    Fixing to have to put a switch in my 94 Z28, someone bypassed mine and the key has no chip. My question is...after you put a new switch in with the chip in the key does your security light go off??

    So I used your video and it helped me out a ton. Now then, I took a switch from my old 92 camaro and put it in my 91 Z28 and it still won't start. Do I have to get the switch to match the resistance of the car or should it work with my old key?

    A string attached to the wire to pull the new wire thru is smart

    In theory , fishing the wire down the steering column sounded good but i don't think it's possible now that i've had a closer look at things, glad in my case i didn;t have to do it

    would this fix the problem where you put the key in and the SECURITY light blinks forever? because I'll wait for mine to stop blinking but it never did, I sat for like half hour and it still did this.

      I don't know for sure, my security system is bypassed, the car starts now with a key with no chip, if you can figure out how to bypass and disable it then it should stop flashing, mine was already bypassed when I bought the car and i actually replaced the whole steering column which is easier than replacing the tumbler

    So the orange wire. You don’t have the connect it down the end of the shaft or you do?

    I have a question, for one reason or another my steering wheel is 90 degrees misaligned... knowing what you know, is it possible for me to remove the steering wheel and reinstall it 90 degrees (or near enough) offset?

      @MrReg777  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Was it like that when you bought the car? you will prob have to un-attach it from the rack, turn the steering wheel to the correct position and reattach it to the rack, not a hard job, an hour maybe

      R J sorry, got it figured out.. I had swapped out the old intermediate steering shaft with the ls1 steering shaft but the 2 shafts differ... I separated the shaft, re clocked it and all is fixed..

      +R Jones but it is in the wiring under the dash, there's an orange wire that runs from the ignition , down the steering column and that is where mine is dissconnected

    I just had to fix some stuff and took the ignition out. I was wondering what I installed wrong because now it only turns to koeo. it doesn't turn farther to actually turn the car on. and you skipped that part lol. anything special that has to be installed right for it to work.

    • @MrReg777
      @MrReg777  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Aaron Taylor sounds like the tumbler is not in correctly, make sure also the airbag and all it's pieces are removed and installed correctly or it will go off on you

    • @aarontaylor810
      @aarontaylor810 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +R Jones thanks for the reply. yeah I got it fixed right after I commented. I used pliers yo turn it all the way over then reinstalled the ignition cylinder. with it turnt all the way towards koeo. now works perfectly. and yeah I was familiar with the whole process except the ignition part lol. yeah with the air bags I act like a damn eod specialist.

      Awesome dude, good to hear a "success" story, I actually have to put in a whole new steering column, on the plus side it's easier than putting a new ignition switch in

    • @aarontaylor810

      R Jones lol what happened to yours

    • @MrReg777
      @MrReg777  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      there's a rod that goes down through the steering column that pushes on a switch at the bottom of the column which in turn engages the starter ... well that rod is broken, if you're carful turning the key the car will start but if that rod get's jammed , you have to pull the steering column off, I've done it so many times , I'm fast at it now

    I need to bypass my vats on a 1999 firebird till I can find the other trouble spot in my wires mess and get a new key made... might even need a whole ignition switch. If anyone knows how to do it temperory till I can rule that out and charge the battery it would be helpful. The car is several hundred feet from any power source and I don't have a generator to run the battery charger or any diagnostic equipment like a computer or sun machine.

    • @MrReg777
      @MrReg777  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i would first remove the battery and bring it close to a charging system, run the charger on a slow charge (you can charge it quickly but it's hard on the cells). My vats system has been bypassed by a previous owner and i'm not quite sure how they did it but i do know the vats system is on an orange wire and mine is not connected at the base of the steering column, I ended up replacing the whole steering column which was actually cheaper than buying the ignition tumbler and having a key made, it was also easier to replace the whole column that the ignition itself, hope this helps

    • @hearsejr
      @hearsejr 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I ended up selling it. It turned out the wires in the steering column was bad and shorted out causing it to burn up some stuff under the dash. The new owner spent $1000 so far just getting used parts.

    Hey man, idk if you’ll see this but I need help taking the steering wheel off

    • @MrReg777
      @MrReg777  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      you're going to need the proper steering wheel puller, you can buy the kit online or from an auto parts store

    • @MrReg777
      @MrReg777  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      but be extremely careful pulling the air bag shit out of the steering column, there's a very fine wire in that yellow round thingy that will easily break and UNHOOK THE BATTERY first

    I noticed your airbag light stays on, my Camaro does the same, any ideas on how to repair that?

    • @MrReg777
      @MrReg777  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      my airbag light is on because i never reconnected it because i removed a module (yellow) from the steering column and in that module there are hair like wires that is broken will cause the bag to deploy, i broke those wires, if you did the same you may have to replace the module (yellow) with a new one
