@poposmoko Persia was a region of Iran, it'd be like referring to all of America as Dixie or all of the UK as England. Furthermore the Persians were they're own distinct people distinct from other Iranians of the time such as the Medes or Parthians. Post-Cyrus these peoples started to blur into a single group but prior to this the Persians were a distinct identity and the founders of said Achaemenid Empire.

One single man created the Achaemenid Empire, and then one single man conquered it.
Well, they also had a pretty big and well-trained army each, but you know what I mean.

The Egyptians, the people of Anatolia supported Alexander if you see the map if Alexander's empire is not the whole of the Perian Empire. Some states have gained their own autonomy.

Alexander could've been defeated early with Scorched Earth tactics since his treasury would've run dry in a month or so. A Greek general actually proposed this but unfortunately it wasn't put into practice.

When you take into account how long it took to travel, transport, and communicate across the Achemenid Empire, it would be like managing an empire that spanned over 8x the earth's landmass area today. It also had about half the world's population at the time, which today would be over 4 billion people. Just to put into modern perspective how massive and influential this state was.

During the reign of Artaxerxes II, the Greek had just finished their decades long Peloponnesian War. With Spartan victory and thousands of now out of work soldiers milling around, Cyrus the Younger rebelled against his brother and hired 10 thousands of Greek mercenary as his auxiliaries. At the Battle of Cunaxa, Cyrus' forces was winning, but all came to be moot when Cyrus is killed in combat. This left the Greeks thousands of miles far in the interior of a now very hostile country whose ruler just put down a rebellion in which they participate in. The surviving Greek fought their way to the Black Sea to link up with Greek colony there and this account is documented in Xenophon's Anabasis. Decades later Alexander would take these first hand account of the 10 thousands to good use against Darius II.
One good place to speculate alternative history is how the world would look like had Cyrus not only survive Cunaxa but overthrow his brother? Those Greek mercenary would be handsomely rewarded and Alexander wouldn't have Anabasis to work with.

Abdul those were Spartans !! Dont use Greeks for them .you should understand the people who cyrus payed to them to fight against his brother ,was Spartans not other hellenic peoples!! Its like I say Iranians ,but Iranians had diffrent tribes .which the most famous ones for the Greeks (hellenic people )was medes and Persians !! Parthians _sogdians _Scythians_long hat (Cimmerians _royal scythians _massagatae) _bactrians _khwarazmians _hum varagha scythians (saka) and ........
Greeks also had diffrent tribes and city governments and you should separate all of them. They were not one single nation as greeks ,this is lie !!! And also if cyrus the younger was won that battle I'm sure the Sparthians over throw him 😂😂😂 no any doubt about it .Sparthans had plans to over throw the achaemenid empire and they had secret alliance with the egypt and that's the reason ,Egyptian rebelled exactly the same period when cyrus the younger was ready to over throw his bigger brother artaxerxes 2 .sparthians got powerfull in balkan area and Athens was also got weak !! And yeah if cyrus the younger was the winner ,100%achaemenid was destroyed 65 Years earlier

    • @farnabazat5395
      @farnabazat5395 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Artaxerxes 2 played well with the Spartans and athens and thebes and he also got back the Ionia and the islands and Cyprus. Darius the second made the Spartans way powerfull to handle them and artaxerxes 2 able to made both athens and Spartans weak
And he also got ready to get back egypt but another rebelled from Cyprus Happend who got alliance with the Athens !! Also dont confuse everything up for yourself ,Macedonia was diffrent topic and he just got power out of nowhere it doesnt relate to the athens or Spartans problems with Achaemenid
Also I'm sure if Artaxerxes 3 (or his true name is vahuka or bahman the second )was alive and they didnt had murder him in 338 BC ,he can easily beat down Alexander in granicus battle (the first and most important battle ) .Artaxerxes 3 able to got back Egypt and he able to made Asia minor more calmer than before and he had alot of battles in 20 years of his period power

@@aradsstates9584 You are right, but the Seleucid, (althougth more persians than macedonians) mantained a multi-cultural multi-ethnical and anti-slavery empire, who extended basically 5/6 of the Persian empire.

@@kousvetkousvet4158 mAYBE is because Alexander was used by his pretenders (Ptolomy, Antigonus, etc) while Cyrus sucession was much more easy, (not that of Cymbasis but, enough) also it could be because Cyrus fought fewer battles than Alexander, as before Darius, once you slain the king all fell, but with Alexander he had to dispatch satrap after satrap. plus Alexander also conquered Greece, so, the Greeks famous for their romantization where forced to accept him, or end like Demosthenes of Athens.
Plus the jews love Cyrus in a light who nobody love a conqueror, because his liberation of the Jews, so the west also like him.
Plus he was overshadowed by his own succesors like Cymbasis, Darius, or Artaxerxes III,

I consider the Achaemenid Empire to be the world's first superpower, but not a global power (New World was still disconnected from the Old World). It spanned several continents, numerous cultures, was really influential in defining the course of history, and had a lasting dominant position in politics, economy, military and culture. The fact that it lasted in a strong position for more than 2 centuries until Alexander's conquests is in itself quite impressive as well!

@@calebgoodfellowcg I know that's the case for the other place-names, but as for the ones I mentioned, those do not appear in the Behistun inscription, and I also doubt they're Old Persian.
