privileges dont exist, you got where you are because of you mindset and hardwork. How you grew up is only a reflexion of what your parents taught you and the decisions they made
Ali Khan Ahmadi wow, it’s a good thing you’re sure that they got parents to teach them things. Just because they were able to succeed in spite of the challenges, doesn’t mean that privilege does not exist. Privilege is basically whatever you get that advances you and opens you to opportunities that is not a right or among the rights in the laws of your country. There are people living in the “modern” world with no electricity, no potable water. They don’t just have a lack of privilege, but also their human rights.
There was a story that researched Italian families and they found that most wealthy families today had ancestors that was (and always have been) wealthy since the 1400's. Family and heritage gives you the start in life to make you successful, obviously this is something very hard to get out of.
@@twins3xpress241 true but if you look at the ethnicities both where waiting at the back - it is less that just ONE thing there are multiple factors race is just one factor
CastAwayFilms: Do you actually believe that's ever going to happen, though? Seriously? You think that one day all of society's inequalities will be defeated and there will be no more privilege or hatred? I admire your optimism, but I'm not entirely convinced that the way the world has been since the dawn of time is going to change simply because you complain enough. It just looks to me like you're wasting your time on a task that will never yield any results, and your individual contribution is so, so, so minute that it's very likely you won't even change a single person's opinion. It just feels like you could be doing something a bit less pointless with your life.
A lot of the time people see privilege as something to do with race and gender. That is simply not true. I am not saying privilege does not exist, I am saying that people say it differently than what it actually is.
The truth is the world isn't fair and there is privilege.... it's just the way it is... and yes, we should strive it to make it fair...... HOWEVER, there is another truth.... The truth is that most people just want to be comfortable.... Most people do not WANT to put in the work, the will, the persistence, and the tenacity to truly excel and thrive.... That's why there are leaders.... They are the ones with true persistence....
Woke kids make me smile. Thank you. There's nothing wrong with having privilege-- no one has to feel guilty about their privilege. But all of us should 1) acknowledge, 2) appreciate, and 3) strive to extend our privileges to all people.
+globalgourmand Yes there is nothing wrong with having privilege....well...unless it's based on centuries of slavery and exploitation of "the third world" throughout modern history and even present day to a large degree lol Do you even realize it's impossible to ever reach a point where everyone in the world can live like people in the USA? As in it's literally impossible because there is not enough resources in the world for that.
ShaktiX All races have practiced slavery in history, even the third worlders Also I think its good people arent able to live like US citizens. US citizens are being exploited and unknowingly having their freedom taken away, just as the rest of the '"free" world is. Once Tesla's actual research is disclosed, as well as the Hollywood paedophilia, government satantism, ET existance, free energy etc we wont have a need for resources. We'll be able to live in a utopia were everything is fair and peaceful.
I would take 1 step, I never worried about food, my mom always made sure we had food, and if we struggled she never let me know. I’m so grateful she always did her best
Message is not to be ashamed, but grateful. Also to recognize that you have access to things a lot of other people either domestically or internationally don’t have. It’s fine if you have privileges just recognize it
There was one thing they forgot to mention, out of all the kids in there, there might have been some who didn't take a step to get pity and others who took a step to win when none of those statements applied to them. In life there are also cheaters who can get ahead of the privilege and non privilege and that's how their kids became privilege.
If privilege means you and your parents before you made the right decisions, then yeah me and many other people have privilege. None of this has to do with race. No matter who you are, if you make the right decisions you will prosper
But when you think about years and years of slavery and unequal separation by race, can those people's parents have made the right decisions? Gotten the highest paying jobs to secure safety for their families? We can pretend the 60s were a different time, different generation, and that it has no affect today; but many of those people are still alive and are our bosses, our senators, heck even our president. The affects of the past still linger.
Why are you making this video about race? It’s talking about how everyone has privileges that they don’t often see and don’t acknowledge that their life can be better than other’s due to these privileges.
Depends on where you are...if you grew up in parts of Chicago's south or west sides, there's a fair chance that the school system left you with too much PTSD to ever function outside of a prison system.
I Don't think growing up in a trailer park without access to health care gives you any reasons to step forward. That is also the USA in the 21st century.
The only flawed this about this, is that there's something to win. Life isn't a race. It's an experience. Wether you have the privilege to get a head start doesn't matter. The only true privilege we do have, is the privilege to be able to live at all.
Here's a real privilege quiz. list the ones that apply to you: 1: I don't have to worry about going bankrupt if I go to the hospital 2: I get everything I want for Christmas (needs don't count) 3: I own some of the latest and greatest technology 4: My parents have a household income above the average 5: My parents bought me my first car 6: I can afford to buy medication without the need for insurance 7: I inherited wealth from a member of my family 8: My family can afford to go on vacation once a year 9: At least 75% of the possessions in my house have expensive brands 10: I don't have to work to get the thing I need
Sergio, I know you don't have any visible social media but I want to let you know that you are an inspiration & voice for young people that grew up in your same situation. I am not one of those people but I teach students who have similar upbringings as you and I hope they are as happy & insightful as you are when they are older. Loved hearing your perspective.
Race plays a role in the wealth gap. Poverty is incredibly hard to escape from and we can’t ignore that many people living less privileged lives are racial minorities.
there are ways to avoid perpetuating poverty though. an easy one is to avoid having children until you are in a stable relationship and job which a lot of people don't do which causes their children to grow up in poverty thus being disadvantaged and likely leading them stuck in poverty repeating their parents mistakes
Jaedyn that’s what my parents did, they came from Mexico working hard then had kids and now they have a stable job with their own house. They were able to get a much better life because of the US even with being a “minority” if that even had to do with anything.
Betsy Benisek we also can't ignore most of them are in that area cause of their own mistakes or their parents mistakes... There is no boogeyman pushing you down
Having privilege doesn't mean you should feel guilty , or that you didn't work hard in life . It just means that someone before you was successful and some people didn't have the *"privilege"* to have someone who was . PRIVILEDGE AND RACE ARE NOT directly tied *but* people are still alive who suffered from discrimination laws which means some POC haven't had the *"privilege"* of accumulating wealth over multiple generations which others did
The only issue I have with privilege is how a lot of people feel that if you have more privilege than others, you should be ashamed of that. That I should feel ashamed that my parents did everything they could to give me the best life possible and no, i'm not going to be ashamed of that. I'm going to be proud of the privilege they gave me and continue to make my life better so that my own kids can have the best life they can and continue on that way. The only time you should feel ashamed for having more privilege is if you're using it to belittle others. That's the only time.
I think people should stop taking everything so personally. I have a lot of privilege myself and I've never felt ashamed for it. The video is showing privilege so that it can be recognized. So that those with it can empathize with those without out it. Awareness, recognition, and empathy creates an opportunity to connect to others.
I think most of you need to reflect what this video's message really was because you seemed not to get it. This had nothing to do with race or gender or any of that. This was to show the misfortune and poverty which people in the United States and other 1st world countries tend to overlook. If you gain one thing from this video it should be to be grateful of the opportunities and privileges many of us have because ANYONE could be living in an environment where they feel unsafe, helpless and so on.
Privilege and working hard are two different things. My family and I are not rich by all means, but we still work hard for what we got (I got 5 points btw)
Privilege is your 5 points, working hard is how fast you can run. Theoretically someone in the back with 0 points could win the race and someone in the front with 8 points could get last. It’s just that someone with 8 points doesn’t need to run nearly as hard or as fast to get to the finish as someone in the back.
The problem I have with videos like those are the fact that only people who agree with the message likes and shares it. It is SO simple and vague. It doesn't change people's perspective. It just confirms it...
Now, we just need to remember that most of those situations are created by poverty. Those who put their race or religion over this factor are discriminating a lot of people as well. Education is the solution
My heart broken into million little pieces to see Brandon's sad face. and Sergio, he could use a hug. Be strong, guys. LIfe ain't easy but you will make it.
It seems like people in the comments section are relating “talking about privilege” to “giving an excuse for not working hard”. Two very different things
Privilege exists but it doesn't determine how far you go in life. Determination, hard-work, and having a vision does. There are a lot of people who were priviliged but ended up as nobodies.
Clupture - Fortnite no one is shaming them! It’s about being thankful. Others work hard too and still don’t have what they do. The message of this video didn’t go through your peanut brain unfortunately.
Understanding that you had opportunities and advantages is important, and recognising that others didn't have them is part of growing up. This isn't a race or gender thing, this is an economic and familial thing.
they've talked about recognizing privileges a lot in multiple episodes, but can we talk about the toxicity of the oppression Olympics? I think we've gotten to the point where we can address where "checking your privilege" goes too far, and when people have to prove how disadvantaged they are in order for others to hear them out on their opinion of social issues.
Madeline Laake what's happening to the olympics? In what specific case do people have to prove how disadvantaged they are to speak on issues? In the government?
How does recognizing 'your privilege' help anyone? Are 'privileged' people supposed to feel guilty that their parents worked hard to give them a better life?
Noelle Irina no it’s not directly connected to how privileged you are, but just because someone is “privileged” because their parents worked hard for them isn’t a reason to shame them.
Noelle Irina The "privileged" person's parents were more responsable and didnt have kids until marriage. They graduated and got a nice job. Thats all it takes.
Noelle Irina wealth is directly connected to the VALUE of work that you do, not the amount. Do you think a sweeper who works an 8 hour shift generates more wealth for the economy than the CEO does in 2 hours?
Patents being married or not has nothing to do with being white, I am white and my parents struggled with bills! Especially when my dad got laid off in the early 90's and had trouble finding work, we nearly had to file bankruptcy! I never got a scholarship to any post secondary institution! I am white, I never got to visit Disneyland or Disney world because we could not afford it, So being a white male I do not have white privilege!
+Courtney DeMaeyer There are a lot more women privileges than male privileges. There is no such thing as white privilege , but normal privilege exists.
Race isn’t the main cause for being privileged or not. However, race can be a factor of whether your privileged or not. Being privileged or not does exist and it’s unfair to say that race isn’t part of it because it is, just like class is. There are stories in people’s lives that support this. Don’t be so quick to dismiss it is all I’m sayin’. ✌🏾❤️
I got 1 point. I didn't always have a male figure but for the majority of my life I did. For the people saying this is to make the privileged feel guilty I say shame on you. You're not even considering how everyone else feels too. When the camera zooms into the one black guys face who didn't take any steps you can see pain in his face. When you are given things in life sometimes you don't appreciate them. That is the message here to appreciate the opportunities that you have because not everyone has those opportunities.
moatasem KNXC What? How? This is meant to open up people eyes to the advantages that some people are given in life that get them ahead in the "race" of life not make anyone feel burdened. I don't understand how that point is unclear.
This is a BS way to equate how easy people's lives are... I grew up with both parents, never had to worry about finances and have a good education. I'll bet you I could point to several people who, according to this BS test, are less privileged than I, who've had an easier go of it than I. I've suffered from OCD since I was a teen, a problem that meant I couldn't take an education until much later in life, and it's something I'll continue to struggle with the rest of my life. Everyone has a cross to bear in their life, some are heavier than others, but this "privilege" test is superficial and doesn't really show you what people have had to deal with in their lives.
There will always be people of every race that do not have the same opportunities as others... the key is realizing the situation you are in whether you are in a better situation or not and working to change that situation in order to provide a better life for your children
Wait did i hear wrong or did he say that going to collage for free because of your athletic ability is not a privilege? If you're going to play the privilege game everything good is a privilege even being smart or good at sports, not maybe i got it wrong because of the double negative.
Athletic ability is a privilege because not everyone has it, it was not your choice and it helps you gain an edge such as getting into college. I think it's a privilege
Yeah I was confused too, I got my scholarships because of my grades, and my low income house, but because I had a scholarship does that mean I took a step? I'm tired and the wording confused me.
I got 3 and I feel so blessed and privileged. Sure there were times I panicked because I had to go to bed hungry, but it’s thanks to many people that I’ve gotten to know that im able to move forward. #blessed

YukiNoYume so inspiring!! Good luck with everything
privileges dont exist, you got where you are because of you mindset and hardwork.
You inspire me man!
There was a story that researched Italian families and they found that most wealthy families today had ancestors that was (and always have been) wealthy since the 1400's.
Family and heritage gives you the start in life to make you successful, obviously this is something very hard to get out of.
This video is economic privilege not racial privilege...
They correlate a lot though, which is where socioeconomic privilege comes from

Freaking thank you. People can't seem to wrap their head around the fact that it is primarily class based more than anything else.
Race and gender privilege is less apparent in first world communities but economic privilege is.
I may have taken 0 steps, but my privilege is my Mum.
Privilege has to do with your social class, not race...
DirtyE I agree so much
DirtyE unfortunately people don't want to see that. People believe how others treat you is part of privilege
Woke kids make me smile. Thank you. There's nothing wrong with having privilege-- no one has to feel guilty about their privilege. But all of us should 1) acknowledge, 2) appreciate, and 3) strive to extend our privileges to all people.
+globalgourmand
Yes there is nothing wrong with having privilege....well...unless it's based on centuries of slavery and exploitation of "the third world" throughout modern history and even present day to a large degree lol
Do you even realize it's impossible to ever reach a point where everyone in the world can live like people in the USA?
As in it's literally impossible because there is not enough resources in the world for that.
ShaktiX All races have practiced slavery in history, even the third worlders
Also I think its good people arent able to live like US citizens.

Life isn't about what happens to you. Life is about how you REACT to what happens to you.
The only flawed this about this, is that there's something to win. Life isn't a race. It's an experience. Wether you have the privilege to get a head start doesn't matter. The only true privilege we do have, is the privilege to be able to live at all.

Why isnt citizenship considered a privillage?
true! your first citizenship is determined by where you're born, so if you're born in a rich country with a lot of resources...
wealth is privileged. this doesn’t represent race at all.

PRIVILEDGE AND RACE ARE NOT directly tied *but* people are still alive who suffered from discrimination laws which means some POC haven't had the *"privilege"* of accumulating wealth over multiple generations which others did
SVPER MVRIO Gonna be tough to compete with all the bot comments but you absolutely hit the nail on the head there
My best standing ovation to you Sergio! You must and will win your race! PERSEVERE!
Preach 🙏
Thank you!
Yes, privilege is definitely not a race issue, but rather you social class which differs your "privilege"
Absolutely.
All I see is financial privilege.
thank god someone has a brain here

It seems like people in the comments section are relating “talking about privilege” to “giving an excuse for not working hard”. Two very different things

Privilege exists but it doesn't determine how far you go in life. Determination, hard-work, and having a vision does. There are a lot of people who were priviliged but ended up as nobodies.
Usted merece mas atencón buen hombre
But those who do have privilege don't need to work as hard as someone who doesn't to reach the same level of success.

they've talked about recognizing privileges a lot in multiple episodes, but can we talk about the toxicity of the oppression Olympics? I think we've gotten to the point where we can address where "checking your privilege" goes too far, and when people have to prove how disadvantaged they are in order for others to hear them out on their opinion of social issues.
Madeline Laake what's happening to the olympics? In what specific case do people have to prove how disadvantaged they are to speak on issues? In the government?
Madeline Laake yeah? What issues in the Olympics?
How does recognizing 'your privilege' help anyone? Are 'privileged' people supposed to feel guilty that their parents worked hard to give them a better life?
Salil Deshpande Don't you dare go there. If wealth were directly connected to the amount of work you do, then privilege wouldn't exist.
Noelle Irina exactly, that’s kinda the whole point of what privilege is, but so many people don’t get it
Noelle Irina no it’s not directly connected to how privileged you are, but just because someone is “privileged” because their parents worked hard for them isn’t a reason to shame them.

MineBrine2343 The only real privilege for me is your parents.

MineBrine2343 So are Asians more privileged because they hold the highest household income in the U.S.?
I got 1 point. I didn't always have a male figure but for the majority of my life I did.
For the people saying this is to make the privileged feel guilty I say shame on you. You're not even considering how everyone else feels too. When the camera zooms into the one black guys face who didn't take any steps you can see pain in his face. When you are given things in life sometimes you don't appreciate them. That is the message here to appreciate the opportunities that you have because not everyone has those opportunities.
Apple More more like feel shame, and you have done just that. Making someone feel burdened for acts they didn't do themselves..now that's evil.
moatasem KNXC What?
ManBearPig absolutely.
