- Putting the Surly Ghost Grappler to the test, In this video I take my bike to my local woodlands here in Finland. I want to try some new kit and decompress for a night in front of the fire. I talk about the bike setup, my new Big Agnes sleep system and campfire. We also do some foraging of wild berries and enjoy them over the fire.
This was a while back but would love to see more bikepacking vids. Especially from someone who has a dedicated rig, instead of the bike folks here on YT who seemingly have a different bike for every kind of terrain. Hearing about how someone dials in gear for specificity is really useful, your decision making process. Thanks!
Thanks for that! I appreciate it and I agree. I could only afford to have one bike so it took me a while to pick something I felt would suit all my needs. And all weather. Finland is tough in the winter but this bike is solid
FINLAND is a wonderful country
It’s nice here 😁
Nice video!
Nice video. I have a twin brother who rides a Surly Ghost Grappler and this is the perfect type of adventure for him.
Nice 😊
Nice video, nice musics. Cool bike. I hope to hear later on how it works on your longer tours.
One critisism: Do not take anything of the trees, please. It's not allowed. Not even what you took. I'm sure you are able to start a fire with sticks you find on the ground. There's plenty of it. Please let the trees be.
Good to know. Thanks for telling me this 🙂👍🏻
@@artoftheoutdoors Could be wise to add a text below the video about the everyman's rights, pointing out the misunderstanding. Or even make a video about them. Happy trails!
I wish youde say that to the loggers around my parts lol seriously, it's sad how many trees I see daily going down the highway
Great video! I didnt know you make these also so was super excited to find this via YT offers!
the best bike I have ever own so far. Surly GG for the win!
I love it too
always good to test gear
for sure! definitely learned a few things
Fantastic video. Great bike, too!
Thanks 😀
Cool film, keep em coming
thanks man! I'll do my best to keep them more frequent
Cracking watch Padraig
Thank you Dave 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Nice one Fella. Very jealous of the ready shelters in Finland. The sad truth is in the UK they'd get vandalised.
shame but unfortunately not enough people ready to even help clean them if they were built , not speaking of you just general public always see and speak of cleaning, vandalism issue and yet often do not return with a litter picker to help.
the Norwegian/Sweden vibes are beyond beautiful but hopefully obtainable at some point maybe not in our lifetime but the next all the best and happy adventures 🤙
@@ryanjamesthewolf260 @The Trekking Woodsman I hear you. thankfully in Finland people spend their whole lives using these with their parents and families, so there is a culture of respect for nature. There are far too many factors that would have to change culturally in the UK and Ireland for these to work unfortunately
@@artoftheoutdoors hopefully the next generation if we show them the value and respect and effort needed will clock on and keep and open up more opportunities
This is awesome Padraig hope your doing well mate! James
Thanks man! I’m great. I hope everything is well with you
Very nice video! I have a similarly sleep system from BA, a few years old, and it’s great.
I recently got the Ghost Grappler frame only and built it up with Jones bar and running 1x12, 30 chainring, 10-51 cassette, all Shimano. Working out great so far.
Looking forward to your bike review! 😊
10-51! That’s a nice range. Thanks for the feedback. Will most likely do a full video in the spring
Salutations buddie Padriag.
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hi what front rack is that? it looks perfect for the gg!
Haha! It fits nice for sure 😁😁 it’s the pelago medium rack
@@artoftheoutdoors thanks!!
Have you tested the system in the winter yet? I'm curious !
Hey! yes I cycle in all weather. This system works great so far
@@artoftheoutdoors What temps have you used it down to?
I go out in -10C to -25C during winter
@@tboe0 of course it depends what kind of mat or pad you have under you. I have so far had it out in -10 and it's been solid
Nothing said about the bike it self. How do you like it riding. How it is for bikepacking? Not too heavy as it is a steel bike?
thanks for watching. I'm going to do an in depth on the bike itself soon. I felt I needed more time with it to do it justice, but yes I love the bike. it's a bit heavy but it's a workhorse in the truest sense
@@artoftheoutdoorsa pitty you didn't since the very next video was sponsored by canyon bikes ....
May I ask what framebag that is?
The frame bag was made by my buddy in Journeyman handcrafts
