    Things 3 only lacks two features:
    1) Ability to add photo/attachment to tasks.
    2) location reminders.
    It’s still my favorite task manager app but frustrating that those two features are missing.

    I switched from the clunky Omnifocus to Things 3 on Iphone 2 weeks ago, just to try out whether the app fits my needs. 3 days later i installed the test version to my Mac because Things 3 is just great!
    I will surely buy Things 3 for Mac, but as i became a father yesterday money is pretty thight at the moment so the giveaway you‘re doing right now would help a lot!
    Keep up the good work, thanks!

    I don't think anyone could've made a more presentable version of this, and vote for it be used as their official overview lol. This is the first video I watched in my attempt to research some to-do apps - and it'll be the last one, partially because of your presenting skills, but I just love the slightly whimsical design with the 'Someday' and 'Anytime' features. It seems quite compatible with my brain's way of thinking about... things lol. 😂 The widget feature is also brilliant for encouraging the planting of the "seed of planning" for those more spur-of-the-moment ideas you might otherwise not deem significant enough to actually add to your agenda. This is chef's kiss content, gg peter! 🙌

    I've been using Omni Focus since it's inception. The thought of purchasing another task management app just to try it seems insane. The first video of yours I saw was about OmniFocus and not putting a date on something that doesn't really need a date and then there was a video about the 'next' tag. Your suggestions have really helped. So now your telling us that Things 3 is the be all end all - well - I'd like to try it, but I've been hesitating because of the cost.

      I have been using Pocket Informant for about 7 years, I just switched to Things and it’s much better. I’ve come to the realisation that a more complicated task manager takes away from the tasks themselves, I would spend too long managing my tasks rather than actually doing them.

    • @podnuh
      @podnuh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ive used OmniFocus for many years and have learned a lot of cool tips from these videos. I’m interested in Things because OmniFocus 3 just looks dated and there doesn’t seem to be any projected release dates for OmniFocus 4. The main reason I’m hesitant is because I’m afraid I’ll miss transferring some important future task, recurring task or future deadline that I have in OmniFocus when moving to Things.

    • @nukesean
      @nukesean 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Things has a free trial. I’ve used both, and Things is honestly garbage compared to omnifocus. They’re not even in the same ballpark if you actually need more than just a barebones task manager. Things does look better, but that’s about it.

    Great video Peter! I always find myself juggling between Things & Todoist. My work device is a Mac, which is fine for my iPhone & iPad but my personal device is a Windows. So I often use Todoist on Windows or web. Do you ever find yourself missing a web version? Again, great video 🎉

    • @samueltremblay275
      @samueltremblay275 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes there is no web version of Things 3 but another thing missing is the fact that Things 3 is registered by Apple ID so if you have both a personal and work Mac computers, this doesn't mean it will be easy because you will have a hard time to fill data from those different areas. I mean, your work computer will probably have a work Apple ID so you will not be able to add tasks from your personal life from that computer. Using Todoist, you can switch using Log Out, Log In at least.

    After trying all of the popular task managers, I’ve settled on Things 3 for iPhone and your videos have been very helpful! The only things I wish Things offered were: 1) option to sort lists alphabetically 2) option to star items to make them a top priority or list as urgent 3) ability to view tags on iPhone w/o clicking on item (or even to assign various tag colors) but it still works better for me than other app . I’d love to try Things 3 on my Mac sometime since the larger view would make it much easier to organize and plan. Thanks! -A fellow vegan

    I'd love to see a comparison between Things and OmniFocus, its clear you know both pretty well I think you'd be best placed to do so. OF overall seems more powerful, but Things has a better UX? Given I already own OF, its a hard call switching given the upfront costs.

      I learnt a lot from your videos, they really helped a lot. if you have time, would you please comment on my following understandings:
      1. to-do APP is mostly for the sense of achievement. by clicking on the 'done' checkbox, we feel satisfied on ourselves and we will seek for this sense again. Eventually we will get more and more dependent on the system, and the system can help us get more and more organized.
      2. David Allen said we should clear our head and put all the thoughts (even they are ramdom?) into INBOX. In reality, somethimes, when i sit down and try to do this, i am facing my empty head and i have no thought at all. however, when i am doing something else, like walking on the street or on the subway or working at the office, usually i got all the thoughts come up, like, i should do this or if i do that it would be fantastic. how to deal with this situation then? should i stop what i am doing and record the random thought or if i should just 'defer' it? if i 'defer' it, then in most of times, i simply forgot it.
      3. i also tried some all-in-one APPs like notion and obsidian. the latter is what i am using to manage my projects in work. For example, i feel it really convinient to keep my notes or documents under the projects, and also keep track its schedule and status with the Kanban plugin. i can link the tasks to its document or notes, really helpful. yes, things3 can support notes with markdown, however, the drawback is, once the task is finished, i feel it very difficult to find the note i kept. sometimes i feel i may not need a professional to-do app to manage my projects at work, i need a system that is easy to find out the notes i want, get me to my disired contents quickly and simply notify me the schedule. when i sit down in my office, if i look at things 3, i just get oh i'd better do these things. while if i look at obsidian, i can get the status of all the projects, and also the tasks i need do by schedule. it has more information for me and lazy as me, i don't feel like open to-do app to check what i need do then.....

    I have a big issue with Things. Undo almost never works reliably. I would like to think I'm not the only person that makes mistakes, but whether I am on the Mac or on my iPhone, or my iPad, sometimes even the very last thing I did like delete a task won't Undo. Or move to another project. It frustrates me and makes me feel like I cannot trust it. But it's usability above most other apps, makes it fantastic. I wish you could save something like "perspective" like OmniFocus has but this can definitely be handled with Shortcuts for the most part. At least I tell myself that until I find something complicated I can't do and forget that I should just be doing things not fiddling or troubleshooting why an OmniFocus perspective is not working correctly.

I have the app on Iphone and Ipad, because I didn't have a Mac. Now I already have a Mac and I've been testing the app, but I haven't bought it for fear of a new version coming out, since this one if I'm wrong is from 2017 and now I would have to renew it or add more utilities such as being able to add files, etc. And of course it should continue to be a single payment, even if it is expensive, because now that subscriptions are in fashion, it is beginning to be impossible to pay for everything, hehe. Unfortunately, I have a Windows pc in the office and cannot use Things there. Of course I could take my iPad to the office, but I don't want to mix my personal and professional to-dos. That would rob me privately of the overview. What can I do? Another app like ToDoist is harder for me to use.

    I bought Things for the IPhone a few days ago and was immediately in love. This app has everything you need. The Mac app would additionally be very cool now. :)

    When you open the app you want to immediately see the context, not your responsibilities, life goals etc. That's why I think the current layout of Things with areas is always visible and context is hidden (somewhere in tags...) is bad for everyday productivity.

    Good video! Have been looking hard for something to help organize my life and the app is really helpful so far. Was a little disappointed after I bought the app not realizing I’d have to pay $50 for the Mac version to sync them up, so getting a code would be awedome

    Thanks for another great video. I have been on Omnifocus since 2010 and also did your OF3 course. I love the ability to forward email as tasks with attachments. However, you are right I fiddle more than I actually get things done and would love to give Things 3 a go.
