The EU will rise and fall based on its fundamental success. Trump's policies of forcing hard choices on the EU, specifically no longer allowing it to ride coattails on defense and trade, will put enormous pressure on it. I'd argue the EU is weakened by this and will fracture more.

They had to react like they were all together because they were scared of what would happen if it was a success. Things could still change for the UK as a free agent they don't have to ask to make any deal but who they are dealing with.

Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Stelantis, Siemens, Hella, Bosch, SAP all have factories and offices in Hungary, collectively employing tens of thousands of workers - supporting hundreds of thousands of other jobs in the country. Hungary, has never had it this good, and YET ... the large voting block of former communist grannies and alcoholic pensioners consistently vote for pro-Russian candidates because they are fed a diet of Russian propaganda through their media channels of choice - day in/day out - lamenting the simple times under Communist rule (which actually doesn't exist in Russia anymore, but they associate Putin with with that past).

Just an army. It's really there already (mostly). What is missing is a combined military budget to achieve economies of scale. It happens at some levels already, such as aircraft fighter programs. It needs to go further and remove its reliance on US military technology. So, no more German only made tanks and British made missile systems. The economy of scale through this integrated approach will afford a powerful defence of Europe. Sure, there will have to be horse trading about what is being built where, but this can be managed if you fear invasion and a collapse of your economy.

Trumps fails to understand how tariffs work. It's the people importing the goods that pay the tariffs which makes the imports more expensive for them. Typically this leads to them raising their prices which makes the items more expensive for people to buy once they reach stores etc. Only effect it can potentially have on foreign country is that people might order less from them due to the increased costs so they could lose some of their business but either way it will raise prices for consumers in the US. Another thing is that it can lead to retaliation from those other countries where they do the same in return.

From a young age, my father taught me that without the liberation by the USA in 1945, I might not have been here today. He always emphasized the importance of showing respect to America. I greatly admire Kamala; she performed exceptionally well in her role. No one could have done better, especially when facing an unqualified criminal opponent who has displayed dishonest behavior with deception and must be held accountable for his actions which I could never respect. The conduct of Trump, X, Elon, Fox News, Starlink, and the GOP is shameless and unacceptable for someone seeking the presidency. Kamala connects with all people, especially the younger generation, and has earned their support. It’s disheartening to see so many turn their backs on her. Kamala understands that the leaders of the most powerful country in the world must present themselves confidently and competently on the global stage. Trump has become a global joke! We shouldn’t undermine the capabilities of Kamala, who has an unparalleled intellect. Is this channel representative of what Europeans overall think? Or an echo chamber of voices concentrated around certain shared outlooks and opinions? Im in Europe. The EU has drifted far from its original purposes and role in my opinion. Its corrupt, undemocratic, pushes policies detrimental to the interests of individual countries and the native populations through coercive means. And its pretty much lock step with the establishment security orgs, politicians and groups like WEF running the west, what the people want be damned. But europe truly breaking up isnt feasible in my view. We have to work together to some degree. But as it operates and exists now the EU being ended, I support it and I dont think Brexit was as insane as some 'on the left' portray. They had some valid reasons. Just one person's viewpoint from Europe but I'm not alone.

We are too selfish and we are not aware that what we give, we will get. That happened with Brexit. Although I couldn’t vote at the time, I was a member of the party, but I turned my back on them because of Schroeder, who in my opinion moved the party too far to the right. The SPD seemed to forsake the people and the “social” part in their party’s name in favour of focussing more on business interests, hoping that Reagan’s trickle-down would somehow magically work here, even while it didn’t work in the US. Even now where I have dual citizenship due to Brexit, I have not voted for the SPD.

      well... both for different reasons
the EU is a threat to the US because with its united economic power, they just can't bully us into unfair deals... and with the united power we do have, if we enforce some rules and regulations (Brussels effect), at least for material things and they still want to profit on our market, they do have to comply. The EU rules and regulations are a big pain in the backside of US corporations who would want to skin us like they do with the US citizens. Instead, they can only fairly profit and the gains are lesser.
on the other hand, the united power of the EU prevent Russia from doing to the west of their borders what they did to the east in the 17thies. They did try, again and again, in the 18th and latter on, but they couldn't as there always was some roadblock in Europe. The closest they got was the Eastern Communist block. Just because a country had authority for a moment in time over a piece of land, does it mean the claim is legit... or we can go and accept the most craziest irredentists claims from former colonial powers (Spain, Portugal, UK, NL and France come to mind. They all controlled quite a big chunk of the globe at one time or another.)

Living conditions in the UK were abysmal for many before Brexit...whole swathes of the country have been forsaken...that's why people were duped into thinking the problem was Europe...when it's clear that the problem is inequality.

@@roberthudson3386 I totally agree there’s lots of things that could be better and I’m hopeful trump being elected will further incentivise Starmer to move closer to EU and quicker. Regarding being thankful for excellent prospects, I did say “my personal” implying my own experience. Appreciate not everyone may feel this but I’m just being honest. Was generally trying to call out others who feel they’re entitled to pigeon hole a whole country, which I would never dream of doing, especially to avoid looking like an ill-informed bigot.

This is what Trump thinks of Europe:
    1. Members of NATO need to step up their contributions to what their contributions should be
    2. Europe should never be dependent on Russia for energy
    3. Eliminate trade barriers between the USA and EU and UK, but any barriers to US trade will be met with equivalent tariffs
    4. Intermediate range nuclear missiles should be placed in Europe pointed at Russia

    • @gaetanhillion8342

      1. Members will indeed step ut their contributions, but if the us pull out, it won't have any money for that, goodby nato bribes !
      2. Yep, but should never be dependent period. I don't think he want an Europe independent from the USA ^^
3 . Not happening, especially because he will fire the first shot in the economic war.
      4. He can already do that with Alaska right ?

      Russia is Europe's natural ally.
The fact that we have been talked into believing that Russia is our archenemy is truly insane.
It's almost as insane as the statement that Russia is not a European country.
The moment we realise that, is the moment we will start to flourish.
