Well Dave in 1971 I had just left school and started my first job as an apprentice motor mechanic.
Decimal currency had just been introduced too.
Yes I really am that old. ☹
Bet you don't feel quite so old now do you? 😉
The track looks fantastic and racing back in those days really was dangerous with many tragic deaths.
Thank goodness safety has improved over the years.
    Great video as usual.

My good sir, I hope you're well. I've read your comment and visited your channel, it opened my eyes. We younglings (I'm 35 now) sometimes suffer too much from anxiety, stress and other things... Sometimes it feels like I'm so tired of this life... Sometimes I don't have the energy or the courage to even launch an online race out of fear to what might happen. Fear I might upset someone, ruining their race, or that I might get upset because of an incident or because I'm not super fast... I see you and I feel ashamed of these feelings. I feel motivated to get to your age as well as you did. You're out there having fun, streaming to your friends and small but close community. I want my son to feel proud of me the same way I'm feeling proud of you right now. Thank you.

Nice to see iRacers checking out AMS2. I really love that game, and was disappointed when it didn't immediately get huge traction, but it's good to see that slowly changing over time.
I think the track is a lot more fun to race now days, as there's less problematic bumps and a bit more room to manoever and pass. It's awesome to have an option to experience it how it was back in the day though.

Some years ago I heard that all records of the exact layout and topography of the old Sudschleife were lost to history, or at least very hard to track down.
If true, then the amount of work that went into reconstructing the circuit to this level of detail is nothing short of amazing. No doubt there would be very educated guesswork to fill in the missing parts. But to me it represents a true collaboration between historians, racing enthusiasts, and game developers, to get this product made.
They say you need a whole village to raise a child, and that’s very true here.

That shed was Jimmy Broadbent's old place if I'm not mistaken...
Racing drivers of the 60's and 70's had ice water in their veins and huge eggs in their trousers.

Hi Dave, the Südschleife will be close to the real track of 1971, but please note that some parts if the track in the AMS2 version are more modern than they should be. Some corners were much more narrow than today. Some examples are Hohe Acht, Mutkurve, Eiskurve. Please compare this track with AC mod Nürburgring 1967 for AC. You may will find a lot of differences …

Intresting history point. This historic version is based on the ring just after the safety refit. Too many f1 drivers were dying so they refused to race it until safety changes were made. This nightmare track is the safe one in their eyes...

If I was to send it from where I am on the other side of the world (which in 1971 would be by surface mail as air mail still wasn't as popular) it would take a month. But as British comedian once said "We shouldn't be called Australia, you should just be called FAR"

Historic racing is just tops. Not tried this new addition yet, will be soon. Dave if you like old school, try the classic Irish Dundrod circuit in Fractor2 with the 55 endurance mod cars. All easy got via workshop. Gplaps is worth a YT follow, he's the most knowledgeable on all historic SIM racing.
