I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I bought a wide ratio and rebuild kit from you for my C6 19-20 years ago (before you moved to Texas). You also rebuilt the factory 10” converter (351CJ). Trans and converter are still doing great.
Thanks Jay . Summed up the C4 very well. They have their limit but built right & treated right they last well Love the C4 & C6 content . Still very popular here in Australia . Looking forward to getting the C4 valvebody kits I've ordered :)
Appreciate you, your work\knowledge and your time. Just got some parts from you for my C6 build in the 79' Bronco. Also have a 65' Mustang with a C4, so interested to see the upcoming C4 series. Keep the C6 stuff coming as well. As you have time. I know how it is to have lots of work, so again, we appreciate you brother.
G'day Jay Rob here from Australia. Looking forward to this series for the C4. I bought a DIY transbrake valve body kit from you, great bit of gear! Auto is built, and I'm looking forward to testing it out... And really looking forward to hold onto that tbrake button and sending it 😅
Great Videos Jay. Thank you for taking your time to produce these. I would LOVE to see some tips on the old Cruise-O-Matics. NO transmission shops will touch them anymore. :(
I mainly build 3 speed Chryslers for drag racing and consider the 904 one of the quickest automatic transmissions that was mass produced. The design carried over to stock, super stock and comp eliminator categories with 904 internals being put into 727s, T350, etc. I consider the C4 a great, lightweight and very quick transmission and rank it up there with the 904. I am of the same thinking, and only recommend the C4 for lighter, naturally aspirated small blocks making 800-1000hp. And we've published that information on our website for years.
302 DOWN, C-4 WAS A GREAT TRANS, CHEAP TO REBUILD AND EASY TO MAKE SHIFT GOOD. NEVER BROKE ONE DRAG RACING EVEN IN 351W PINTOS WITH 400HP. 351 UP IS C-6 TIME. A GUY FROM COTTMAN HAD AN AWSOME C-4 BEHIND A 70 351C THAT NAILED SECOND LIKE A STICK BACK IN THE 80S. GOOD TRANS!
In the junk pile is a C5 out of 1986 3.8L Cougar. I don't hear too much about this box, but I am of the impression that the oiling system and other parts are updated from the C4, and thus would be a better choice. I believe that the 3.8 V6 bell bolt pattern is the same as the pushrod 302/351W, so it should be easy to swap in. Feedback is appreciated.
I have a stock 67 mustang with the stock 289. C4 transmission. All original to the car. It has 72,770 original miles. Just had the transmission serviced due to a vibration. I found that the tail shaft bushing was bad. So it was replaced along with the seal. And completely serviced. I still have a vibration after the service. It's intermittent. But constant. The speed of the vibration does not change, when the speed of the car changes. And it doesn't matter if I'm doing 30 moh, or 80 mph. Could this be a transmission issue? Or transmission mount possibly?
Vibrations are tough. If it does not change driveshaft speed I'm going to assume it changes with engine rpm? I suppose it's possible other bushings are worn in the trans or maybe a bad harmonic balancer. This is not really a question I can be much help with.
New subscriber from Motown/Dearborn. Had to sub after The Speedmaster fraud. Running a built 460 BBF and a built Manual Valve body C-6. Have an oil cooler but that dang C-6 runs on the hot side.
I have a 351w bored .40 over afr 185 heads and big mother thumper can I just want a cruiser would u recommend a c4 for that??? Or another trans??? It’s for 68 cougar?
Im not an expert on them but I have built them in the past. Its a good unit once the intermediate sprag is updated. I used to make a wide ratio gear kit from 700R4 gears back in the day.
I don't doubt your knowledge, but you talk around the directness that some people need The right application removes Frustration more than anything. Accept knowledge.
I wish you would stress application. I do air conditioning. And I have people put 5 ton units on a 3 ton house and they just throw stuff at it when you don't need it Say understand the application for what you're doing or what you wanna do.
What do you think about a converter dump valve on a C4 ? I don't know anybody that has one for it but would it be a bad idea to make one for it? I think it would work good on turbo 4 cylinder to get a little more stall speed.
I love C4s. Can't wait for your series. Thanks.
Thanks for watching

I always loved the C4 and the C6

Your welcome. I may do some com stuff in the future. I don't build a whole lot of them these days.
Thanks for your thoughts. Great videos.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the C4 information. Could you do a video comparing the C6 to the TH400?
That is a good idea. Ill put that on the list.

Hi Jay, Great series. I have one of your C4 valve bodies ( down here in New Zealand). Regularly check you shop for build parts. Keep them coming.
Thank you. We appreciate the business.
I appreciate you doing these videos maybe I can learn something
Thanks for watching

Good trans especially considering its size. Thanks for the comments.

The oiling system is upgraded already but I don't like what they did with the forward drum and the valve body
@@BroaderPerformance So what can be swapped in to remedy that? Thanks.

Thank you and welcome. Maybe it's the converter of an oil flow issue.
What box store transmission fluid do you recommend on a rebuild C4 ?
I have been just recommending the Dexron III fluid. I dont have a brand preference.
So if I’m shooting for building a 302 stoker to get 400 and 400 a decently built c4 should be fine
Yes I have had good luck with them at that level.
Rebuilt C6 behind a 351W skips 2nd in drive, manual shifting everything works as should. Any ideas?
Try adjusting the modulator first.

C4 should be fine. If you want to upgrade to an overdrive you could also consider a 4R70W.
What are your thoughts on TH350?

So much to cover. There will be more coverage in the future on this. This was just the opener.
Please build mine on video!!!lol
Hard to do without help these days but I'll do what I can.

It is in my plan to make a valve body that you can control converter oil.
