- In the last 25 years, this African country has shown tremendous amount of economic growth and progress in human development indexes. So much so that it is regarded as the Singapore of Africa. This is Rwanda. But how did Rwanda manage to recover so well and become one of the cleanest countries in the world? In this video, I tell the story of this small African nation. The secret lies not only in strict laws like banning plastic bags but also in the word - Umuganda. In this ground report from Kigali, I explain all this.

Shortly after the start of the war, the FPR created its own radio station, Radio Muhabura.
In March 1992, Radio Rwanda began to broadcast false information regarding the possible assassination of Hutu officials, after which many Tutsis were consequently killed in the Bugesera region.

So after rawanda genocide _ tutsis took over the power(rpf), making a hutus president to show equality but in reality just after a time the vice president who is a tutsi became president and still holding the power unethically. Hutus can't protest because the country doesn't have freedom of speech meant the country isn't democratic yet.

I am a first hand witness to this stunning turn around. Visiting Kigali and walking around its streets literally shocked me. The genocide memorial is something unforgettable. Yet, they have turned things around. The most stable country in Africa possibly! May it grow to further heights and be an example to everyone.

Rwanda has become one of the cleanest nations on Earth because of its ambitious environmental goal of “increasing forest cover to 30 percent of total land area by 2020,” per the World Economic Forum. To achieve this, the country has undertaken massive reforestation and tree-planting efforts.

I remember watching movie hotel Rwanda. It's a good movie about real life genocide in Rwanda. Sufferings and struggles teaches people to rise again. This country literally went through a gen0cide and now is the safest country in Africa.
Due to shortage of men to run country, they started recruiting women in political position. And society in one stroke became quite feminist. Women centric rules were implemented thus breaking patriarchal society's culture.

Thanks for this video Dhruv! With so much positive changes in a span of 20 years some negative things are bearable with the hope that these negativities will be also gone in some time. The story of Rwanda is an eye opener for many countries in the world and their people.
This shows even small countries can also become the best in an entire continent.
Rwanda airport used to be my favorite transit ... unlike other airport, in Rwanda, pay $30 for the lounge, eat and drink as much as you can and rest on nice couches with free internet. Kigali is actually clean, been there.
I first learned about the Rwandan genocide from the movie "Hotel Rwanda". Heart touching story, based on real events.

I have been to Kigali many years ago and I was pleasantly surprised how clean the city was, then I learnt about civilians getting down on the streets to clean the city! Amazing ❤️

The main problem is supreme court if government takes an action the court will oppose it , that's the real problem of India, at the same time democratic countries like Usa court and government have same strategy to implement law , punishment, etc....
Highly doubtful. It takes humility to clean up after urself. Indians think only the poor/low caste people clean. Most would never see cleaning as a form of duty.
