I figured the reason for the hammer gun's existence is due to Zeon ammo supplies, since it's close to the end of the war and zeon no longer has great logistics and production facilities they just made the hammer gun to save on ammunition and materials since this thing I assume is just a catapult system in the shape of a gun and why they chose the gundam/hyper hammer was because the few times Zeon soldiers have encountered the weapon it did absurd amounts of damage for what was basically and metal ball with spikes (then eventually some jet boosters) and had some range to it as well... or you know some Zeon higher up was doing to much spice/crack/universal century equivalent to Pervitin
If is made mostly for inclosed spaces, the Gasshia may be fairly good. For inclosed spaces I think about corridors inside colonies or big cities with tall buildings and skyscrapers: all enviroment with long but narrow (narrow for a MS anyway) spaces, where there is little to none space to avoid fire by strafing laterally and you have to shoot in straight in front of you. All Gasshia weapons seems to be designed to take advantage of that, included the claws (because are mainly stabbing weapons, ideal in narrow spaces). However is pretty situational. Too much situational. I have the suspect that the team of engineers responsible for the Gasshia made it just to show to the high branches that they were doing something. In desperate situations like Zeon near the OYW's end, one of the first thing is to cut off even the slightest unnecessary elements, so team without any true useful project was likely to be "fired" in order to avoid wasting the few precious resources left. So that team prolly was able to silver-tongue Zeon's Military to believe the Gasshia as a worthy project just to keep their job XD Sorry if my english is maybe not good enough to explain the idea better than this.
like i said the higher up writes there checks so the zeon engineers do what they are told lol but the gasshia overall seems to specific and feels like a 1 trick pony cool on paper but fits a niche role
i cannot uderstand why we never see a Zeon Amphibian that has a beam sabre mode for its palm beam cannon. That would be much deadlier and useful for melee combat after beam sabres became common.
My theory is that some people thought the Z'Gok was very successful as an amphibious mobile suit, so maybe with some tweak and alteration, it could dominate the surface and space as well!
I can easily see some higher up at zeon seeing how good the zgok is and thinking, "It's made for water and good in water, so if made for space, it must be good." Than pushing it to development
If the mecha has any sort of ECM/sensor package, it could be the second pilot is to man those and focus on monitoring. Sort of like the hover trucks in 8th MS Team which also used ground sensors. If you take ground sensor equipment and put it together with rockets and a big, bashy hammer gun, maybe the mobile suit is designed for demolition?
I didnt think of that thank you that makes much more sense now for the co pilot. Like the zaku worker i can easily see the gasshia being refurbished into somthing for demo prob be much more effective than as a ms
The Hammer Gun looks perfectly normal. I think if it was specifically designed for the Gasshia, it'd look the part, only thig out of the ordiary is the handle seems a bit thicker than usual. I think the Gasshia's iron nails are just more dexterous than they look and there at least some other Zeon weapons it can hold and operate relatively well.
Well, it's related to Amphibious MS so it's fairplay in regards to the amphibious analysis! Regarding that, if there's an amphibious ms that isn't too well known how about the Dom Mermaid? Specifically made to travel across water surfaces.
Dom mermaid is funny since it's just a Dom with a hover backpack on it similar to the gm slope or zaku marine type which are just regular ms with scuba gear. Seems interesting ad a concept I wonder if they tried making a gelgoog amphibious
@@slothcakes As far as I know, they never did. There are the Gelgoog Marine's but we all know they aren't in the sense of being amphibious suits and I never found an amphibious variation of it.

Looks so it can also use throwable so they have some dexterity to them. Would like to test it's limits and see it try to use a anti ship rifle

The hammergun seems inferior to the Gundam hammer in space because of its massive recoil whereas the gundam hammer is mostly self propelled.
The only way to stop a good guy with a Gundam hammer is a bad guy with a Gundam hammer! (Or y'know literally any other weapon)
