    Best understanding video for my issue with my foot

  • @deankay4434

    I feel like leather patches in areas across both feet. I tried orthotics but it hurt more. This maybe a result of 5 years running long distances in converse tennis shoes as this was all they offered. I ran 13 miles in the AM at 6 minutes per mile, then sprints after school. Same if not more in college and our team won first in the nation. But I would cover a 5 mile course in 25 minutes. 1 mile at 4:10, 1/2 mile at 1.57. Now, they changed to meters decades ago, but in my 60's I find this foot issue. Odd or normal. Note: it takes 20 years to loose 2-3 rows of calluses on my hands after fixing cars for 40+ years. Thanks for the info in your video, but 7 old stress fractures of the long bones in left foot, 9 stress fractures in the right. Complex? Yes. Feels like small stones of no feeling but no pain! Odd? Thanks if you reply. DK Omaha.

    I've got one in my left foot, around the area in between the third metatarsal bone and the start of its phalanx; not really on the bottom of the arch but I guess it is still a fibroma. The symptoms and characteristics are similar, as on from what you say. What made me discover it, aside from the occasional pain when walking bare feet, was the presence of another one on the third phalanx side of my middle finger, left hand. It's been more than two years since I noticed it, and it was originally not on the side but on the palm area of the finger. It receded for some time and reappeared in the same position but rotated of 90°, curious.. It is less prone to stress being on the side now, but it keeps growing even if slowly. It is visibly far more easy to be removed surgically than the one in my foot as I can feel quite clearly its contour. I have one or two minuscule ones on the front of my, still, left leg - in the thin front section, half way the length of the Tibia, therefore very easy to spot even if they are just a couple of mm in diameter (they have been there 10 or more years now without any change). I've been abstaining from taking action since I was hoping to find a less invasive solution. I'm more concerned with the one in the foot though. Any thoughts?

      +dRyW This is one of those things that is just not possible to diagnose via the internet. Since you are having issues in multiple areas of your body then start with your family doctor. For best treatment of the lump on the foot primarily see a good podiatrist. Good luck!

    What if they’re higher up on the arch, closer up to the ankle?

    Ok can u tell me since on my feet there are like 7 small tiny bumps, is that the same as the thing ur talking about because I looked up common symptoms and most of them do not fit me

    • @Footankle
      @Footankle  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually plantar fibromas are pretty large bumps, but without seeing your foot there is no way to diagnose what the 7 tiny bumps might be. I suggest finding a podiatrist in your area. We have listed on our website podiatrists in other parts of the United States who we feel offer very good care. You can find that list here: www.footankle.com/patients/podiatrists-outside-washington/

    Thank you for the conservative approach. A lot of the other info points to some sort of invasive procedure. For me, there's no worry about a falling arch considering I was born with flat feet. This is just super uncomfortable. Is this similar to a ganglion cyst? I've had one on my hand before but this is the first time anything like this has happened to my foot.

    • @Footankle
      @Footankle  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, a ganglion is a fluid filled cyst while a fibroma is solid. A similar condition on the hand is called Dupuytren's Contracture

    I hope you offer Vitrase injections to your patients. It's the only thing that is helping me - the pain had been excrutiating until I did these enzyme injections. It works pretty quickly too!

      The evidence for the enzyme injections is weak. We have done them and occasionally they work, but certainly not predictably. I'm glad to hear they worked for you.

    • @Footankle
      @Footankle  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no evidence that it would help, but that could just be because no one has done the research. There probably no chance it would hurt. I think it is worth trying.

    I have a podiatrist appointment tomorrow because I have lumps on the arches of both feet. I’m quite certain that these are plantar fibroma, first discovered over 2 years ago. The pain is worst when I get out of bed, but it becomes hardly noticeable as the day goes on. Is it logical to doubt a serious or malignant tumor, as it occurs in the same place on both feet?

      For now I'm using 2 or 3 insoles to survive the work days...
      How would you suggest someone correctly map out the spots to cut out of the inserts.

    I broke my 2nd and 3rd metatarsal on my left foot 10 years ago and my dr just let it heal itself. It has caused a misaligned bone on the top of my foot which gives me foot pain. Now I have a plantar fibroma on the bottom of that foot now. Could it be connected?

    • @Footankle
      @Footankle  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mary. There are a number of potential causes. One of the most common would be "lower extremity edema" or swelling - which itself can have many causes. This is really something that is far too involved to be solved online and should be worked up in person by a doctor. I would recommend you see a podiatrist in your area or your primary care physician.

    The link you shared has good info on orthotics and treatments. It seems there’s no new research on this ailment. Recently people are seeking radiation to target the fibromas. Every other treatment seems debatable. Even the radiation is sometimes ineffective.

      I had one on each foot since I was 30 years old, when I first noticed them. They were “pea-sized”. I have been a waiter at Disney World for 38 years. I am now 54. This year, the fibromas began to hurt and enlarge. I also got additional ones on each foot and overall thickening of fascia around/near original fibromas that are now marble sized. I noticed them changing and painful overnight after a shift of waiting tables. I noticed this in shower while flat footed. I have extreme plantar fasciitis pain symptoms as well as very tender and inflamed fibromas. I went to podiatrist and am getting custom orthoctics made to accommodate fibromas. This takes 4 weeks to be made, then 4-6 weeks to break them in at work.
      Fibromas became irritated due to falling arches from waiting tables so many years. Ive bought OTC arch support orthoctics & used LTD tape to secure soft padding on OTC orthoctics, similar to round pads for corns or bone spurs to add to shoes. You can find trucks on how to add them on you tube for relief until orthoctics arrive. You must stretch out fascia from thigh to calve to foot for relief and help!!!

    Some good info, HOWEVER, you've left out doing arch and foot exercises. This could possibly solve the problem or reduce it, rather than simply buying expensive orthotics that can make the foot muscles even weaker by being a crutch. Foot doctors who leave out foot rehab exercises are truly doing a disservice to their patients, though fattening their wallets.

    • @Footankle
      @Footankle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm a huge advocate of foot strengthening, but unfortunately there is no evidence that it would help plantar fibromas. Plantar fasciitis or plantar fasciosis strengthening has potential to help, but not likely for fibromas.
