- In this video I try and avoid my hang ups with typical washes by mixing up my own washes + mediums. One is a large vat that I just dunk models into, and the other is a thicker application that I smear on and wipe away, similar to an enamel or oil wash but acrylic.

You remain the most helpful painting channel for me as an entry-level miniature painter looker to better understand the hobby! Your miniatures are 10/10, but explained in such a way that's so easy someone who has virtually no idea about the technical side of things can just pick them up and start following along.
thanks so much, really appreciate you saying so. also super glad you find the videos so useful!
Amazing video and great camera shots. I love the process and use oils mainly, but I’m glad this technique can be accomplished with acrylics too!
thank you! glad you liked the video
Great video, it's always fun to see experimentation and the end result looks great.
It feels like taking generic hobbies supplies and figuring out how to use them with miniatures is becoming a lost art because we're so spoiled by options these days. On that note, the thicker mix sounds very much like NEWSH from Monument Hobbies which is supposed to recreate the ability of oils and enamels to be rubbed away before it dries.
thanks! I actually just watched the artis opus video about the new medium from monument, looks very cool. I think it might be more practical for some people to just buy that but also think being able to mix up something similar on your own is super cool and also cheaper in the long run. thanks for watching!
to avoid fuzz, you can use foam or non-woven swabs, they aren't that expensive (1-15c a piece, i.e. 1-15 bucks for a 100 pack depending on the shape and size), last long (basically since you don't care about them being sterile/100% dust free, you can keep the same for the whole session, just washing in between.) and they don't produce noticeable amounts of fuzz.
also you can find shapes ranging from fine point to 2x3cm paddles.
sounds good, I'll have to check them out!
Haven’t used washes for more than two years and I like it much more when I just put on the shading myself. It allows me to control the miniature instead of being controlled by the wash
ya I feel the same way, thanks for watching!
I came from gunpla first so I'm only really used to using washes like tamiya panel accent and only for doing panel lines etc. I'm experimenting with all over washes for minis but yeah it does dull it down and require you to do highlights again. I generally now just use it to add shadows on a white prime before using speed paints or in a controlled way with a brush just in the recesses unless it's got scales or some other crazy texture that plays real nice.
Great channel too dude, very chill presentation which I really appreciate. Different angles and ideas then what I see from most other channels too.
Tamiya panel liner does look pretty cool. Also like the idea of using the washes on a white prime.
thanks for watching! glad you’re liking the channel
Looks cool.
thanks!
Tbh it's not user error, that's what washes do haha. People usually will paint ANOTHER base layer or their highlights over the washes.
I don't post alot of videos but if ya take the vallejo dipping sauce and run it through the airbrush ya get a cool effect. Doing a grimdark stormcast.
Have you tried Pro Acryl Newsh? He has some videos showing how to use it and it does basically the same thing. Oh and it's acrylic based not enamel or oil.
was gonna suggest that myself XD
forbidden chocy milk
don’t drink it!!!
Amazing! ❤
thank you!
Try recess shading instead of washing to minimize clean up. They came out great!
Ya I definitely think that's the move, thanks!
I prefer oil washes, same idea but more working time and control. Worse fumes mind you.
Ya they seem great and I definitely wanna try them out, just a little cautious to do it in my apartment. Thanks for watching!
@@ZanzibrushYes, the fumes can be a concern depending on how sensitive you are (and if there's kids, pets around too!) I find a quality artist white spirit isn't too noxious and I work with a window open generally.
Is that a Danish flag?
it sure is!

You are not supposed to put agrax over everything lmao. There washes of various colors. Obvious skill issue
Don't tell people what they are "supposed" to do with THEIR models.... obvious mine your own business issue
@@IntrovertedWARGAMER It's as if you are arguing on how you are not supposed to hit the hammer on the nail head. Stupid ass comment from a low test individual.
Ya definitely think there’s various degrees of how to approach washing. I assume you’re talking about the example model I show in the intro, which was cherry picked to illustrate what I was talking about. All the base coats were warm reds or browns which goes well with agrax earth shade so why not put it over everything, especially when going for speed.
I feel like if I’m gonna go ahead and put a couple different colors of wash on choice areas I’d rather just paint it, but that’s totally personal choice.
But ya, definitely think it was more user error like I said in the video :)
thanks for watching!
