To anyone who has done this VATS bypass already and your car suddenly randomly wont start, check the fuses in the fuse box below the steering wheel. You need to use a multimeter because visually inspecting a fuse doesnt always work. I did the VATS bypass and one day my car just did not want to start. I used a multimeter on every single fuse till I found one that was not reading, ( the # 6 fuse was the culprit!) so I popped it out, replaced it and the car started right up. I hope this helps anyone out there who is frustrated with a "No start" condition, as I was. Dont give up!

Sir, you don’t know how much this helped me I own a 1998 Cadillac El Dorado and all of a sudden my car started saying starter disabled remove key and I was told it’s my VA system that it doesn’t recognize it. I have the spare key that I have and when I brought the car sir, you help me out so much. I am now able to drive my car, I just have to get this done. I’ve been looking all over. TH-cam your video was the one that explained it the best and actually showed how to do it.

If you still have your original key like me, all you have to do is solder the wires to the actual key. The key has the resistor built in so I just connected the wires to both sides of the little chip. If u can’t solder hot glue it or super glue it then I put a new lock cylinder in with new key and works every time lol. I couldn’t find any resistors at a store near me and could wait for them to ship so this worked perfect for me.

I've found that cooling down the key helped me out when the VATS system reared its ugly head. Used to carry a can of compressed air and held it upside down to spray key. Eventually found a bypass piece on E-bay that was plug and play. No cutting of wires.

I bypassed mine in a much easier way. The only thing the vats does is allow 12v to go from the neutral safety switch to the starter by opening a relay that is near the fuse panel. Just pull the relay and jump the 2 heavier gauge wires. Then the vats has no control over the starting.

you can, it's just way more expensive than a $5 pack of resistors.
