For those with 2018 WRX, place key in [ON] position. Once switched to [ON], you have 30 seconds to get 20 buckle/unbuckles. Just insert the clip, push the button, and quickly insert again (repeat x20). After you get 20 clicks, turn the car [OFF] then insert the seatbelt into the receptacle. Start your car and wait a few seconds. Unbuckle your seatbelt, and the light/chime will remain off until you ever disconect your battery. Repeat this process for passenger seatbelt if desired. The important thing to note here is for the 2018 WRX, [ACC] mode doesn't work. It needs to be in [ON].
Thanks for posting this video btw!

Thank you for this video. After numerous attempts to disable the chime on our 2019 Forester, it finally worked. I think it has something to do with whether you turn it off and back on in accessory mode after you've punched the belt 20+ times or whether the belt remains in the buckle after the last punch, All I know is it worked and I wasn't about to put it back to find out.

I had to watch this about four times before I could get it to work successfully. It was confusing because I didn’t know if I should have the parking brake on or not since he mentioned it and when I counted how many times he did it, he unbuckled the seatbelt it more like 40 times so I tried to 20 times and it didn’t work and then I tried it 40 times and it did. But now that I got it, I am so so so grateful because my frustration was about five times more than his because it is the most annoying thing in the world and I think him so much for making this video because I’m finally free. I drove my Subaru about six months before I saw this. Thanks again now I have some peace of mind.

This WORKS! I have a 2024 Impreza as a company car that I've had since April. I travel for my job every day as a technician. Often, I will drive from point A in a parking lot to a more secluded area point B to do my paperwork. At my house, it's a long driveway, so I will unbuckle and drive a short while to get to the mailbox. Doing ALL these with that damn seatbelt chime. I always put the seatbelt on when I hit the road. Been doing this for decades and I don't feel comfortable if I don't have it on. But when I'm travelling a very short distance like everyone does now and then, I don't want to buckle up for 30 seconds. I ALSO don't want to hear this incessant beep. Do as he instructs. I did it and thought it didn't work. But all it took was having the car completely off then starting it and driving away. I don't know, you may have to take the key out then put it back in. I found out it worked when I unbuckled to drive to the mailbox and was SO PLEASED that what I did worked the first time! If it doesn't work the first time, keep at it. IT DOES WORK! Warning sounds are needed, but this constant no seatbelt connected chime is ridiculous.

Lol, I love the frustration in this guys voice. Also, I just did this and it works!!! Thank you! I really wanted to trade the car in after only 2 months of driving this car…. And it’s not even mine. It’s my wife’s I’m hardly in this car.

Please help. I have tried this so many times. It’s not working. Does this no longer work on 2023 Outbacks? Do i need a parking brake on? When I try to turn it off from accessory mode it turns on- not off, but doesn’t start the engine. Should I do something different at that step?

Does this deactivate all the chimes for all the seatbelts or just the front driver's seat? My dog keeps triggering the backseat one

So I performed this on just the drivers side and it worked perfectly for both front seats. However the back seats still chime and the chime is sort of intermittent and odd sounding. Do I need to perform the same procedure for the back seats? Thank you by the way........ huge improvement.

This was one of my favorite mods on my 07 Impreza lol. The chime drove me crazy if all I was doing was putting in a new radio or speakers or something, definitely worth it. Just have to do it again if you unhook the battery which is no big deal

I have a 2018 suburb legacy and it drives me insane . So accessory mode, buckel and unbuckle 20x turn on and it won't do it again? Is accessory mode just turn the key but not start?: Sorry I'm slow

  • @julianaq13

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have a '22 Forester. I followed your directions, & it doesn't chime when I'm not moving. But it still does when I move.
I have many appointments where I have to key a code in at the gate for access & I still have to rebuckle.

My wife loves her Subaru. But the persistent and constantly louder seatbelt chime has made me want to trade in this two month old car. I don’t drive without a seatbelt. Except for when I’m maneuvering around in a parking lot, or driveway. I hate this chime. Thanks for the video. I hope this is real.

I did this, but the downside is that it still chimes a couple times at start up. I like to start the engine first to let the fluids start moving and warming up as I buckle. I wonder if I can just unplug the sensor on the seat belt, or if there is an unintended consequence of this.

Thank goodness my 2023 Forester comes equipped with an on/off button icon for this feature. It's overhead in front of sunglass holder. I just looked it up in the manual. Whether previous models come so equipped, I can't say. Beats disabling the wires, which, who knows what that else that does? Otherwise, this guy's got a pretty good solution, I reckon? Until you turn the car off and back on again, and it starts over again? Maybe? IDK.

I tow my dogs around and the seatbelt alarm is god awful. If I do this for the drivers seat, do I have to do it in the rear seats as well?
