Fair play to you for taking on these big jobs! I was offered a big job last year. A day a week. I lost confidence and panicked last minute. Talked myself out if it. I regret it but its all a learning curve I guess. Keep it up!

Nicely done on the hedge, what ladder do you use it looks foldable to fit inside the van rather than on top
Yeah it’s a little giant ladder folds small could fit in the smallest of spaces but opens up quite big for everyday hedge work
I equally love the tripods

Just mowing hedge work and leafs in the winter plus dumping waste with the tractor to the bonfire it’s literally the best contract 👌🏼

Interesting looking ladder... What is it? Been using a 8ft tripod-ladder for the past ten years. It's handy, but yours looks compact and as useful.
Hi mate mines a little giant ladder they are compact for storage but open up to be big ladders if needed

Some cracking work there.
I really admire the larger landowners who like to keep their more formal areas managed by gardeners. Says a lot about their ethics on land management rather than this obsurd 'rewilding' which some just use as an excuse to be lazy. Im seeing it backfire with certain weeds (like common hogweed and carex pendula) taking over, and effectively putting bits of land backwards.

Fantastic hedge reduction mate it looks better 👍 I did a similar height one 3 years ago,the neighbour from hell deliberately put a chunk of concrete in the top of the hedge to try and destroy my hedge cutters but luckily I spotted it 👍

@@mdgardenservices7819 thank you mark I recently let a few others go and freed up alittle space as I had planned on going to 4 days a week but then this one turned up and financially was too good to turn down
I’m hoping they’ll let me film more as there’s so much to do here and so much to see it’s going to keep us busy that’s for sure

Good work mate, look into getting some bull horn trimmers and a harness will save so much effort, we use FS461C's with an advanced Stihl Harness and I can strim for hours on end with it will also save your back and energy.

I won’t be short this year I’ll have work everyday now all year round it’s good but will catch up with me

My best advice for big jobs like this is price right if you go in too cheap it won’t work I went in at a decent rate and they accepted

In the past I’ve got my pricing wrong on big jobs but I went in at a better rate on this one and it was accepted which I’m pleased about as it’s a lot of work
It’s a full on day and right at the end of the week when your burning out from the rest of the week so you have to dig deep on a Friday
There’s plenty of winter work at this one which is what we all worry about in the winter it should take that anxiety away about money worries in the winter

Hi Pete. Great video. I see here you are doing some ride on mowing at your new big job. One of my customers asked me today his friend has got a big area of land and a ride on mower and is looking for me to go up every 2 to 3 weeks. Im used to residential work but if its just my time to do the ride on im a bit of a novice? Should i give him a rate by the hour ? Help 😮
@@rosspark3522 ask them how long it takes them to mow it so you’ve got a rough idea if he says for example two hours
work out what that would be if you did hourly rate then add abit more on
Again so say you charge £30 an hour that would be £60 do t charge £60 go( £75-£80) set price
That’s how I’d play it remember set price you can always make alittle more and if you do it quicker than the expected time your quids in
I just want to see us earn the right sort of fair money as it’s a hard old job and cripples our body’s so why shouldn’t we charge the right for our work

You did the right thing in doing it if that was me and the neighbour came out I would have said your neighbour is paying me to do it so what else can I do
It’s such a grey area but it’s more my clients side of the boundary
How do you find jobs like this for the winter ? Coz that’s what I’m worried about when starting my own gardening business, work drying up in winter
@@MattCooper10 Hi Matt it doesn’t dry up really we loose some day light hours but there’s always hedge cutting leaf clearing cutting back in some beds and borders there’s also clearing leafs from gutters literally all sorts you just have to think alittle outside the box sometimes but I’ve been going 6 years and always had winter work
You might get to also turn compost bins and it mind sound boring or like hard work but pays the bills etc
You’ll be totally fine mate if you do get a gap advertise for the jobs I’ve stayed above and you’ll get work 💪🏼

Hello and Congratulations for getting a large property to do. Will they be able to keep you busy in the winter time with tasks? Some lawn care workers in the Northern US states put snow plows on their trucks to keep an income flow going during the winter months.

Being a huge property they have tools for every situation we’re lucky that we don’t really get proper snow like you guys get in the us or tho now I’ve said that we probably will lol 😂

Tried that tip of mulching the hedge trimmings in lawnmower but found that it broke my mulching plug . Does this happen with all models or do you not use a plug. Must be some of the thicker cuts smashing the plastic
@@AM-wt8qi I actually don’t use the multching plug just run the mower over the top and it works a treat 👌🏼
@@THETATTOOGARDENER83 ok maybe a better idea as don’t think plugs are meant to withstand that . Some would hit the flap at back of mower but maybe be it’s stronger plastic. Deck k seems to withstand it even though it is plastic also. Some of the branches do hit it with some force. Am thinking mulching plug is good for instant mulch on grass but once it’s full of grass it must to much the same thing just rotating the trimmings into a finer mix.
LHL has a Sherpa Bravo Roughcutter for thoes overgrown gardens , fits through a standard gate , would be ideal for you expensive , seems your going into bigger properties , , downside do have space for it. storage etc , just a thought , great proprieties there mate, , the football i dont think my fingernails will take any more , LOL

Wow! That’s massive. I’m going to ask the question you may not answer. If they asked you to do 5 days a week. Would you? We all like the loyalty we give to some of our customers but that looks a job that would be hard to refuse.

However, if the money was right, I mean wow then it might be a difficult one to turn down
Even us doing one Full Day every Friday with two of us works out about £22,000 a year so if you did five days a week ridiculous money
I wouldn’t blame anyone for considering it you’d have to be mad to turn down £108,000 a year
For me I’m happy doing the Fridays right now

Big jobs are a folly mate you will earn just as much cutting ten lawns on an estate for £25 back and front as you will getting knackered on these big estates .
@@OFP2 that can be the case some of the time as I’ve found out in the past but I made sure we charged well for it to be worth our while
It will give us plenty of winter work when my smaller jobs tail off
We’re charging way more than £25 an hour per man so over a year it’s epic for one client it’s almost double my yearly turn over 💪🏼

@@daveh1081 ideally you need 40cc plus, i run mine on a jonsered 2145 ( husky 345 ) once you have it spinning, momentum does most of the work, never have to run over half throttle

i dont like being at the same job to long but if they are prepared to pay you what you want to be there full time imagine what you'd save on traveling between jobs. bit of a gamble maybe worth considering.if it went tits up you'd be starting from scratch 🤔

To someone starting out this would be like winning the jackpot and great place to learn your trade
Equally we’re super excited about taking it on and seeing how it goes they’ll be everything from mowing hedge work strimming driving tractors it’s year winter work too which will be a real help as lots of smaller jobs tail off
I’m the same with some jobs I understand the being stuck at one place all day but as we found today because we were flat out from min 1 the day went so fast so that can only be a good thing
There’s nothing worse than being at a big job and scratching because your ahead
Thankfully that will never be the case here as it’s so big

We can only do a day a week which is 16 man hours unless they agree to a third person which I can arrange if needed
My other clients are regular bread and butter with them and this one we’re guaranteed winter work aswell

I think it’s easy to charge per hour at big jobs like this
@@THETATTOOGARDENER83 yeah I’m the same, I’ve been 25 ph since 2018 now the new ones this year have been 30.
Some big ones I do wonder to give a tad discount as I’ve no travel time that day? Toughest part is quoting (for me)
