And yeah, the lorry driver made a mistake when he started moving. He had the STOP sign- he stopped. He had the mirror on the road to check for cars. He probably checked and started moving, but you just appeared when he thought that the road was clear. Stay safe! =)

Weight limits preventing you having the panoramic roof and the large battery basically rules out this as a compact fun family car for holiday trips. EV's seem to be trending to larger cars for family's and small cars for young people which is questionable given the amount of power a base EV will have in future compared to the first car of a young person currently.
Impressive car considering how boring the ID.3 is but the AC/ volume controls EV infotainment letting it down along with the capacitive buttons on the wheel.

This seems to be the kind of car I'm looking for, a well specced compact car with decent performance, I don't really need it to be very sporty. Looks nice too. A lot of the features on the Cupra you only get if you go for a much larger car right now, most of the compact EVs available are comparatively "feature-poor", on some of them even a reverse camera is a pricy extra. The Born is even a good bit cheaper than a similarly specced ID.3 here in Norway. I was a bit unsure about the colors but the vapor grey looks a lot better in this video than in the promo pictures, so that will probably be the color I go for.

I have ordered a Cupra Born here in Sydney, Australia. I am looking forwards to it arriving whenever that happens. I am a little disappointed that we won’t get the same spec Cupra cars as our British and European friends. Missing in our Version 3 equivalent model is the heads up displays, GPS module, glass roof and more. I’ve ordered the performance and interior package/upgrades so feel a little short changed with the above missing. With Tesla’s price cuts it’s tempting to just get a Tesla model three which are a dime a dozen here now. So I’m going for style, an engaging driving experience and Spanish tuning and flair.

Great review again, right on the spot!! I happen to be seriously considering of ordering one, I drove it and cannot agree more on the pluses and minuses, actually and strangely enough there were only two minuses as also mentioned on this review. First and most importantly the feel of the brakes which sometimes give you the impression that they don't work well, feels like you are pushing the pedal but you cannot get the braking you expect and you are about to crash!!! I dont know why but luckily it doesn't happen all the time, I guess its a matter of familiarisation and adjustment, or a least I hope so. Secondly that loud sound of the turn signals, I cant see a reason of them being so loud, but I guess its only a matter of getting used to it! Seriously now, I think I will order it tomorrow! On some markets , like US, you need to have the stop light, and turn signals visible even if the trunk is open. That is why they left the lights on the body, not on the trunk door.
All the haptic buttons are crap. Just a big pile of cost saving. The two window buttons too, the hard plastics... it's all money. We are not customers to them any more, we are just piggy banks. They are giving more money for the stupid marketing department than the cars themselves. I refuse to pay the marketing pencil pushers and on the other hand the hard working people that really produce are left to deal with VW quality issues. Fire some 100 people from the marketing, give us back the real buttons and knobs, put in some quality and leave the product to sell by itself. Like the good old days.

car manufacturers invest so much money in finding the "right" sound for their turning indicators, while I feel most drivers just want that sound to be as silent as possible (especially in EV's it can be really disturbing). Why don't most manufacturers offer the option of controlling the volume (some do), or even get rid of it completely? You have arrows on your screen, so you don't have to hear the sound to know the indicators are on.

I personally think it is sad that MEB vehicles does not have higher HP models. In my mind it is not hard and very expensive to build stronger motors. E.g. this one has 231 hp, Tesla Model 3 SR+ 320, Performance 430 hp.
Id.4 gtx has 295 hp, which starts to be OK, but still, it feels that they have missed an EV opportunity.

The stated charging performance is 5-80% in 35 minutes on a 58(62) battery. So 75% of 58 is 43.5 so in 35 minutes it needs to average 75kwh over that range. The best I’ve ever achieved was 72 on ionity once - all this has been scheduled out to Listers and VWs solicitors in detail and none of my figures have ever been challenged at all! Not anything. Not one charge, one number: nothing. It simply doesn’t perform ever at that stated level. In contrast my BMW i4 just hits the numbers ever single time

I would love the 77kw performance boost model in the USA, styling is great, much better than the VW.

All I have ever had to do with my many cars of various brands in recent years with the aircon is to choose a temp [usually 21c] and press Auto; then it's set and forget, never to be touched again. So I don't care about the controls because I don't touch them.

After looking at the specs it's actually a pretty ordinary car, especially in Australia it's over $50,000aud, it weighs almost 2000kg and can only go 250km evs will never compete with gasoline engines

Has Volkswagen officially commented the wide spread criticism for the infotainment and useless buttons? Many reviewers and users complain.

was exited for this car until they showed the infotainment, why do VAG stand by making infotainment with less performance than a midrange phone from 6+ years ago?

I have an ID3 and the infotainment is fine. If I was buying a tablet maybe I’d think it’s a bit laggy but it’s a car and you spend more than 99.9% of the time not touching the screen (and if you do, maybe you shouldn’t be driving). So it’s no issue, Apple CarPlay is excellent and you can navigate including charging via Waypoints using ABRP - (you can even have live data if you buy a dongle). There really is no issue with it since V2.1 (current is V2.3). If you want to pick on anything - the app is rubbish.

The id3 and the born give me more the vibe of a practical hatchback like the golf plus than a hot hatch. Also, I was expecting something more from Cupra than a higher trim id3.

I am 194cm or 6'4". I think the seat upgrade makes the seats slightly higher positioned. There is around 2 centimeters of spare headroom in the backseats of my Born.

The interior in the cupra born definitely looks better than the id3’s but I’m not sure about that rear bumper design 🤔 I’ve got an id3 on order it’s not as exciting looking but still a good EV 🔋

Great to see EVs bring back rear wheel drive. If EV makers stick with this, adding "Cupra modes" and the like, enthusiasts will be drawn to these cars. (And yes Tesla's are fast - much faster than this. But they're a bit... sterile.)

Every car reviewer that I have watched in YT hates the capacitive bs buttons/controls. So why do car manufacturers still incorporate them??? BMW, VW group, Peugeot... Kudos to Mazda by the way for still resisting.

Thomas, Thanks for the great detailed review. ID3 have an optional sports suspension(lowered by 15 mm) and progressive steering. With this options, do you think ID3 can also achieve the same level sportiness compared to cupra born?
