My problem with the art style change of Unbound is that they didn't fully commit to it. Imagine the insane things they could have done with car customization if every car had a cell shaded comic book look to it.
To be fair, even just half of it made people hate the game, to the point of calling it the new worst nfs game. I think it was for the best that they didn't do so.

Truly the worst mobile games ive played. Literally every game after 8 basically softlocks you. Doesnt allow you to get blueprints and the pay on replay races are LITERALLY NOTHING. So its literally unplayable without microtransactions.
If I had a nickel for everytime a youtube talked really fast, did general news from time to time and play minecraft, I would gave two nickels, which strange because it happened twice
Note that NFS Most Wanted's (2012) gameplay was basically like a newer version of Burnout, and not as much of a faithful NFS game. Still really like it tho.
Some of these complaints are valid. Like the voice acting being annoying. But many of these complaints are just goofy. Always online? You CAN play offline ya know. Grindy? You were literally saying Asphalt legends is a great game. Bruh that game is thee most grindy racing game off all time. It takes a life time just to unlock a skin. Handling? Yo it’s not that hard to get used to. It’s better than GTA handling! Expensive? You don’t need the DLCs to play the game or to progress. Besides, they now have a “DLC” that you can get all the season passes for only $10.
I have 75 hours in Unbound and I love it D: have yet to encounter a crash or anything game breaking and I am having a blast driving with my tuned Mitsubishi at 300 km/h crashing into a random player at mach 9. I also *LOVE* the artstyle besides the characters too.
Honestly, the story isn't supposed to be the main selling point. At this point, due to the large amount of content, online is the biggest thing. I love it, even to achiving 500 hours clocked in.
probably because it shares a name with the highly nostalgia viewed most wanted 2005, like there's legit people saying MW12 is the worst game in the series and forgetting about shit like unbound and no limits, you know the fucking mobile game
you know the series is in such a dire state i wouldn't mind for them to "remaster" the older games even tho there's a reason they haven't done so already
I do like the art style a lot, but I also feel like they didn't do enough with it. If they had only the racers cel shaded, while having cops and pedestrians look realistic - it would have an interesting contrast. It would also be great if stuff like jumps were highlighted by cel shaded elements. Cars could be cel shaded as well for any specific sequence too, like a loading screen or a cutscene. There's a lot of things that could've been done to utilise the art style at its full potential, but the devs went the boring way either due to lack of creativity or EA stepping on their balls to release a NFS game, not caring for the craft. The story, yes, is ungodly garbage. It feels like a +50 year old guy was made to write a zoomer/gen alpha relatable story after watching a few YT vids and scrolling TikTok for 5 minutes. And there's just plot points that make no sesne. Also A$AP Rocky brings nothing to the table, only a rant about something (I don't remember it, I played the story over a year ago and it's not very memorable) and being a racer in the top class that sucks at driving. One time Rocky got quite literally flung at me during a race from hitting a traffic car.
The original NFS Most Wanted was peak NFS. Even though it was released in 2005, it still holds up. Story is actually pretty decent, graphics aren't awful (even being almost 20 years old), and the cop ai is pretty great, too. If EA were to just remaster it as an anniversary edition, it would sell like crazy. I'd get a new system just for that game
Cars on rails, piss filter, boring world design, barely any visual tuning and you can't spin others but they can spin you. Gotta be blind if you count it as the best nfs, no wonder music and story gets praised so much because fans are blind. Unbound/burnout12/2015 are still much worse. Also if they EVER remake/remaster MW or any of the classics it will set everyone on fire.
For the windowed issue in Most Wanted 2012: Alt + Enter forces the game into fullscreen, it's baffling that a setting for that wasn't intergrated in the PC port.
Man I'm old, the game that everyone hated at launch(I liked it tho) is now a benchmark. Guess I'll have to wait ten years to see people talk about the Unbound in the same way. Glad that you didn't compare it to 2005 Most Wanted. It's actually hilarious how every NFS game is heavily criticized at launch only to get praised when the next game comes out, it's literally been happening since the early 00s.
Most Wanted having an event where the cops relentlessly chase after you while disabling the quit to menu option in the settings was absolute peak, which is sad because a ps2 game is far better then the newest releases.
Spatz, I agree that NFS has had many issues in recent years, but with the Kaisen approach to Unbound's online it seems Criterion is trying to guage what will work better in the future. Also I would recommend checking out Heat cause a lot of people say its the best of the more recent NFS games, with the Cops being so challenging in that game that they updated the game to nerf them, and from what I recall it doesn't have DRM like Unbound
There are Tweaks you can make to Most Wanted to make it look better and DS4 to make the Controller work. One of my all time favorite games, the Soundtrack is awesome too.
You should defo play NFS Heat and Most Wanted 05 if you enjoy the NFS franchise. Most Wanted 05 is an unbeatable classic and Heat is a spiritual successor (in many ways) to MW05 and is leagues better than Unbound which is surprising since it is the second newest mainline NFS game.

i personally found NFS unbound much more fun compared to other NFS games in the multiplayer aspect, since it's been getting a lot of support from the devs and they have added in a lot of nice content lately. i feel like most of the criticism for this game are towards the singleplayer, dialouge, etc, but the online mode is an absolute banger that everyone should try
1:27 True. The “Need for Speed” movie isn’t what killed the “Need for Speed” franchise… But the “Need for Speed” movie IS what killed Touchstone Pictures.
my biggest issue with unbound is the separation between offline and online progression PLUS all the post-launch additional content was only unlockable in the online mode…. it’s like unbound is begging the players to go online and grind the battle pass :/
Maybe the real need for speed is the friends we made Seriously tho, blud just wanted to glaze mw2012, which I'm not against. That game was flamed way too harsh.
That is not what I thought Mr. Spatnz would look like, I pictured something more like a grown up version of Gibby from I carly mixed with some features from John from John tron.
the only need for speed game I liked was NFS:World. Hands down the best game. Had tons of customizations, tons of upgrades, tons of missions, large open world map. It was great. And then EA shut down the servers and to this day are super anal about people making their own servers.
BIG NFS fan since MW ‘12 (my very first NFS game in the early-10’s). I love Unbound for sure, but its story, plus its characters, can use a lot of work. I don’t mind the cars and its customization, they’re pretty noice. And with wraps existing, it’s letting your imagination run wild (for example, I made two car wraps based around “Yellowjackets” and “RWBY”). But I feel like NFS would get more value if their old titles get modern releases (no revamps, please). It would bring NFS back into the fold amazingly and get a pretty significant fanbase to boot. Also, the NFS movie is a blur. Watched it as a tween, and it still don’t make sense today.
As someone that's played both, you should play "Most Wanted" from the mid 00's, maybe just mod out the piss filter. If you have the complaint about needing to go to a garage to change your car rather than doing it on the open road, then that's still going to be a complaint for you, but it makes sense to me personally that you can't just drop and replace your air intake and crank shaft on the side of the road while the cops are looking for you.
for the record nfsmw 2012 ended up the way it is due to ea cutting down and rushing criterion to develop it quicker and simpler. theres beta versions of ps3 test builds that have storyline basics implemented, and a different vibe to the map, also starting in a bmw m3 gtr type grey e92 as if it was the successor to the original most wanted (which it was supposed to be). it also had garage menus and such where you owned vehicles instead of the random exchange throught the map.
Need for speed just literally just created an update based on the original NFS most wanted and this video was definitely being created before the update came out, but one of the things that we do need to remind ourselves that this game was not being completely utilized by criterion during the time because those people were working on battlefield 2042 and we all know what happened with that game so if you ever take a look at the online portion of the game, it’s actually really really good and I’m surprised not that many people have been talking about it. They just added a new PV with the most wanted update and it’s actually really fun. Sure they are still bugs and whatever that definitely do need to be hammered out but with an overtime, the game has gotten a whole lot more optimized over the time compared to it was back from launch where it was unoptimized it crashed a lot and also one other thing too. It is not as bad as if you would probably say like test drive unlimited solar crown.
1:30 "the need for speed games killed the game franchise" *Immediately mentions asphalt 9/legends unite right after that (unintended but great example)*
Good joke having asphalt sponsoring this vid It’s just a niche game nowadays I cannot stop adoring Unbound, this new mode is genuinely some of the most fun I’ve ever had in need for speed, you can feel there’s love put into this so it doesn’t matter that it isn’t incredibly popular
Finally, people now see that nfs mw 2012 is a good game. I know that this game doesn't deserve to be named after legendary mw 2005, and if it was named nfs Fairhaven, it would be more copailing to fans, but I'm still love 2012 entery in this franchise.
EA is in the business of making money; not games. If it doesn't make millions of dollars within the first week then it is considered a failure. For EA, it has to make *ALL* the money by microtransactions, battle passes, season passes, skins and DLC. They have to sell an unreasonable amount of copies to consider it a success.
one of the reasons why most people prefer the older ones is also cause of accessibility most normal people dont own a super computer to play games im still running a 7 gig laptop
7:38 I didn't stop complaining because I stopped caring; I stopped complaining because I _genuinely_ stopped buying games that do this, no matter how hype I was for them. The industry is vast and I can replace something instantly, I will not put up with this, ever. It's generally pretty easy to avoid as long as you just blacklist EA, Ubisoft, and Activision/Blizzard, from your sphere of interest.
a little thing to add when i moved to pc i had to buy the game i luckily manged to buy the game for 7$CAD when it was on sale and recently they made a big dlc bundle of all that 150$ DLCS and made them 20$CAD. i managed to buy the game and all dlcs for 35$CAD
As someone who played competitive Need for Speed Heat, Unbound was one of the most disappointing entries in the franchise: It just didn't work on release The story is mid It didn't get decent drifting until late in it's dev cycle Multiplayer and single player don't share progression The online is constantly under maintenance or won't connect It's a shame because the game IMMEDIATELY prior to it just works and is good.
You know whats funny? They are adding in the BMW M3 from MW to Unbound. You know what is more fun? Actually having the real deal that a entier game was made for that car. I suggest to Spatnz to TRY the other NFS,like Underground 2,Most Wanted (2005) and even NFS Pro Street. What makes Unbound even worse is that you not just have the Cops Yapping at you,but also the other Racers that comment on everything. Especially the Music that Spatnz forgot to mention that is beyond insufferable. As for the 2015 NFS it wasnt that bad at all, looks amazing, drives somewhat different, music is fitting the vibe and you can even turn off the engine and enjoy the ambient. You even got the legend himself there hoping to see you drift,Ken Block. Yes the Cutscenes are cheesy af but the game is more tolerant then Unbound. But I would still prefer all the other NFS over Unbound,Heat and anything beyond the 2015 one. I really really really DONT wish for EA to Remaster any of them,as EA would just make them worse in every way, especially with the way they went with Unbound. EA even took down Most Wanted (2005) from the store Despite all the massive purchases that have piled up for EA. There was even a situation where the Demand for NFS MW (2005) was rising and people had to pirate it because EA refused to keep the old NFS's at the Store and offline. They really are morons at making games last longer then a few year,to that I say Dont buy Unbound, and get yourself the old ones, the community behind them are dedicated to help you experience what made those games awesome, rather then burn your wallet on Unbound.

I haven't had the chance to play the newer NFS games but Ican remember how much I enjoyed playin MW05, Carbon, MV12 and Rivals, what a shame...
Man I wish EA was like it was back in the early 2000s
1:30 "the need for speed games killed the game franchise"
*Immediately mentions asphalt 9/legends unite right after that (unintended but great example)*
IMO I feel like racing games in general are dying they're always either realistic racing games like need for speed or mario kart clones
I am a big fan of Need For Speed Most Wanted 2005 and think they need a remaster of it ASAP.
Not happening
Holy shiii how did we go from something like Need for Speed The Run to this?! Smh
NFS HP2 on PCSX2 sounds like a better NFS introduction to Spantz. Oh, and uh... 2005 is the real MW.
Is that a BLUE RAY GUN I see on the right side of the video?!?!?!?!
Good joke having asphalt sponsoring this vid
It’s just a niche game nowadays I cannot stop adoring Unbound, this new mode is genuinely some of the most fun I’ve ever had in need for speed, you can feel there’s love put into this so it doesn’t matter that it isn’t incredibly popular
that window type reset problem has been hapening to me on titanfall 2
I have fun on it. I love doing gauntlet races. Shame there’s only 6 of those.
Please, consider changing your haircut
As someone who played competitive Need for Speed Heat, Unbound was one of the most disappointing entries in the franchise:
It just didn't work on release
The story is mid
It didn't get decent drifting until late in it's dev cycle
Multiplayer and single player don't share progression
The online is constantly under maintenance or won't connect
It's a shame because the game IMMEDIATELY prior to it just works and is good.
They really are morons at making games last longer then a few year,to that I say Dont buy Unbound, and get yourself the old ones, the community behind them are dedicated to help you experience what made those games awesome, rather then burn your wallet on Unbound.
remember back when nfs mw 2012 came out everyone hated it...I think we're seeing a pattern
also police in unbound only chase you (after a race) at night because street racing duh🤦♀️
That...
That is not what I expected you to look like..
i love unbound i play on ps5 the only thing that bothers me is EA rushing the criterion’s devs
