Love it when Jimmy explains. Very intuitive
A good lesson for those who want to learn about mechanics.
Turns out to be a great deal. The complete rolling chassis is mint with low mileage and the MK4 2JZ turned out to be solid. Good score Jimbo!
FUKN! MOTION!! BRO.. you been about the motion, keeping shit moving and curating the best! FUKN team of car guys. All around this is the best bunch of guys that a car guy could watch.
Best video to watch on my birthday thanks jimmy oaks and the team

By far my favourite TH-camer Jimmy n gang keep up the amazing work
Love my kelford 218-c cams the chop and power.
I did this to my SR a couple of years ago, had to wing it with how to do it, wish this video was around then 😂 Killer work gents
I thought this was one of the best videos ever I love not fully building a JZ but studding it and the valvespring and retainers and cams is a dope start I bet this stock engine goes hard
Props for doing the seals, just got some in the mail today for this spring myself

I love the fact that you’re rocking one of mikes hoodies. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Proper threw me off again seeing Andy in the vid again 😂 I remember seeing him in the Ireland vid and I was like the fuck how did andy spawn there and now he’s done it again 😂
It’s all AI
Hands down the best channel ! Keep it up Jimmy and crew 💯

I learn so much from jimmy. I don't understand how he can be so comfortable doing all of this
For the love of God, please create a playlist for each project. I would like to binge watch videos of each project
lowkey stressing over those keepers and getting flashbacks to building heads at a machine shop
Nissonda needs to make a comeback
Thank you!! I said thr same last video.
For real. Get the gang sliding it this coming season
YES i miss that thing!
@@ProbablyShouldntDailyThis Dope custom ported head, forged, great turbo KA on link🤤
i see the ramps back on the dyno!!!!! please let there be some tuning content soon!!!!
love the build!
would love to see you guys check the valve lash though - new cams can always be a mistery.
would be easy to check it now with a feeler gauge, rather than have excsessive lash or too little :)
Keen on hearing her purrrrr.
Much love from Germany

The quality on these videos are nuts
Was waiting all day for the upload! Stoked to watch this build!
When you watched an OK'S video you are at training school, learning is the key to success in life 😂😂😂 well done Jimbo
Wassup family!!🔥🔥
@20:47 Spoon missed a a chance to say that must happen you alot Jimmy 😂🎉

Dedication to the craft reaps rewards.
usdm blocks have a vin tag on the block by the starter held in by two rivets
I like how all of the end screen video links and Jimmy's page icon are all red cars.
FYI; you can use a company23 valve spring compressor tool. you have to slightly hone the bolt holes for the tool. trust me, its significantly easier and faster to change valve springs on most toyota, and subaru heads.
Your videos make me wanna buy parts for no reason
Jimmy and gang, y'all rock! Love the 2JZ stuff. Peace ✌️
I love my t202c cams in my 2jz it sounds so good
If you wrap the shank of the screw driver with a piece of wire and then short the wire to the positive and negative of a battery it will also magnetize the screw driver.
Put a Volvo ford duratec 3.2 inline 6 in a car. Also put Altima front knuckles on your S chassis and make it awd
The coupe on the Dino is fun to look at
the two hand twister at 8:18 sheeeesh
Can’t wait to see this thing
Super interesting video. Love seeing informational stuff like this
Love these videos, learning a bunch
ooo-wee, this things gonna be full Wild Thornberries.
replacing the rod bolts may be a good idea also if you plan on revving this jz fairly high
Don't you need to shim the buckets to match the new cams?
Yes…
like he said at the beginning
"That's what you were doing in 8th grade" -Stevie LMAO
Great video and learning a lot from your videos 😊
Jimmy those are the nuts
Crazy to think you guys are basically building the engine I got in my gs 300 in the states I’d get pulled over so quick if it was cammed tho 😢😂 would sounds insane

The Spoon x Jim bromance is everything

You can "stake" the leaky valve, it may seal back up.
Fire upload. Although I don’t understand why you didn’t replace the head gasket at that point. Unless it was already new but idk
Get the mule...up and running youngster..🤙🤙🤙👊🤛👌👌👌👌
Jimmy do a shop tour and update on all cars. Some fan mail also
Probably should have done the head gasket while you were in there… Either way you boys know what you’re doing 👍 Can’t wait to see this thing up and running!!
Lmaoo word shit is 1 million years old
Rust in the cylinder + MLS gasket
What could go wrong..
Make sure the washers are right side up. Beveled side up. Also never saw anyone do it like this.
Would have loved to see a dyno graph of before and after the cam upgrade

I knew about this trick, and I was actually expecting them to do it until they whipped out the air compressor
Papa Jim killin it
Somebody was building the "supra-supra" that ment to be the mk5 supra😅.
Love the toyota z4 also🤪, as long it has wheels, i'm good with it💨💨🙌
Grtz and love from belgium.

Jimmy wearing a divine hoodie😫😫
Thought i seeing things, but that was Andy at the start 😂
Let's have a video on fixing the Dyno!
Right right right right right right right right right right right right right
Jimmy you're a wizard
next time you do a head and are swapping spring if you set the keepers in the retainer lay a plastic bag pieace over it press down keeper go in the right place by themselves
i can see a Streethunter kit happening soon
1 - Engine runs perfect
2 - Throws a lot of parts
3 - Engine blows
4 - Like comment subscribe and stay tuned...
🤣
Great job Boyz 👏
No measuring the buckets for valve clearance? 👀😅
The rubber keeps breaking for you Jimmy 😂
I am very surprised that uprated valves springs don’t come supplied with new uprated valve keepers ! It’s a bad day if any of them break 😢
Some do. Titanium keepers are common.
id of ported polished decked block and head and did a valve job wit ned head gasket they corrode and shit to
it's always worth waiting a whole day for a new video 🔰
Consistently great content. Y’all are the best!!!
This was good for me I’m lookin into a is300 n want to start from rock
While you're waiting on parts for projects. You could be calibrating your dyno!
A 700hp 2JZ BRZ sounds like a blast honestly. It should be named 2JBRZ
im lovin the build content keep it coming
Cant wait to hear how the engine wil run with these cams of it sounds good i wil defenitly go for the same in my aristo👌👌
Gonna make some jam
There is nothing in this world purer than an un opened 2JZ
As someone who has personally built many engines. I agree you can stud drop it and be fine. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. I mean how much does a head gasket cost just for peace of mind haha
Again I say , the most important tool in the shop is Spoon!! Respect 🫡 Austin your music editing is Perfecto !!
