This has been refreshing and its wholesome. After what feels like a long week of getting pelted and not feeling like I’m doing anything right. I just feel super happy to seeing you do some awesome breakfast food. Will be trying some next week. As my week is gonna began by stressful conflict at work. Wish me luck.

You're right Martina, sesame oil should totally be included in the taste pyramid, nothing else is like it. Just one drop and it completely transforms the dish.

it indeed makes it instantly bitter and less appetizing for me %-) . sesame in all it's forms is an spikey kind of bitter, i must be genetically burdened as not many people know what i mean with it. i generally taste more bitters then others. (i'm also on the side of tasting soap in coriander) despite my tasting, i love tasting new things and combinations. i have tasted a whole range of things with sesame in it, they were all bitter in a disappointing way and i still haven't managed to appreciate it, like i have for coffee, brocolli, brussel sprouts, beer, and many many vegetables,...

Hi Martina, I've been watching your videos since 2009 when you taught me a ton about Korea so I was confident when I travelled there myself in the past. I'm also a pretty frequent traveller to Japan so I enjoyed your videos about both. Because of covid I couldn't travel anymore so I really miss Japan a lot i was able to spend a lot of time there in the past and watching your videos makes me miss it even more LOL, You're really good at showing the small charms of Japan which is what I like about it as well. I hope your health is doing okay. Love the videos and can't wait for more :)

I've seen so many people make this spinach side dish and every single one of them they put ice cubes in the chill out water and use some sort of fancy cheese cloth to squeeze out the water from the cooked spinach. Who has time for that??? Thank you Martina for keeping it super easy for us

Martina, I share your love and passion for the store that starts with “D” and ends with “aiso”! Those kitchen gadgets are amazingly useful (and so cute)! If I ever get to visit Japan, I’ll need all three of those (rice drain guard, sugar de-clumper, and onion drain container). This video was a dose of relatability when it comes to “English-ing” in the morning (I just can’t do it). And I jive with your humour so much! Arnold’s “just chill” and your description of the umeboshi really got me hahaha. Thanks for the awesome video; the food is drool-worthy!

If you don't have dashi broth, you can just sprinkle in powdered dashi or katsuobushi with more soy sauce to achieve the same flavor.

Oh wow Martina this meal looks amazing. When I was a child and dad was in the Australian Army, we got posted to Malaya (that’s what it was called in the 1960’s). I spent most of my days with our housekeeper who was Chinese and she cooked her meals in her living space. I would eat my meals with her because they appealed more to me. Since then I have tried and loved many Asian cuisines and Japanese and Chinese are my all time favourites. I love all the salty, savoury flavours the most and often eat Japanese for breakfast. Although I’ll eat it anytime lol. Since Covid, ingredients are hard to order online now and that’s the only way for me to get them as we live in a small country village 567 people lol. I cannot wait for it all to come back online cause I’m feeling like my tastebuds are screaming out for goodness lol. I’m thrilled to see you living life in Japan again Martina. Michelle

Love Daiso! I use their microwavable containers to make instant ramen, cook spaghetti--no pot needed. FYI my Costco sells jars of anko spread with butter. It's wonderful on toast, ice cream or just straight out of the jar lol!

I just woke up and starting to make strawberry green tea, and heard Martina reference "Batman & Robin" with Arnie as Mr. Freeze and nearly spewed my tea. LOL. Thanks Martina, I am not morning person either, but your video helped with that today.

GURL You Embrace the Morning More than I do. Making Coffee is my Supreme Effort after a couple of cups and an hour or more, I can finally get up and start my day. Usually in front of the screen watching Youtey. Bigg Huggs !! Doing is a Rung On The Ladder, it doesn't matter what, Just DO. There One Rung Up. !!

I cant eat and ramen without some sesame oil. It literally makes any ramen taste 1000% better. I also have an insane spice tolerance so i always add chili oil into my ramen to make it spicy.
