    The tin cup totally worked on me. I'm a sucker for a gimmick, especially if it makes me feel like I got something for free.

    The Tincup whiskey is mostly MGP too. The label states it is a high rye bourbon distilled and aged in Indiana, then mixed with a small amount of Colorado Single Malt.

      There are a few oddities out there that don't use a green label. Taconic's rye has a grey/off-white label whereas their bourbon has a dark green one.

      well, corn is yellow but also has green, barley grain is also somewhat brown but also has green, and finally, rye is also brown with green. So I HAVE NO IDEA!!!!

  • @FawleyJude

    Thanks for pointing out that this is distilled in Indiana, not Colorado. Tincup whiskey was being marketed like it was some kind of craft distillery product made in Colorado, with a price to reflect that, when in fact it was mass-produced Indiana product that was only bottled in Colorado. There was a class action suit against Proximo , who owns Tincup, for false advertising, which resulted in a $425,000 settlement. Tincup's okay for drinking, but no better than a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 which costs a lot less.

  • @iissamiam

    I have a couple used barrel questions. How long do barrels last? I imagine it varies by climate. But within the same climate, does how it's used change things? Is there a different longevity between a barrel aging one whiskey for 20 years vs a barrel aging 5 whiskeys for 4 years each?
    Are barrels that produce exceptional whiskeys, like single cask releases, given more attention for reuse?
    Also, a crazy idea. If you had, say, a used bourbon barrel and a used sherry barrel that where made by the same cooperage, could you take them apart, and rebuild the barrels with mixed staves? Might make for some interesting finishing.

    • @cr4zyj4ck
      @cr4zyj4ck 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can re use a barrel, but it will have different characteristics the second time around.
      You must realize, though, you can never, ever, make a bourbon in a used barrel. By law, all bourbon must be aged on new oak. No sherry aged bourbon allowed!

    Isn't the regular Tin Cup American Whiskey just MGP bourbon mixed with a splash of Stranahans and proofed down with Colorado spring water? Not that there is anything wrong with that, just wonder why the boys are surprised the Rye is also sourced.

    • @stewmac23
      @stewmac23 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      contentioushackery That is the exact story you will hear on a tour at Stranahan’s with the addition that Jess Graber moved to Indiana and started growing corn, then started distilling again and had Stranahan’s bottle it under the Tin Cup brand.

    Which Rye(s), in your opinion, are actual "Rye" tasting as in not MGP tasting rye, Crafted Rye I guess would be the term? I have tried Pikesville, Tincup and OF Rye. All taste great but when i think of rye I think of spice, rye bread, anise, caraway notes, etc... seem to be absent or buried in the ones I have tried.

    I like Tin Cup. I have several jigger cups in the cupboard, trying to figure out a neat thing to do with them. I love their bottle. The glass is thick and the bottle is singularly beautiful. And the taste is great. Wish we had a lot more 'American Whiskies' to choose from. Don't understand it. Will try the rye, even if it's distilled in Indiana (darn it!).
    As an aside, why do I go digging through my liquor cabinet after watching the Vault? It's almost as bad as watching a cheeseburger video at 11pm. I'm screwed if I do that.

  • @StillLivinginthewoods
    @StillLivinginthewoods 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have to admit that I hold MGP up as the benchmark for rye whisky.
    NOT because I am young and it's the only kind I've had (I'm pushing fifty) but because it is SO damned GOOD!
    Willett and Sazarac are both really good non-MGP ryes that still have that spicy flavor that I love too.
    Sorry Balcones, but I don't want my rye whisky to taste like coffee.

    1. why have i never heard of a whiskey made with spelt as at least one of the grains?
    2. whenever people talk about ex bourbon casks its always super general. But my expectation would be that an ex Stag cask would be very different from an ex four Roses cask. do distillers take this into account?

      They have had a few episodes where they pulled a bunch of rye down.

    I get mustard seed out of a lot of the super high rye stuff. Am I the only one?

    A good bean counter like me, who also happens to drink rye whiskey, would want to know how much that little tin cup affects sales. If it doesn't offset enough of the cost to justify it, I would recommend that you get rid of it.

      dskwared2u to be fair, I feel like they’re entirely committed to the bit, and to back out of adding a cup to the bottle literally called “Tincup” would be a snowball of entirely rebranding everything at great expense

    I think I've been watching too much tv in quarantine but I think a whisky bottle beauty paegent would make a great tribe episode. Categories include: best curvy, best fiddlybit, classic timeless beauty, bikini and folklore

    I don't drink a huge amount of rye. But thankfully I've never gotten a black licorice note because I hate black licorice.
