It bugs me that they put the A Train accident in the trailer. Yeah, it's the primary motivation of one of our main characters but I feel like it has diluted how shocking that moment is a little. I love Abi's unspoiled reaction.

Everything about that moment was clearly made with 'shock value' in mind, so to have it in the trailer kinda baffles me. Thankfully, I never watched the trailer so my jaw punched through the floor when I saw it, leaving me as stunned as Hughie(?).

That's exactly it. THE HEROES ARE THE VILLAINS. I mean obviously, some of them are genuine, good people (like Annie/Starlight), but most of them are corrupt and completely immoral.

When you run while turning a corner you may bump into someone else and at most get a scratch, meanwhile a sup bumps into another person and they kill it. It's the same screw up, the end result is just way worse because of the superpowers. I'm guessing if you grew up that way it would probably screw with your head too. Hell, for all we know one time he kicked a ball at superspeed and went through another kids chest so since then he distanced himself from normal humans, seeing them as inferior. Kinda like little kids laughing when stepping on ants or when they eat a bug while riding a bike. There's no real villains or heroes. It's not like Butcher, Frenchie or any of the others are heroes either.

Regarding your "Punisher" comparison, you're on the money. "The Boys" was basically the comic book author's (Garth Ennis) way of getting The Punisher to murder the DC universe without needing licensing from either Marvel or DC.
If I remember right he wanted to write them in a more realistic way but knew DC wouldn't allow things like Superman being a rapist Edit: Just did a little digging, "The first six issues of The Boys were published by Wildstorm, starting in 2006. On January 24, 2007, the series was abruptly canceled with issue 6. Ennis later explained that this was because DC Comics (of which Wildstorm was an imprint before it was disbanded) were uneasy with the anti-superhero tone of the work." Well it wasn't exactly that, but it was kind of the seed of an idea that sparked what became the comic. Also, DEFINITELY READ THE COMIC. It's a LOT different compared to the show (and in my opinion better, but that's always how these things go right?), and you'll see a ton of stuff in that that's honestly a lot crazier than what's in the show.
Oh, and Simon Pegg is in the show as Hughie's dad because Simon Pegg was literally the inspiration for the character of Hughie originally. Hell, he looks EXACTLY like Simon Pegg in the comic.

(Also, unlike most of the other channels I watch, you have the same level of knowledge of this world as I did - none whatsoever.)
That's honestly what I like about this show, it's not so clear-cut how I'm supposed to feel about everybody. About the supers, about The Boys, about anyone really... And it's realistic and makes you question what a hero should be.
The original Hughie from the comics was modelled after Simon Pegg when it came out (he was friends with the artist) and him playing the father was a great move on the producer's part.
Abi's smile and how her eyes glow up at the same time always enchant me. But I love the chemistry between you guys. And I am so glad you react to this!
The comic it’s based off is a little more amped up version of this, but the show made a wise decision toning it down and honestly making it better. It more maturely and intelligently shows that the heroes aka celebrities and the lie are the real villains in the world sometimes.
This is a great take on how corporate greed would corrupt superheroes. Not only with Vought being a private security firm selling its superhero services to local and regional govs, but with the branding, merchandising and everything else.

You guys are gonna looooove this show. It was a really pleasant surprise for me. What's great about The Boys is how human it makes the superheroes. And sometimes they're just the worst kind.
I really enjoyed this first season. Such a different take on the Superhero Genre. I loved it. Dark and gritty with super-powered people being really douchey and full of themselves, like they certainly could be in real life. A fascinating world they've created here with the superheros being all corporate and being like major league sports players with their faces on all kinds of merchandise. (Case in point the amusingly named "Frosted A-Trains" cereal.)
Haven't watched a show with you guys since Altered Carbon ages ago. So glad we are watching the same show again because I forgot how much enjoyment you guys bring to my life :D
According to the comics, there aren’t really any super villains because it’s so much easier and financially rewarding to be a superhero, and nearly every superhero is corrupt so they’re basically villains anyway. The few times actual super criminals popped up, they were killed off quickly and out of the public eye.
This sense of threat is what Snyder wanted to show in Batman vs Superman. It’s really terrifying to be around superhumans because no one can stop them.
