Great video. I'm always in awe of this stuff. I've seen it done a bunch of times bands I've been in have opened for Kiss , Queensryche, etc & I've always hung back stage.
I used to do permanent install AV, PAs, and line arrays at churches and venues and all. I cant imagine hanging, setting up, breaking down, and packing up EVERY DAMN DAY.
my dad linked me this because i'm working in live audio (can't quite consider myself an engineer yet lol) and knew i'd be interested even though he didn't understand it :') i got to work Styx as a stagehand back in 2022 and they were so great to work with!
Exactly ultimately computers are not listening to music, humans do 😊 Technical stuff is needed but should not be leading. And finally someone who understands that phase and polarity are the same thing 😊
Was this filmed in Burgettstown, pa it looks like The starlake amphitheatre ive been to MANY concerts their in fact i attended foreigner and styx their and we were setting about half way back stage center and the sound was A-MAZ-ING great job guys when they played "Jukebox Hero" i was in eigth grade all over again!
@@JeremyBercow 12” drivers. No go. Looking for the punch of the 15” to bridge the low mids to the subs for bass guitar and kick drum/floor toms. V25: Top end has more fidelity, less processing needed, and more power handling. More flexible deployment than L series when we need to break up the PA and cover unconventional venues. You and I both know the L series was based on the “average” or “typical” hang. Of which, many times we aren’t doing on our tour. I mix in front of all the PA’s out there with this band throughout this last decade (not an exaggeration) and I choose this PA for this band for a reason. There is no perfect PA out there because we all need to choose the PA that works for the venues we are playing on the itinerary, our mixing style, and the band’s style/genre themselves. Just as I’ve had conversations with another engineer I toured with, “Do you like chocolate or vanilla ice cream with that?” Ford or Chevy.
I’m tired of people saying there’s a “best sound system” for live concerts. As an audience member I’ve had great experiences with high end JBL stuff like this, as well as L-acoustics, D&B, Meyer, Adamson, Clair, you name it. I’ve also had terrible experiences with every brand mentioned up there. (Except maybe D&B, but still I’ve heard some that are better than others.) As it is, the sound you hear out there really depends on the sound engineer. Everything can sound bad if garbage is put into it, especially these high-end, revealing sound systems. And I won’t deny each brand definitely has its own character to the sound. From my experience, JBL VTX has a clear crisp top end and deep bass (but sometimes presents as harsh), L-acoustics has a clear coherent midrange and midbass, (but sometimes the low bass gets lost), D&B stuff has a warm pleasing sound with lots of bass (but can sound a bit honky in the treble), Meyer and Adamson have a really detailed flat sound with incredible vocals but Meyer bass is tighter where Adamson bass is flatter and deeper, (both can sound harsh in the wrong hands), and Clair just has has a powerful sound to it: good for classic rock acts (but maybe lacks midbass.)
Yep agreed, I have heard a lot of jbl rigs and k2 or l-isa. And the l,acoustics rigs blow everything else out of the water. STM is nice as well in the right hands
Too many speakers, who decided that it is best to destroy fan’s ear drums ?? Never understood this stupid practice of concerts pushing out 135 ear crushing decibels. With the quality of sound systems these days, no need to kill our ear drums eh ??

Such a good day, and always a pleasure hanging with the Styx folks! Can’t wait to dive into the other vids 🤩
👆This guy edited the video btw.
I think it looks incredible. If you agree he is why.

That’s the part that blows my mind. I know there are bigger shows. But, they aren’t a huge crew.
@@RecordingStudioLoser I guess with the right set up gear and some practice it gets pretty quick.

What venue?
Great video, boys!!

Music sound good = correct.
Music sound bad = incorrect.
People forget to keep the main thing the main thing!
Just saw this in Indianapolis. Awesome show!!
That’s where we were!

It’s part of that same circuit of amphitheaters that were built in the early 90s. This is north of Indianapolis.
Ruoff Center, was originally called Deer Creek when it opened, owned by one family then they sold it. North side of Indianapolis.
What jbl series are the mains??
JBL VTX V25-II-CS
Summer fest Milwaukee Lakefront
What power amps are they using?
The whole rig is Crown I-Tech 12000HD powered.
Ruoff only holds max 25k people.
Get some L-Acoustics boxes. It'll smoke that old dog
Nah, Dawg. K1 is actually older. And heavier. And the 1.6kHz standing wave in the waveguide is still an issue.
That’s why there is a K2 or an L-series. Makes that rig look like a dodgy disco

Background music is stupid and distracting.

Who hurt you.
More speakers doesn't mean louder. It means more efficient. The volume could be a whisper on those boxes.
