Yessss…what a great mix of trail footage, camp life, scenery, humor, and useful info...including certain topics that rarely get covered in overland videos. That campsite with the view was epic. I especially like your message that you don't need to be outfitted with every fashionable bit of gear in order to get out there...it's SO do-able on a very small budget, and every bit as rewarding. Thanks for another awesome episode!
Thanks Donald! I've always wanted to do a video on Pooping in the woods. That's the single biggest thing that keeps people from remote camping. I'm so glad to finally do a segment on it! We both know, you need alot to overland, but you don't need anything fancy. Mostly everything someone would need can be purchased at Walmart :P BTW, I love Vegan onion taco's! Especially when topped with Carne Asada, Cheese and Sour Cream :P I think I might be onto something here, HYBRID VEGAN CUISINE!
We have the same toilet set-up. After years of digging a hole, this was our big "luxury" upgrade several years ago and at our ages (61) my wife and I have to come to appreciate the ease and cleanliness of the WAGG bags! Overlanding, camping, hiking, grilling, kayaking, drinking beer, and shooting guns.............life doesn't get any better!
Great job with your filming and production. I like that you make no bones about the passport's capabilities, and that you take it all in stride. You've gained a sub, sir! Keep up the great videos!
OH NOES! I didn't know what you meant by that so I "googled" it. I really hope they don't de-monetize my video because of the short gun clip. I personally don't own a traditional firearm, but I feel the need to be able to defend myself when I'm out in the middle of no where. I have this unconventional projectile weapon (that I really don't want to share), bear spray, hunting knife and wrestling skills (oooooooooh yeaaaaaahhhh). Welp, I hope the TH-cam Gods take mercy on me. As always, thanks for watching and your support Mr. SLaughter.
I saw part 1 and wondered if you would go to the lava tubes. I took my lowered 1990 Accord out there almost 20 years ago and they actually have a groomed road now! I was surprised I made it, and so was everyone else! Keep up the great videos. I am considering a Ridgeline and your videos are making me more comfortable with that decision. I want to be able to do similar off-road things and I am impressed with your Passport in these situations. Like you, I was considering a Tacoma as well and also like you, it is a bit more tight, though I do actually fit fairly comfortably. Just not as well as the Ridgeline. We have a 2019 Pilot AWD and I have been impressed with it so far.
I really like how the redesigned 2021 Ridgeline looks. I’m a little jealous because I know the passport will eventually get the dame front end. Oh well, it’s just aesthetics. I highly recommend a 2020+ Ridgeline for the ZF9. I have a video where I drive up to 10k feet and a 2019 Ridgeline couldn’t make it with the Honda 6spd.
Thanks for taking us along on your AZ trip. Off Topic, we started a lease on a 2019 subaru Forester. Would you have any suggestions on an aggressive tire that would fit our stock rims. 225 60R 17 .Since it is a lease we can not do too many modifications but more traction would be nice. Any information would be greatly appreciated. THANKS
Tumbleweed 69 I hope I don’t sound like a terrible person, but I say get the tallest tires you can possible mount to your Forester. 🤣🤣🤣. Seriously! This will mean that your odometer will read lower, saving you from having to pay for going over your mileage. Hey, it’s not our fault these machines can detect a change in the circumference of a tire. Let’s say you go with a 29 inch tire, 235/65R17. You’re odometer would be off by 5.1% 😇 perfect for a lease. Just change tires back to stock when your done. As far as a tire choice: -Best balance of fuel efficieny and mild capability: Yokohama G015 -Middle of the road: Cooper Discovery AT3 4S or Hankook dynapro AT2’s -for hardcore tires you’ll have to go with 225/65R17’s which is a 28.5 inch tire. @JonDZ Adventuring. I'm thinking about buying a Passport, but wanted to know your thoughts. I plan to do some light off roading and perhaps sand on the beach. Nothing too drastic.
I'm here for the Subarus lol nice video, I love trips with an equal balance of obstacles and scenery. Plan on overlanding with Treky eventually when I get her more set up. Took a really nice camping trip to test out camping out of a Crosstrek and it was actually really nice. Won't be doing a full camping video until I get some better footage though.
We had some Subaru Super Stars in this one, so I hope you really enjoyed that. I really love those Full Force Metal Works and Stellar Built bumpers. Man, you don't need much to get out and overland. You just need the bare essentials: Skid plates, full size spare, recovery gear, offroad jack, sleeping system, LOTS OF DRINKABLE WATER (bottled or tap), and the means to eat meals. Well.... I guess is that is a quite a bit of things, but.... you don't need anything fancy, and I hope I got that message across in this video!
@@JonDZ_Adventuring my next step is bumpers and winch (will be building it ourselves) as far as survival goes, I packed my car down (and then some) and went up a pretty rough climb to go camping. Now I know she can haul what I want, and more, and wheel while under load. Was impressed and super comfortable with my sleeping arrangements. Food, water, and cooking isn't an issue if you know what to take and how to pack (video idea) but I don't have a full sized spare. Need one and will be building a swing arm to hold it on the rear bumper.
Just like my setup for sleeping inside the car. I don't like the idea of a trailer or a rooftop tent. Way too much trouble, weight, displaced center of gravity, etc.
D. Alex Oprea well, as you can SEE I agree with you 110% 😇. I’m very much against a RTT unless it’s Mounted just above a truck bed or being pulled on a trailer (I respect other people’s decisions to run them, I respect all builds). But even in those configurations, they still take time and effort to setup and pack down. I do a lot of “ski bumming”, and driving into the snowy woods, pulling over, transitioning from the driver seat to my pre inflated mattress in the back (without having to step outside) is simply awesome! Also, during last winter, I had a bear encounter. A bear was sniffing my ride. I was able to lay into the horn, start my engine and drive away a little bit (Bugged Out) to scare him away, all within about 30 seconds.
As always, great Honda Passport video. Question: Does the Honda Navigation show these off-road trails, and if it does, does it also show bread-crums? Or, if you use Waze, does that show these off-road trails?
Rick Funk I have the EX-L model, so it doesn’t have built in Navigation. BUT!! Apple car play is amazing! I use google maps and it seems that even if I don’t save the area before time, these little roads still pop up on the map. Just as long as I have google maps up, I’m able to navigate. Rick, im going camping this weekend, I’ll do a little Instagram post about this and link it to this comment.

Steely Dan unfortunately yes... and I HATE IT! I feel it serves no purpose since it only turns off the engine for 1-1/2 minutes at a time. What good will that do? While on the trails, it’s a LIABILITY! For example, let’s say you’re on a fairly steep hill, you come to a quick stop, and then you continue up that hill. When the brake is applied from a dead stop, even for a short moment, “hill hold assist” will hold the passport in place long enough for it to get forward movement. With auto stop/start, if it engages on a steep hill, when the engine comes back on, Hill Hold will NOT ENGAGE, the passport will fall backwards. What a bummer huh? 🤣🤣🤣 There’s a way to permanently disable it by splicing some wires together. I may try it one day.
@@tonychau1983 My thoughts, the Pilot has the disable button although every key on it must be disabled again. There is a thread in the Pilot forums where a member jumped the switch and the auto off never engages.
T Jessica the difference between the two vehicles is the transmission. The Honda Ridgeline only come with the Honda 6speed, which lacks the crawl capability. That transmission is prone to overheating. The Passport comes with the newly revised ZF9 speed. This transmission was problematic in 2016-2018 vehicles. Faulty parts, seals, sensors, incorrect assembly, laggy programming... all those things plagued the 1st generation ZF9 speed. The new version should have had those issues addressed. I only have experience with the new version, and it’s been great so far. So, I can’t recommend a Honda Ridgeline. If I were you, I’d choose between a Tacoma TRD off-road or a Passport.
.... but of course.... it depends on what you’d use the vehicle for. If you won’t use these vehicles for the stuff I do, and you’ll just use it to drive around town, I’m sure the Ridgeline will be fine 😇
Loved my Gen1 Ridgeline. It was perfect for my needs. Decent mpg on trips (23-24 @ 70mph), hauled all the lumber and stone I needed for household projects, trips to the dump, etc. Was a great daily commuter as well. Blew the radiator and that took out the tranny at the same time or I’d still have it. After repairs traded it on a Suburban, which I later traded for my (current) Toyota FJ. Wish I still had the Ridgeline or the Suburban.
justin brown I have a 19.5 gallon gas tank which gives me a lot of range. I have more range than other people I’ve been riding with. However, I still plan to carry them at some point. my original plan is to mount them in my cargo carrier. But it really doesn’t make sense to have them up there all the time, So I’ll just carry extra fuel in my hitch cargo carrier.
@@JonDZ_Adventuring that's starting to sell me on a passport big time. The xt on average is getting 25mpg but i barely last a week on 40 mile total commute per day.

A Subie with a T- case would be a dream come true, mine suffers from lack of a low ratio and I have to take obstacles at speed (not always the best or most comfortable approach)
I'd love to see Subaru get back to getting more serious about their offroad prowess. I'm not sure if the Older Subaru's ever had transfer cases, I know they atleast had dual range manual gear boxes.
