Agreed! That's why they call it a Sig. Both outstanding guns! Glock is a Swiss Army Knife and Sig is a Cadillac. All depends on which you feel like today. Buy both. You won't be disappointed.
I’ve always been a hammer fired guy myself. Nothing wrong with Glocks, other than their lack of beauty 😂. My heart sits with 1911s, but I’m definitely a Sig fan. I love the reliability, the all metal frame, and the sassy curves.
I still have a 226 that I bought new in 1988. Thousands of rounds through it. Sent it to Sig several years ago to have it tuned up, trigger job and feed ramp polished. Wouldn’t trade it. I have others M17, X10, 1911. But my 226 is my favorite.
I have the Legion 226 SAO with the 18 rnd mags and it serves as my bedside gun. I take it to the range all the time. It’s a phenomenal shooter, hands down one of my favorites along with its little brother the legion P229 SAO. These are two guns I would never sell. Great for the range and practical for home defense.
I have a p365 xmacro for edc and I like the length on the grip, it just fills my hand nicely since it’s a little longer in comparison to my 320xcompact. I’m stuck between a 226 or 229 legion sao for a range/home defense gun. Any guidance you could offer?
@ I have them both and I can not part with either. The 226 is a tank, if I had to only pick one I would probably go with the 226, longer barrel and it can do all well. Yet if you’re ever looking to conceal carry better to go with the 229. Can’t go wrong with either. Sorry, I know this is not helpful, really hard to choose between these two, reason I got them both I guess. Check your local gun store and see which one feels better in your hand none will disappoint you.
The SAO trigger gives the same pull for every shot, in addition to being incredible. The 226 SAO also allows a round to be chambered or a press check with the safety on, unlike a 1911. One of my favorites.
I'm so close to purchasing the SAO, but I just picked up a Sig 1911 that isn't even broken in yet and it's baby brother the P938 Legion. Yes I'm a Sig fan, and I've had my eye on the P226 SAO for a while. Always wanted a 226 but I'm not a huge fan of DA/SA. My first carry was a Beretta PX4 Storm subcompact DA/SA decocker etc, and it was great but times have changed. I'm much more comfortable with SA triggers.
I've owned my SIG Sauer P226 MK25 9mm Luger pistol since around 2012. I bought it used for $730, if memory serves. It came with the SIG short reach trigger and short reset trigger installed, three standard SIG 15-round magazines, plus three 18-round Mec-Gar flush-fit magazines. I love it. It fits my hand like a glove, and I really like the DA/SA trigger. It's so soft-shooting, and has such a smooth operation - it screams QUALITY! Terrific accuracy, too... better than any of my other 9mm Luger pistols from Glock, Springfield Armory XDm, S&W M&P M2.0, shooting off-hand out to 100 yards. It's been totally flawless for my almost 11 years of ownership and thousands of rounds sent down range. The only thing I changed on it was putting on Hogue grips, and Trijicon HD tritium night sights (after the original Siglight night sights dimmed). The one thing I would like to add/change about this pistol is add checkering to the grip front strap. For a long time this was my EDC during the cool/cold months of the year, at which time it was carried in a leather shoulder rig. It's still my primary home-defense pistol. However, these days my EDC is a smaller, lighter, 15+1 round, 4" striker fired polymer wonder pistol. This is the one pistol I'll never sell. It'll stay with me until my time here on this Earth is done, at which point it will go to my son. Good things! 👍
Upgrades! I also installed Hogue G10 to my Mk.25 to reduce trigger reach which made a difference. I was going to install short reach trigger for the same reason but the G10 was enough. I have run short reset trigger back to back with my stock Mk.25. While there is a difference, they were close. I'll stay with stock.
One of my favourite pistols in terms of aesthetics. Absolutely gorgeous. If I lived in America, I would have to own one as soon as physically possible.
@@Dominator5515 it is totally personal preference, but I love how they do their front and back slide serrations, and how the controls match up to the grip panels. I also love how the tall slide looks.
@@unclegene5372 don't even have to ask Uncle Joe "Brandon" Aunt Nancy, or Uncle Chuck........ In fact NO NEED to even check in....Just walk on over.... In fact he'll give you FREE food stamps, medical coverage and housing for any inconveniences....... 😊😡🤦♂😡😡
I carried a 226 for 5 years. Best shooting gun in that design ever. After about 6k rounds it became so smooth it was 1911 type smooth if I may. Have yet to shoot the X5 Legion, but when it comes to hammer fired guns, Sig 226's are incredible
Yep. My MK25 (with Short Reset Trigger and Sig's Action Enhancement Package) has about 7,500 rounds through it and operates "smooth as butter". I keep trying other guns but always return to the P226.
I have owned the 226 legion for probably 5 years or so. Absolutely beautiful gun, everything they added improved on the already stellar 226 model. G10 grips, the night sights everything about this gun is worth the price. Never had an issue with it and will make an awesome gun to pass down one day. Love it and have nothing bad to say about it.
I have my 226 that I was issued when I started my law enforcement career. I haven't carried it in some time, but I would on a whim. I typically carry a P365XL these days. I own some Glocks, Rugers etc, but my 226 is still my favorite handgun. I love Smith & Wesson revolvers also, so I guess I'm old school.
Thanks for putting on a show with the Legion P226. I just got its little brother the compact P229 Legion RXP, and it is, as you say, a sweet pistol. Yes, sir, they do rock. The weight is no problem. It's the OG of a historic pistol.
Same here just picked up the p229 legion rxp only shot it once though. Kinda heavy but a really nice gun it was on my list of guns to purchase but will definitely not be trading it in for something else!!!!
I bought my Sig 226 40 cal duty sidearm after I retired. I still shoot that gun better than my 9mm handguns. Its not a concealed carry by any means but for home defense and just going to the range, it still delivers.
I have one in the same caliber as well (20 years). Great shooting gun, I am able to achieve better accuracy with it than with my Glock 22. The only improvement could be the DA trigger. The shorter reset would make it perfect.
My P226 is my home defense gun, with a light on it. I have a MK25, but I put a short reset kit in it. My carry guns are a P229, and a GP100 4" My P226 was my first auto pistol I bought, love the thing!
@@jaya3597 not really. Both are quite soft shooting guns. the p226 is slightly more tame since it is a bigger gun. I prefer the p229 overall since it is basically the same and it is easier to conceal but here are some differences in my guns: the p226 mk25 has a true 1913 rail which is nice, but I didn’t have any issue putting my tlr7a on the sig rail for the p229. Mk25 also has phosphate coated corrosion resistant internals. the grips are different since I got the mk25. I personally like the e2 grips on the p229 versus the classic grips on the mk25. Note: removing and reinstalling e2 grips may cause them to loosen slightly. I removed mine once to do the srt install and they felt loose after but have since tightened back up so take that however you will.
I have a German made P226, from the late 90's. It's easily my favority handgun, it lives attached to the side of my bed while I sleep (I have no kids), and frequently carry it during the colder times of the year OWB. It a fantastic shooter, and I prefer the DA/SA style as I can then carry with peace of mind that it won't have an ND. Thumb on the hammer when holstering is extra protection against an ND. Can't say enough positive things about this firearm.
Have had my P226 Legion now for about 6 years or so. It’s in .357 sig and I bought the .40 caliber barrel for it also, so I can shoot either, which was nice when the ammo shortage hit! I do enjoy this pistol, no plastic parts or pieces, hence the weight. I’ll carry it in the winter, outside the waste band, with a jacket covering it. I have properly with my own range( Not as nice as yours) and I will usually shoot it once a month ( 200 rounds or so).
Got the Sig 226 Legion and absolutly love it. Looks great and shoots even better. I like a heavier pistol at the range, and the extra weight, great trigger and good standard sites make it a lot of fun.
I carry a 226 or 229 everyday and have for 10 years. One of my P226s has over 30,000 rds through it with only two misfires both of which were ammo related. One bad prime, another round was missing its primer. Just this last year sent it in to Sig for check-up.😊
I just bought a P226 legion optics ready this week, mostly because it was on my list as an iconic gun. More than that, it was the true winner of the XM9 context back in the day, only losing the contract because the Beretta was cheaper. The thing fired over 2800 rounds without failure compared to the Beretta's 1700. Both magnificent guns, but since I already have the M9A3, I needed it's modern day arch nemesis.
years back i was double action only, after going a couple years with very little shooting i decided to learn to like double to single action after watching one of hickoks vids years back (over 10 years ago). now my sig 226 is far my favorite range/home defense/open carry pistol. Thanks hickock!!
Older SIGs like the P226 and P229 as well as CZ 75 variants are my favorites. The trigger pull variation is not an issue with me, but the extra safety margin is. I am range challenged since a move a couple of years ago, but that appears to be changing so I am looking forward to spring as it’s still cold up here in the Alleghenies. One of the nice things about the 226 and 229 is (or perhaps was) that the uppers and lowers were interchangeable much like an AR-15 so, at least several years ago I bought a new Emperor Scorpion 40 cal lower on gunbroker and caliber kits in 40 S&W, 9 mm, and a 22 lr so I have one P229 that is multi caliber. Carrying a CZ Rami or a Kimber k6s 2” in civilization and a K6s 3” for woods walks but would consider a P229 without reservation.
I did the same thing with a P229 years ago. I had one that would run 22LR, 9mm, 357, and 40. It was pretty cool, ran great and was completely reliable with all calibers, but I eventually sold it off. I might pick up a P229 in 9mm again one day. It's a great size.
I just ordered a 226 legion should come in Monday. I have a regular 226 that’s really good. I had a Glock 19 never got used to it.I got a 365 x macro I put a green dot on . Took it off couldn’t get used to it I’m to old I guess.
I own the P226, you forgot about the solid guide rod and stippling on the trigger guard. You can pull it out of the case in a pitch black room and immediately see the sights. I carry mine because it hits the target every time, the low rise on recoil due to the trigger indentation, solid guide rod and higher grip because of the contoured beaver tail allowing quick sight acquisition. My go to Gun for defense along with my MCX.
Edpotts.... speaking of pitch black, that's one of the many advantages of the Springfield XD...both the loaded chamber indicator and the striker fire indicator can be checked in total darkness...so there's absolutely no doubt that a round is chambered & it's ready to fire.... another is that, unlike virtually every other semi auto, the XD won't go out of battery & not fire if pressed directly against an attacker's body... That said, the P226 IS a great gun...
I have a p226 Elite stainless in 40s&w. I don’t shoot it all the time but every time I take it out to the range it’s a tack driver. I absolutely love it!
You asked how it stacks up. I rely on mine for home defense everyday. I also have some holster options for it so I can carry when I'm working around home. Mine has 3500+ rounds through it and I'll never trade it for anything. I'm actually looking at buying a 2nd one. The trigger has really smoothed out, and I like the DA first pull for bumps in the night.
My fiancée carries a 229 Legion. She swears by that thing and has no desire to carry anything else. 226s and 229s are hard to beat. But I hold it in the same regard as a 1911. They’re great shooters. It’s hard to beat a classic in my mind
This was the 3rd pistol I purchased, I bought it shortly after they hit the market. I love this pistol and I shoot it better than any of my other handguns. Messing around with a buddy I ran out of rifle ammo and pulled my pistol while my friend finished his magazine. We were at 75 yards and he laughed asking me why I was wasting rounds, until we checked our targets and he realized I was hitting with it. He didn't have a bad word to say about the pistol after that, and I only use iron sights on pistols. Edit: I don't carry it regularly, I will carry it in a shoulder rig if I'm dressed in a suit (but that doesn't happen often). It was my night stand pistol until 2 years ago, I have since switched to a Glock 20 10mm. It's my go to if I'm shooting 9mm.
I have an older (1990's) 226 and it is my favorite range gun. Too big and too heavy to carry concealed, but for range days its the best. If I was interested in open carry, I'd certainly consider it a good option.
I made the mistake for years avoiding Sig because people say DA/SA being hard to learn and high bore axis and blah blah, until I bought the M11-A1. Now it's my favorite pistol for carry and at the range. Kicking myself for not buying a traditional Sig decades ago.
Sig P226 & P229 are my favorites. I do often carry a P229. Both my wife's biometric box home defense guns are 226s. I have 3 total 226s and just ordered a second 229, a legion this time. My carry version is the SAS that's several years old.
I have many of the new striker fired 9mm: Canik, Masada, Beretta, Ruger, Smith and Wesson; Springfield Hellcat, etc., and of course my EDC, the Sig P365. But my nightstand gun is still a Sig P229 Elite with a 17 rd. mag. I've trusted it for many years and continue to trust it. It has been 100% reliable. And I could easily swap it out for another of my 229s or one of my Sig 226s. Call it familiarity with the manual of arms, but I have no issue with the DA first round. I like the extra weight because it reduces recoil. It is solid firearm that goes bang every single time. And yes, I still shoot my Sig duty size pistols. They are a joy to shoot.
Been waiting for this video for a while! This is my everyday carry firearm for self defense. It is a great shooter once you put a few hundred rounds and get used to the trigger. I love the heavier feel when I carry and the grips and beaver tail give it a nice balance in the weight. It's the Ferrari of firearms.
When I was a police officer in the early to mid 1990’s we was issued the p226 in 9mm. I liked the gun but just never got proficient with it. When I switched to the Glock 23 it was like magic. Probably why I shot the Glock better was we had an great change over training. When I went from smith 686 to the p226 I did not, and I think I was trying to shoot it like the revolver. I would love to give the p226 another chance.
I transitioned from a p226 in the army to a glock 19 in the police. I far preferred the sig, easier to shoot, more comfortable, I liked the 2 stage trigger on the sig, cocking the hammer allowed a graduated level of response and I think the sig kicks less
The other day I was at the range and shot a sig 320, a glock 19, and a cz side by side. Maybe I'm crazy but I felt they all shot the exact same...I could barely tell a difference.
I’m trying to buy one of those Legion… right know I have a M&P Smith and Wesson but it’s a 45 lot of power but lot of recoil .. a Legion 9 mm will be a nice change
This video speaks to me. My 1st handgun was a P229 40S&W when that was what the new hot gun. I then bought a P226 W German then a P220 Stainless 45 ACP , P230 Stainless then a P229 9MM, P226 Stainless , I had the Sig SRT Trigger parts installed in all of them.... I own all but the P230 still along with S&W M&P Pro and Full size and a Glock 19 and 48 and a H&K P7 PSP. I too shoot the striker fired pistols 99% of the time but with the 2011 -Stacatto craze I recently started shooting my Classic Sig P226 Stainless. The pistol I sold that I regret was my P226 X5 Competition in 9mm.
I just bought two of these! The 226 RX, and it’s little brother the 229 RX. They match up nicely with my Sig MK 25 and my Sig M-11. Two full size & two compacts. I’m Sig happy! Incidentally, the Sig M 11 is very close in specs to the Glock 19, and for people who are uncomfortable carrying a striker fired pistol in appendix carry, then the Sig M 11 is a great choice with its DA/SA trigger. It’s basically a 229 without the rail but has phosphate coated parts and an SRT (short reset trigger). A joy to own, carry concealed and shoot😎 Thanks so much for all you do!
I own a P226 Enhanced Elite. I took it to the range and shot it just a couple months ago. I consider it my full size duty / GTW pistol. It's one of my favorite pistols. I'm actually getting ready to put my 5th Gen G19 on the market because I have several 9mms and I just don't really like it.
I got a P225 A1 during the relatively short time they were available. I do understand the complaints about it, relatively low capacity, relatively heavy for its size, double/single action and expensive but I think it is great. The most ergonomic gun I have handled and I can shoot it as well or better than any other gun of its size.
@@Twobarpsi the P225 was a single stack version that holds 8. The P220 is a single stack .45 that was the original concept of the series in the 70s. Then the P225 was made as a mini, 9mm version. The P226, P227, P228 and P229s are all double stack variants. The P225 went out of production pretty early on. It probably didn’t overlap with a lot of the others mentioned. The 225 was brought back for a short time a few years ago as an A1 that shared a lot of parts with the P229. Unfortunately it didn’t sell well enough to keep in production. I think it was abandoned around the time the P320 was awarded with a military contract. This is just observation but it seems to me like Sig dropped a lot of products when the P320 was awarded. It makes business sense. The P320 is a golden goose. The US civilian market buys more of the types of gun that are sold to the military than the military buys. (Obviously excluding the really expensive ones) I’m sure Sig is making a nice profit off the military contract but they are actually making more off the civilian sales than the military contract that has promoted many of the civilian sales. Not a criticism. I gravitate toward products that have been proven by the military. It’s just an interesting fact about the size of the market.
@Steven W I misread the original comment. I thought he was complaining about the 226 not having enough capacity at 15 rounds maybe thinking he was comparing it to a Glock 19. My apologies to the original poster.
I love my 226’s and 229. They are some of my favorite guns to shoot. I carry a 229 everyday and it’s replaced my Glock 19. When I need something smaller I will carry my Glock 26 but for 90% of the time I have a 229. I carry the 226 at work during the winter time and don’t have any issues with it. They are sweet shooters and still fill plenty of roles.
My P226 in 40 cal w/G-10 grips is at my bedside with a TLR-4 light/laser. It has the SRT (short reset trigger). SRT is the only way to go. Love to shoot this at the range.
A couple of years ago I was "just looking" at the dealer. As soon as I grabbed this gun, I fell in love. I had always leaned toward 1911s, but the Legion just seemed more natural. I was a little hesitant to change to a 9mm, but after several boxes of ammo, the ability to return back on target quickly, convinced me. I don't carry it very often, but it's always in my vehicle. As far as the weight, personally I don't see it as a problem. I think that the 10 ounces contributes to the overall shootability that I love.
Great video. I have a MK25 226. It’s my go-to non-carry pistol. 50-100 rounds at the range with 5 mags for cost before switching to 22lr with my personal budget. A joy to shoot in single action. Extra weight is beneficial for accuracy. Fits extremely well in my hand.
I work for DSS and we have carried the P229 years. I have carried the P226 well for several contracts and there is just something about a steel framed firearm that pulls on my heart strings. Although I carry a G19 personally on my off duty days, the P226 is a combat ready forearm, yes there are other lighter more concleable choices but as a duty firearm the dependability and just overall ease of shooting regardless of the DA/SA this platform is a joy.
Love my 226....Sent it out and had the slide cut for a RMR....So easy to shoot....Don't need my reading glasses to see the iron sights. Keep making great videos...
Sig226 is my absolute favorite. In 9mm and .40SW..the best 40SW ever…how many SIGs are too many? Haven’t figured that out yet. Great video Tennessee…..”Life is Good”
bought a Sig 229 Legion when they first came out ,really nice shooting gun. my nephew had just finished a 5 year tour wit the 82nd "All America" division. he was own in florida visiting. we had gone to a local range for some shooting. he shot my 229 and liked it. he let me shoot his pistol. it too was a Sig...an M11 A1. for me ,it shot better than my Legion. I was really impressed with the feel .yes I know that the legion costs more than the M 11A1and the legion has all the bells and whistles ,plus the cool little "coin" and special deals etc, etc. didn't matter. I began to look around my area(Central Florida) for an M11 A1pistol....none to be found. I sold my Legion ,put the money away and kept looking. a fellow Marine who works at my favorite range(there is no such animal as a "former Marine) called me and said they had received 5 Sigs in 1 was an M11A1. told me to haul ass because some one had been in earlier and was giving 'my" pistol a long, hard look and asking a lot of questions.BAM grabbed my money, got to the gun store, did my paperwork, got the 'proceed" word from the fed's, took my M11A1 home, broke it down, cleaned it...I never shoot a brand new pistol until i have field stripped it, cleaned it first. that was 2 years ago this month.i shoot that pistol more than any of my others.SEMPER FI my brothers!! LIFE IS GOOD!!!
I love this gun. I have the P226 SAO and the grip is so amazing. Unlike any other pistols grip. I wish @hickok45 was shooting the SAO model. I think he would like that one even better. I don’t care the gun is heavier than other pistols because the recoil is better and seriously the weight doesn’t matter to me. If you buy it you will never sell it.
I still have my old German made Sig P226 and will never get rid of it. It was the best handgun for its time and the quality is exceptional. That being said, there are better and more affordable options for carry and functionality for most people today which is why these now mostly sit in safes. If you need a great range, home defense or truck gun, these are still great options if you still own one.
I absolutely love bigger guns 226 included, I’d certainly carry it if I still had one, maybe not concealed carry or maybe so. If we’re at the range or hunting then he’ll yea. I’ve just absolutely fell in love with my 365xl I certainly used a 226 for my bedside gat for couple years back when I had one. For ever will have a special place in my heart no doubt, especially the mark 25 is it? I remember wanting one so damn bad, I’ll never forget that little anchor on the side haha. Much love to the Hickok fam another great one!
My daily is a P224 in 357SIG. I have a P229 on one side of my house and a P226 on the other. Magazines abound! They are very pleasant to shoot and I like the all-metal feel and the crisp triggers. All of my Sigs have G10 grips.
Have the Sig 229 Legion and it’s my favorite gun I have!! So accurate and the trigger is the best I’ve ever felt!! I think Glock fans get jealous of Sigs in my experience so they hate to compliment Sigs!
Not true. I owns Glocks and Sigs and owned this high dollar Sig 226 legion. It was nothing special and I didn't shoot it any better then my Glocks. The finsih on the frame was crappy too, so I sold it for more then I paid for it.
@@ravenmoto5948 Had mine for 2 years and hardly a scratch so I think they’ve improved the coating. So yeah not sure what kind of gun you like but the legions you get what you pay for! The trigger on glocks are a joke so if you can’t shoot the legion better than a Glock I find that hard to believe. A good trigger is really important in accuracy. Just goes to show about Glock people. The trigger on these legions are maybe the best you can get! Really think you’ve never shot a legion the way you describe it!
@@practicalthings2992 Hey if you can IWB a full size and not print, I day all the power to ya! Granted it may not be the most comfortable in my experience, but if you can pack a full size, hey run that mother.
I have several older Sigs and an M11A1 that has dropped a lot more in resale value than I expected. I agree about the consistent trigger. Every Sig I own has a DAO or DAK trigger.
I bought a P226 ST in 2004 chambered in .357 Sig. I have since added a .40 S&W barrel, a Bar-Sto 9mm conversion barrel, and an E2 grip kit. The best thing I ever did is stuff it full of all the gray guns goodies I could get. It's even heavier due to the stainless steel frame, but the trigger is fantastic and it shoots like a dream even with the relatively high bore axis. It's built like a tank, and it has become apparent that I'll never be able to wear it out in my lifetime. The only thing I've had to replace is recoil springs, but I stocked up on the good older green and orange braided wire versions, so I'm set for many more years. The only thing I might like to have more would be a German made X5 or X6 model.
I am not much of a pistol shooter, but I loved my buddy's Sig 220 years ago. A neighbor was selling his P226 Legion for a steal, so I picked it up. Recently shot it for the first time and it was lights out. There's something about the ergonomics for me that really help out. Love that gun.
I love mine, first 226 I ever bought. Carried it once and whent back to my G19, now I Carry a G26. I put it with my 1911 as a collector. It's been in a lot of movies like the negotiator which I love. I wasn't too put off by the size when I carried it I just saw a tiny bit of holster wear on the finish and when you pay 1200 vs 500 ill carry the Glock and be stress free when it comes to scratching it up
I’ve been on a metal framed pistol kick lately. Just traded a 365 x/rxz & a 320 xc/rxp for a 226 Legion optics ready ! All three guns are great but I really wanted that 226 !
I carry a 229 Elite when wearing a jacket or over shirt - the Sig P series are one of the finest shooting guns made. I have an M9A4 with a Streamlight for home defense.
Texas DPS still carry the P226. My kid brother is a Trooper since 03’ and still carries the 226 in .357 Sig as most in the state have transitioned to the P226 in 9mm. It’s a fine & reliable weapon.
Always a pleasure to watch, first and foremost! I switched from SIG P320 X Carry, an excellent firearm to the Legion P229 It's upgrades will make.a competent shooter even better if he does his part. Amazing ergonomics, well balanced and although it's a good 1/3 heavier than many newer striker fired pistols, that weight gives me more stability and faster sights return when shooting. The trigger is phenomenal once you train sufficiently with both DA/SA And the front sight, stick it centre mass and it hits 🎯 I carry this as an EDC Like everything, with time you get used to it. God bless
Looking to buy the 226 legion DA/SA. Can you explain the difference between the feel of the DA compared to the SA pull? I’m new to firearms and haven’t ventured beyond striker fired.
The trigger is on of the best out there. So smooth with the trigger, very short reset for your next shot. I run mine suppressed and it brings the weapon to the next level of perfection.
Got the same ipistol 226 legion da/sa and I carry it as a winter gun with bigger clothes as my edc. I told myself when I bought it that I was gonna test the design as a work gun and not just a show piece. I’ve put upwards of 5000 rounds through it and I’ve never had a single failure. Let me say that I clean my guns like a psychopath every single time I leave the range if it’s a gun that I carry. I maintain it really well if I’m going to put my life on it. The gun has never failed me, not even once, and I’ve put every style fmj from cheap to boujee through it and every round of defense ammo from 50 gr liberty defense all the way up to 147 with everything in between. Normal pressure, plus p, all of it. Great gun. My only issue I’ve ever had is that I felt the front sight would drift out of place after putting lots of rounds through it. But that’s pretty much it. I would absolutely recommend this gun for anyone thinking of buying one.
Got the P226 SAO today for my first firearm purchase. Thanks for advice on the Double action pull. Both varients are great but I'm glad I chose the SAO!
@DanRight1 It's been running flawless so far for me with federal plus p hst and some cheap brass fmj, only about 150 rounds through it though. I like the sao trigger a lot as well, best trigger I've had factory on a gun. if you can't decide on sao or the double single action version I'd suggest going to a gun store and trying out the trigger for yourself if you have one that let's you dry fire it's always good to handle before buying to see if you like the sights/ trigger.
Closest thing I have to a P226 is my Zastava CZ99. Man, that thing is sweet. And the trigger is shockingly good, too. Great option in a drop leg holster for spending time in the potentially dangerous outdoors. Serbs make amazing guns.
I have most of the Sig P series pistols and I like them all and have carried them all. All of them shoot well. I prefer them over the glocks, and even 1911's. I love the MK 25 pistol the best, than the Legions which I have in 9, 10 and 45acp. Just so much fun to shoot! Thanks for the vids guys!
Howdy, another Tennessean here. I have a P226 Legion SAO -- so there's no double-action issue. It added another $150 to the price -- and this model has a more consistent trigger feel/action. The weight is very advantageous for us folks with tremors. As far as a carry gun -- I very rarely carry it outside of my "range day." Very accurate/site picture to target alignment. The weight also improves accuracy for the first shot during drills for fast response target acquisition from either the draw or 1st ready position. However, it is not my most accurate/consistent target shooter. Out of the dozen handguns I have, my BUL Armory 1911 Commander has an unbelievable trigger with a very balanced feel in your hands. I have other 1911s and I, of course, started out with an Army 1911 when I served in the 70s/80s before getting the Barretta M9 in the late 80s/90s. Between the BUL and the P226, I'd use the BUL unless I needed more capacity per magazine. As to EDC, I tend to keep that for my under $700 pistols due to the likelihood that I'd never see it again if I had to use it and Law Enforcement felt the need to confiscate my firearm ;-) LOL
I have had a P226 9 mm as my carry ever since I turned 21. I’m now almost 60, it has never let me down. I am bigger than most people, I have a 56” chest and a 33” waist for most of my life but no one ever said or asked if I was carrying. It has been used several times for both defensive purposes and …
I have only shot a 226 Legion once, shot it well, liked it, but haven’t managed to break down and acquire one. I used to carry a Sig P228 so I was used to the DA/SA. Several years ago, an indoor range where I belonged was running a somewhat informal IDPA style match. One stage was a “battlefield pickup” theme where the range staff handed the shooter something out of their used or rental gun inventory to engage a dueling tree. While there were some junk pistols handed out, I lucked out and one of my runs was with the Legion. I was a Glock and M&P fanboy at the time, but my performance with the Legion was impressive enough to win that stage.
I recently bought the SAO version specifically to carry in a custom shoulder rig in the winter, not that AZ has much of a winter. I use the 18 round magazines.
The classic SIG P-series have a definite role in my EDC choices. Especially now that the weather has gotten colder. 1911's definitely are carried quite frequently this time of year as well. Old school guns rule!
Nothing wrong with using something like this as your carry gun. If you don't mind the size and weight, or the DA/SA trigger it'll do the job as well as any "better" choice other people might think of.
I just ordered the 226 legion with optics from the US. I can't wait til i get it! Im a ipsc sportshooter in Norway and already have the West German version 226 LDC. I love the p226 and felt like getting myself a little upgrade😁🙌
I am always pleased to learn of folks in other countries owning handguns. Sometimes it seems as though we are the only ones in the world who can. All the anti-gun people here say "No one else has private guns, why should the US?" Hope you enjoy your upgrade. I have several P226s in 9mm and 40 and shoot them often.
We are many gunowners and guncommunities here in Scandinavia and in other European contrys too. We have some regulations, but as long as you have no history of sirus crime or mental health issiues, anyone can aply for fierarms for sport or hunting. Some contrys in Europe like Switzerland and Check Republick you can allso aply for fierarm in case you need it for self defence. So that US is the only contry that you can own a handgun or warius other firearms, is complitly untrue. Thank you, yes i realy do enjoy shooting and i hope you do too.
I’ve been carrying a P226 as my duty piece for over ten years! Definitely a “bet my life on it” gun.
I did bet my life on it one night and it didn't let me down!!!
I will always have had it since the 80s!
@@d7dun1010 it isn’t no Glock
@@elkhartsausage 1911 my favorite all day 24/7 but i know a glock 43 wont let me down
I still have a 226 that I bought new in 1988.
I recently got a used P226 SAO, and I couldn’t believe the difference! The trigger is so smooth and tight!
I told you, enjoy brother! You have a winner for life. Did you get the optic cut version?
I did not. It did come with seven magazines and was clean. I thought it a good deal.
I have a 226 Legion SAO. To me, it’s the perfect 9mm duty size pistol. Thanks for the video
The trigger is incredible
Love my 229 SAO
Sig p226 will NEVER go out of style. It is the best Sig has in 9mm.
I agree. I have the P226 Elite, and it runs beautifully.
This Gentleman's accuracy with a pistol is mind-boggling! A great shooter!
One of my favourite pistols in terms of aesthetics. Absolutely gorgeous. If I lived in America, I would have to own one as soon as physically possible.
It is a gorgeous gun
Come to America…..everybody else is 😳
Whats so special about sigs ? to me plain looking gun
I find I have been going back to the hammer fired pistols. The 226 Legion is one of my favorites.
One of the best pistols I’ve ever owned .. Period
P229 Legion is my favorite pistol, can carry concealed with casual cover. Just a great pistol
My carry guns are a P229, and a GP100 4"
My P226 was my first auto pistol I bought, love the thing!
Is there a big difference between your p229 and p226?
@@jaya3597 not really. Both are quite soft shooting guns. the p226 is slightly more tame since it is a bigger gun.
I prefer the p229 overall since it is basically the same and it is easier to conceal but here are some differences in my guns:
the p226 mk25 has a true 1913 rail which is nice, but I didn’t have any issue putting my tlr7a on the sig rail for the p229.
Have always liked the 226 it’s a solid gun the added legion upgrades make it seem even better.
They are no longer made in Switzerland

Have had my Legion for 2 years. Just a range shooter. 1000+ rounds not one jam. Does get a deep cleaning after every trip. It's a lot fun for sure.
My fiancée carries a 229 Legion. She swears by that thing and has no desire to carry anything else. 226s and 229s are hard to beat. But I hold it in the same regard as a 1911. They’re great shooters. It’s hard to beat a classic in my mind
I carry this firearm and love it. The weight is nonexistent in my opinion. A good belt and holster changes the name of the game. Great pistol!
The legion da/sa is also my EDC and I love the weight, not too heavy and not a featherweight just right!!
My first gun was a fully stainless P220 elite, so a P226 feels light to me. I still shoot them better than anything else I own, including my 1911s.
I have an older (1990's) 226 and it is my favorite range gun. Too big and too heavy to carry concealed, but for range days its the best. If I was interested in open carry, I'd certainly consider it a good option.
What a damn sign from god. I've been eyeing a P226 for over a decade and now that I've been looking at actually buying one, you put out this video.
Literally same here lol
God doesn’t exist.
Love my P226. Just fit my hands better than anything else I've ever shot.
I made the mistake for years avoiding Sig because people say DA/SA being hard to learn and high bore axis and blah blah, until I bought the M11-A1.
Now it's my favorite pistol for carry and at the range. Kicking myself for not buying a traditional Sig decades ago.
P226 Legion is one of my favourite pistols. Trigger is amazing.
Try putting a gray guns flat face in. You’ll sht yourself how much better
Sig P226 & P229 are my favorites. I do often carry a P229. Both my wife's biometric box home defense guns are 226s. I have 3 total 226s and just ordered a second 229, a legion this time. My carry version is the SAS that's several years old.
I just purchased the Sig P229 legion and it shoots very nicely.
It really is one of those guns that as soon as you hold it in your hands, you know it’s a quality piece of weaponry.
I don't like the glocks, have the 21 in corrections but prefer my personal sig
The other day I was at the range and shot a sig 320, a glock 19, and a cz side by side. Maybe I'm crazy but I felt they all shot the exact same...I could barely tell a difference.
People are either team sig or team Glock. It's like apple and Android.
I’m trying to buy one of those Legion… right know I have a M&P Smith and Wesson but it’s a 45 lot of power but lot of recoil .. a Legion 9 mm will be a nice change
I carry the P229 Legion for over 7 years. Love it. Also have the P226 Legion. Both guns in double action and SAO variant.
One of the best grips out there. Fits like a glove
A joy to own, carry concealed and shoot😎
Thanks so much for all you do!
I got one of those for if I ever travel to a capacity limited state. It is big for its capacity, but it shoots really nice because of it.
How is 15 rounds limited?
@Steven W that’s a good tip.
I believe the P226 has alloy frame, the only Sig P series handgun with steel frame is P220 in 10mm, if I remember correctly.
@@bokiNYCthey have made a P226 ST which did have a stainless frame, I had one, however, I’m pretty sure he’s referring to the alloy frame version.
@@alanmeyers3957 Ah, got it, didn't know that. 👍
I sold my Legion ,put the money away and kept looking. a fellow Marine who works at my favorite range(there is no such animal as a "former Marine) called me and said they had received 5 Sigs in 1 was an M11A1. told me to haul ass because some one had been in earlier and was giving 'my" pistol a long, hard look and asking a lot of questions.BAM grabbed my money, got to the gun store, did my paperwork, got the
'proceed" word from the fed's, took my M11A1 home, broke it down, cleaned it...I never shoot a brand new pistol until i have field stripped it, cleaned it first. that was 2 years ago this month.i shoot that pistol more than any of my others.SEMPER FI my brothers!!
Amen Reverend! Amen!
He has to know the SAO version exists l, right?
I still have my old German made Sig P226 and will never get rid of it. It was the best handgun for its time and the quality is exceptional. That being said, there are better and more affordable options for carry and functionality for most people today which is why these now mostly sit in safes. If you need a great range, home defense or truck gun, these are still great options if you still own one.
I served in the New Zealand Army and back in the day we were issued Sig 226 (standard not legion). Great pistols. Strong and reliable. 🇺🇸 🇳🇿
Did you return it to Jacinda?
@@Twobarpsi no but I had to hand in my Benelli M2 mag extension…..at least they paid me for it.
@@davidneal6920 I feel your pain.
My Sig MK-25 is one of my favorite guns in the collection. Great shooting gun with low recoil and is a fun conversation piece.
I've got the P229 Legion in SAO and they run like a dream! Very nice firearm.
Love my 226 Legion SAO hands down my favorite!
Love my elite. Edit: It carries fine appendix. Using the mecgar 18 round mags, and a TREX arms holster with a TLR1, its a sweet and shootable package.
That's a big pacakge for iwb..🤣

Hey if you can IWB a full size and not print, I day all the power to ya! Granted it may not be the most comfortable in my experience, but if you can pack a full size, hey run that mother.

As they say, " To carry a gun, the lighter the better. To shoot it, the heavier the better."
I appendix my 229 legion.
I wasn't too put off by the size when I carried it I just saw a tiny bit of holster wear on the finish and when you pay 1200 vs 500 ill carry the Glock and be stress free when it comes to scratching it up
I still carry a P226 at work and there’s flush fit 18 round mags available for it!
This is my favorite 9mm of all time, love mine.
I own the same pistol. Absolutely most accurate pistol I own. Sig out did itself with the P226 Legion. It is my daily carry. That and the P229 Legion.
I’ve been on a metal framed pistol kick lately. Just traded a 365 x/rxz & a 320 xc/rxp for a 226 Legion optics ready ! All three guns are great but I really wanted that 226 !
Just as I was actually looking into getting a P226 Legion myself, he whips this out of nowhere. Hickok45 can read minds confirmed.
EDC the p226 legion in SAO. Awesome, accurate pistol
I actually love my Legion. And I have it in my carry rotation. It is a sweet shooting gun.
Always a pleasure to watch, first and foremost!
I switched from SIG P320 X Carry, an excellent firearm to the Legion P229
It's upgrades will make.a competent shooter even better if he does his part.
Amazing ergonomics, well balanced and although it's a good 1/3 heavier than many newer striker fired pistols, that weight gives me more stability and faster sights return when shooting.
The trigger is phenomenal once you train sufficiently with both DA/SA
And the front sight, stick it centre mass and it hits 🎯
I carry this as an EDC
Like everything, with time you get used to it.
God bless
Looking to buy the 226 legion DA/SA. Can you explain the difference between the feel of the DA compared to the SA pull?
I’m new to firearms and haven’t ventured beyond striker fired.
10lb pull on first DA, 4.5lb pull on SA.
Fell in love with the 226 early in my time learning firearms and def one favs to carry even with weight
Got the P226 SAO today for my first firearm purchase. Thanks for advice on the Double action pull. Both varients are great but I'm glad I chose the SAO!
Had mine since the day it came out... it's my baby. Cherish yours!
Legion? It's literally my #1 choice right now for my first purchase, I am liking the SAO as well. Any regrets at all? Optics or no optics?
@DanRight1 It's been running flawless so far for me with federal plus p hst and some cheap brass fmj, only about 150 rounds through it though. I like the sao trigger a lot as well, best trigger I've had factory on a gun. if you can't decide on sao or the double single action version I'd suggest going to a gun store and trying out the trigger for yourself if you have one that let's you dry fire it's always good to handle before buying to see if you like the sights/ trigger.
Only TH-cam gun expert I come or listen to, when, I want a honest opinion or reviews on any weapons. Life is good 👍
Closest thing I have to a P226 is my Zastava CZ99. Man, that thing is sweet. And the trigger is shockingly good, too. Great option in a drop leg holster for spending time in the potentially dangerous outdoors. Serbs make amazing guns.
I love mine. Had since 1st came out years ago. Has thousands of rounds and it always runs like a watch.its super fast.
Carried 226 for years. Still love the pistol.
We use this for our security at paragon systems , wasn’t a fan of the triggers but it’s still a decent firearm but that legion looks nice
I recently bought the SAO version specifically to carry in a custom shoulder rig in the winter, not that AZ has much of a winter. I use the 18 round magazines.
Aaah yes! Hickhock45, the „Bob Ross“ of Guns! I love it!
Quality belt and holster do a lot to make the bigger, heavier pistol very comfortable to carry daily
I just bought a 226 Legion, a Romeo red dot, and a Mitch Rosen holster. Can’t wait to take it all to the range.
All the anti-gun people here say "No one else has private guns, why should the US?"
Hope you enjoy your upgrade.
I have the 229 but mine was before the Legion series, it's the old German Sig Arms. But it's my all time favorite in 40S&W and 357sig. Great video👍👍
I'm a Sig P229 guy.
And glad it's spring out in Tennessee.
