It happens at some levels already, such as aircraft fighter programs. It needs to go further and remove its reliance on US military technology. Sure, there will have to be horse trading about what is being built where, but this can be managed if you fear invasion and a collapse of your economy.

Why is this so? I think we can blame billionaires and big companies who have captured politicians and got laws and tax rates changed to suit them. One bad thing about EU is that a foreigner can not stay more than 6 months in all combined stays of EU. This is just one of them: Too many bureaucracies and wrong regulations in EU!!! In this sense, breaking up EU is not a bad choice in the point of view of non-EU people.
