      Chinese government understood people need to breathe and they can afford having technology to force strict emissions requirements. The problem with legacy automakers is their EVs are heavy, expensive, inefficient, technologically not quite advanced. Besides the EV part of their business in China is insignificant vs ICE business.
      What will happen is South Korean auto manufacturers will be just fine; European manufacturers will focus on Europe and North America, American manufacturers will focus on North America, Japanese automakers will disappear, Chinese automakers will be in China,Africa,Latin America and Australia. Mark my words: Chinese automakers will not be prominent in Europe or North America any time soon.
      Conclusion: this is the end of globalization in auto industry not end of the world like video is suggesting.

      China 6B emission regulation may seem difficult for non-hybrid ICEVs, but hybrid gas-electric vehicles can easily meet it. This is because hybrids use the engine less often, and only use the engine when it emits the least for a given amount of power. The most emission occur at idling and hard acceleration, and in a hybrid, there is no engine idling, and during hard acceleration, the battery and the e-motor assist the engine so that it doesn't have to work too hard.

      Like in Japan and Europe these ‚too big to fail‘ companies have the arrogance to influence governments and lawmakers instead of adapt to better solutions. In EU only in the past Peugeot/PSA did everything to seriously clean Diesel cars but the market did not really appriciated. The idiots still where buying cars from fraudulant cheaters. Such as Toyota now who is mocking over our safety by cheating in crash tests. See money is more important than LIFE. That is the unsolved problem of hypocrites of humanities since Plato. So they ARE the PROBLEM and nowhere the SOLUTION. With that in mind I even understand that China wants to solve the pollution problem, where it is obvious but the most dirt comes from their vessels and container ships, so again and also here there are the old and always same hidden agendas in bad and good for LIFE!

      They work on (at best) 5-year plans that are heavily focused on years one and two; Harvard MBAs are taught that it is OK to leave a mess for the "next guy". And shareholders don't want "value" in five years, THEY WANT IT NOW. So US corporations make very bad long-term decisions that prioritize short-term profits (why Elon wanted to go private). If China doesn't change on this it will likely trigger a global depression (NOT recession) which will hit the US harder than anywhere else.

    • @leeswecho
      @leeswecho ปีที่แล้ว +3

      it's costing much more, _way_ more, for the legacy automakers to produce EVs, than they are publicly letting on. It's well-known that right now only Tesla and BYD are making profits on selling EVs, but not so well known that the margins of some of their competitors are on the order of negative -100% or -200%. They have to keep selling ICE vehicles while they still can, to offset the bleeding on their EV side, and desperately buy time until they can figure out how to produce a car that can actually make a profit.

      @markluhman8940 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@leeswecho Ford just recently announced a 3 billion dollar lose this year on EV add in the 5 billion they lost previous two years, by the time they are full EV company they will be billions in the hole. Most EV manufactures are losing money. Here a great marketing plan for you "Rivian, an EV maker backed by Ford and Amazon, reported a net loss of $1.71 billion in the second quarter of 2022 based on $364 million in revenue." For every dollar they took in they lost 4,600 dollars, now that substantiality.

    • @scottbarrett4746
      @scottbarrett4746 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that's the only explanation. They think that political pressure will get them out of the hole they've put themselves in. The big problem they now face is not legislation but the market. Tesla and BYD are now making a profit selling electric cars and projected prices for them in the near future are less than equivalent ICE cars. Remember ICE car prices have gone up a lot in recent years due to inflation. Also some high prices for EVs cannot be sustained much longer against Chinese competition - cars like the electric Vauxhaul Corsa, Fiat 500 and others are stupid expensive here in the UK. People need to see where this is headed.

    Auto manufacturer CEOs are incompetent and it’s surprising how little they know of global strategies. Below are a list of facts and a question at the end. I’m sure most people would be able to figure out the answer, yet the CEOs of the largest corporations can’t.
    1. China is in serious financial trouble and if they don’t increase their GDP significantly soon, they will lose their global dominance if their financial system crashes.
    2. China has access to the largest deposits of rare earth metals necessary for battery and EV production.
    3. China has the largest car market in the world and any major auto manufacturer that loses its sales in China would collapse.
    4. Chinese car manufacturers dominate the EV market in China.
    5. The global elites have all jumped onto the environmentalism bandwagon and pro EV. There’s no turning back now.
    If you were the leader of China, what would you do to quickly accelerate GDP growth without pissing off the west?
    My answer: I would pass regulations that basically only allows EVs to be sold in China. It’s checkmate for western automakers. If they don’t produce EVs they lose the entire Chinese market. If they produce EVs they probably have to source materials from China for the batteries. Either way China wins and there’s not a single thing the west can say since this regulation falls right in line with their own agenda.
    I can’t possibly be the only one who sees this as obvious, right?

      "1. China is in serious financial trouble and if they don’t increase their GDP significantly soon, they will lose their global dominance if their financial system crashes."
      Wrong. China's internal demand is still strong and it's not in any financial trouble anywhere near the trouble you have in the US and Europe with banks failing, credit crunch etc. China doesn't need to increase its GDP and it will still be the most important real economy even with current GDP growth rate. China didn't follow western central banks in this unprecedented raising of interest rates so now China doesn't have to deal with the mess that such an abrupt raise causes.
      Lastly, China's financial system crashes?
      🤣🤣🤣
      Western self-claimed experts have been saying that for over 30 years. Will it finally happen now? I highly doubt it. Europe and US will crash first and China would experience a mild slowdown for a while but that's pretty much it as the west loses its global dominance for good.

    • @rebreaville9332

      Totally agree. Ford is in strong condition but Sam keeps on talking about F’s total debt. That ignores that most of the debt is simply car financing. While it may be possible that there will be defaults on that debt during a downturn, it’s not correct to say F is toast because of its debt. In fact, F’s EV investment is pretty impressive as is GM’s. Both of these companies are deep into the capital expenditure phase of their transition and EVs will not be profitable because of what are essentially startup costs. I like Sam. I don’t like his takes on debt, but I know he needs to put out a lot of content to pay bills so I am empathetic.

      You are correct, but bear in mind you are recording an asset it’s only when you realise that asset that you book the loss on it. All sorts of financial institutions, including auto are carrying colossal debts that they haven’t realised and “pretending” they still have assets on their balance sheet. Just because you have a balance sheet showing 1 million cars worth $20,000 each that does not make it so until you sell them on.

      Yes Sam glosses over a little but SMR explains the details. EV prices are going to keep heading down. The valuation of the used cars securing all this debt is already starting to collapse. When people get too far “underwater” with their car loans, a lot of them will chose to default. This will lead to the majors defaulting on the billions loans they borrowed to finance all those cars.

I believe a study was done that proved a 30% less co2 from coal to EV than ICE.

    China 6B emission regulation may seem difficult for non-hybrid ICEVs, but hybrid gas-electric vehicles can easily beat it.

    I don't think that there really will be many problems. Most cars already comply with China 6B, the lab test part. New in 6B however, is the requirement to meet certain Real Driving Emissions (RDE). This requires homologation and a test under strict conditions on the road. Manufacturers were given the option to register cars that comply with the lab test, but haven't undergone RDE homologation yet as "monitoring only". The backlog of 2 million cars we're talking about are these "monitoring only" cars. They can now be sold until the end of the year. By then all manufacturers must have their homologations in order.
