Hi Jack. If your camera is pointed straight down, it should be an easier set up as you wont have any compensation to deal with. Let us all know how you go. What are you planing to make with your laser and camera set up?
Thanks Gil, this is extremely helpful. I have been using the frame command for over a year to align projects. This is going to save an enormous amount of time.
So far, I have made a few cutting boards and decorative wall hangings and about 2 dozen wooden spoons. I am moving into ceramic tiles as coasters and for house numbers. I have enjoyed learning the new process and Lightburn is well worth the subscription cost. I get a lot of joy from sitting down with an idea and easily transforming that into a product. It's a dream come true.
My biggest swagger yet is making challenge coins. I bought wooden blanks from Amazon and designed the front and back sides for the Unit that I work with. The little tokens are a huge morale booster. I had a great time making them and learned a lot about the software doing so. In the last 2 months I have learned a considerable amount from your videos. I learned a lot the hard way too 😉 The shortcut key "P" is my favorite. Perhaps you could make a video about the shortcut keys? I know I must be missing a few in my repertoire.
Excellent tutorial on teh camera setup. i am about to do it with a web cam that I do not use anymore. Saved me money as well :-) Cheers Man...much appreciated.
@@LaserLivestream haha can’t believe you asked. A uterus for a baby shower game!! Need to cut it out on some nice card for a poster game. Lol 😂 I’m also having trouble with the Emblaser and getting the menu for it in the menu bar in LightBurn (Mac version). I see on your screen recordings Emblaser has its own menu drop down. Not sure why this isn’t showing up on my LightBurn. Have downloaded the latest version and only set up the Emblaser yesterday.
@@danielbass09 I look forward to seeing your Baby show game once it is finished. You can post pics on our Facebook group (the link is in the description). As for the Emblaser menu, the team at Darkly Labs have a specially modified version of Lightburn just for the Emblaser. Download it at their webpage and get more out of Lightburn for the Emblaser :)
No problems Rob. I did see your last comment via email, did you get the camera to register? If not, see of you can print out the markers at a smaller size. You might like to try printing at 100% instead fit to page. Let me know 👍
Awesome video! I just installed the light burn camera in my Laser. The image is upside down. Can I change a setting to flip the image or do I actually have to flip the camera?
Great tip! Unfortunately I can't place my camera directly over the top, but maybe with a future laser I will be able to get that camera configuration. What model laser are your running?
With the wizard in Lightburn, it has the support height (10mm) and material thickness (0mm) already configured for my machine. If you run the wizard, you might have to change both depending on the machine you are running. If you check the screen closely, the wizard has a reminder to set appropriate thickness :)
Great Video, I am having a issue with the update overlay. When I click on it the laser D1scans and then scans the Work area and then show blank on my screen??
Hi Diane, I can't see your set up or what is happening, but have you tried toggling the "Show" option in the Camera control window? Sometimes that will update your image. Let us know if that works!
since new lightburn update, on my sculpfun s9, got the mounted camera for it, now it doesnt recognise it at all. any suggestions would be greatful. thanks
I won’t be able to set up my camera until I can get my x axis and y axis correctly calibrated. Will the focus of the camera be affected by a grow light? There isn’t much room in here let alone proper lighting. I have an xTool and still need help calibrating both axis’. I will work on cutting circles in hopes of getting a nice round circle.
When I returned the next day the camera overlay option isn't selectable. How do I save the calibration so I can use the camera or do we need to to this calibration every time? I did right click on the camera window and import file option showed up. I was able to title the file and save it, and now I can't find it. What am I doing wrong. So frustrating.
Hi Gil I have a lightburn camera 5mp every time the laser starts to cut or engrave the camera freezes up I’ve put it on the lightburn website do you have any ideas Thanks martin
Yes. But you will need to make sure the controller board for the K40 is compatible. The one that comes standard does not work. A number of people have documented the change over for the K40 as well as installing a camera in the cutter.
HI Gil. How would you go about setting up a camera with a moving laser bed, like the Snapmaker 2 A350? LB can't use the built in camera in the laser module but I wonder if using a third party camera is possible. Any advise is welcome. Thank you!!
Hi Luis, Lightburn will use any camera that your computer can see. So your options to use a different camera is wide open. I have used a Raspberry Pi camera in a laser to check out a file set up, but it was more work than it was worth. As for the moving bed in your Snapmaker 2, it should not be a problem if you use a self focusing camera. You might have to test if it is as accurate at different heights, but there area lot of people who used them in lasers where the bed moves to achieve focus with very little issue. Let me k now if that helps... :) Interested in what you are planing to use your Snapmaker 2 to create! :)
@@LaserLivestream Thank you Gil. I'll try something with a USB or WiFi web camera and see if I can make it work now that you said that other people with moving beds have done it. I'm planning to use the SM2 mostly for NWT and similar engravings. We'll see. :)
Hi, Gil, nice sharing, for some reason, my core camera cant give me accurte alignment even i had done perfect camera alignment, after watching your video, i think i will need a lens calibration also and have a try. btw, I noticed when you do lens calibration, you did that with card on the mat, do you think with or without the mat during lens calibration will impact the result? or if i change to differetn mat, will that mess up the result?
Hi Ted, I have always found that the camera is always a few mills off when setting up a job. I use it to quickly dial in the area I want to laser, then use the frame function to get the operation dead on. A lens calibration will help get the camera and the laser a lot closer and I have always done the calibration on top of the mats that came with my Emblaser 2. Otherwise I just place the calibration card on the cutting surface in different machines. What kind of laser are you trying to calibrate?
@@LaserLivestream I got emblaser core. i think because the way the camera is installed in the sideway, rather than on top, the offset at the edge with camera can go over a few cm, that is very confusing. framing is good, i also use that, but still it possible get a few mm offset easily. hope there is a better aligment solution, maybe some jig?
Hi Gill, I'm using 80W diode laser with 3 axis CNC but I do not have limit switches. Before job, I allways send the laser to the middle of the working area and set orijin point for X and Y axis. I'm wondering does this camera setup work without limit switches or not? What do you suggest to calibrate the camera for my system. Thanks for your kind assist.
I print out the dot test image from Lightburn but it comes out full A4 size? Did you have shrink it down to a certain size, or can you use it full A4 size?
I have installed the official lightburn camera , and I am a bit disappointed with the camera's automatic white balance. the images are "burned", I have also installed an ND8 filter to improve the results but the picture are still poor. I am looking for a better compatible usb camera. anyone can help? any camera recomendation? thanks so much !!!
What type of laser are you using? Have you gotten in contact with the team at Lightburn about the results you are getting? Do you have internal lighting installed in your cutter?
Just subscribed ! Very good straight to the point video thank you you think I can set up my camera directly over the center facing down.
