The death toll in Bangladesh from a crackdown on massive student protests has risen to at least 174, with more than 2,500 people arrested, after police and soldiers were granted "shoot-on-sight" orders amid the unrest. The protests were in response to a highly contested quota system for civil service jobs, with 30% of government positions reserved for relatives of veterans who fought in the country's independence war against Pakistan in 1971. The country's high court rolled that back Sunday to only 5%, but students are still demanding that a curfew be fully lifted, schools reopened, and detained students and protest leaders released. "The collective anger that you're seeing is over inequality, lack of opportunity, and a perception that those who are close to the ruling class and ruling elite are getting all the benefits," says journalist Salil Tripathi, author of a book on the Bangladeshi war of independence.

As a Bangladeshi, I loved the discussion very much! Hasina must go, she already destroyed every single institutions of Bangladesh! Corrupt and autocrat, no respect for people. Now security forces are invading home to home and killing people and making arrests to calm down the situation! It is worse than 1971 Pak regime. We must get our freedom back.

Prime minister Sheik Hasina has deployed troops shooting live bullets against students, mostly teenagers and young adults, because she considers anyone who dissents a "political opponent." The same brutal crackdown happened a few years ago when students as young as 12 and 13, agitated for safe streets to walk to school. There are no term limits for the top office in Bangladesh and Ms. Hasina has been 'elected' a fifth consecutive time amid widespread concerns of vote fraud.
At the very least, the current student killings are a spectacular failure to handle legitimate concerns by PM Hasina's government and at worst, the highest number of extrajudicial killings in any 5 days in the history of Bangladesh, outside of the liberation war of '71. Yet, we've seen no accountability, no ministers have stepped down and no attempts to tamp down police and paramilitary violence have been voiced.
Ms. Hasina's government has lost the trust of the people and she must step down to let a traumatized nation grieve their young, and heal. The goal of office is not to cling to power at any cost but to serve the people. And the greatest service now would be to step down and be accountable.

It is a monstrous lie that the Bangladesh government imposed a curfew and deployed the army to suppress the students. On the contrary, the Supreme Court's judgment has decided that the government will keep 93% of government jobs on merit and government agreed. On the other hand, there has been arson, vandalism and killings in various parts of Bangladesh for the past few days. In particular, various government and private institutions including Bangladesh Metrorail, Elevated Expressway Toll Plaza, Setu Bhaban have been set on fire and vandalized. Ordinary students said in a press release that they are not involved at all. Basically, the opposition party of Bangladesh wants to change the government through terrorist activities, killing people and arson using the time. Therefore curfew has been imposed and army has been deployed in the interest of public safety.

I have watched your entire program and in view of this I feel the need to give my opinion as a non-political and common people of Bangladesh.
The entire history of Bangladesh has been distorted for selfish family-centric politics. When the Awami League came to power, Sheikh Hasina says- the liberation war was organized under the leadership of my father and Sheikh Mujib was the herald of independence. On the other hand, when BNP came to power, Begum Khaleda Zia says her husband Major Ziaur Rahman was the herald of independence. However, at least 15-20 millions of people participated directly and indirectly in the 1971 liberation war. 3 millions people were martyred and 0.250-0.300 millions womens were raped. And on the other hand, one of her father and the other of her husband have brought the country to the brink of civil war again with the politics of violence to establish its authority.
These two families have been doing politics of revenge with each other for the last 25 years after independence. They think that they and their families own this country. But 3 millions of people were martyred in the war of independence of Bangladesh. Common people took up arms and fought shoulder to shoulder and freed the country from Pakistan's quotas and discrimination. Neither Sheikh Mujib nor any of his sons fought in arms and in 1971 he kept his entire family safe. On the other hand, Major Ziaur Rahman was in the Pakistan Army and fought directly against the Pakistanis. After the independence of the country, Sheikh Mujib sat in the seat of the power, later his children started thinking of themselves as princes and the common people of the country as their subjects. At that time the army officers started speaking against them for such attitude. After seeing the situation, Sheikh Mujib tried to establish Bakshal in the country. In this context, on August 25, 1975, army officers staged a military coup and killed everyone in the Sheikh family except Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana. Because that time they were live to the another country. At that time, the army officers thought that the country had been liberated for democracy, and Sheikh Mujib was going to establish a dictatorship in that independent country. Then the army officers requested him to withdraw from this path but when he refused, the military coup happened. One of Sheikh Mujib's good qualities was that he could attract the common people very much with his speeches and even the comon people trusted him like blind men. At that time, people did not understand that Sheikh Mujib was busy breaking the democracy and maintaining the monarchy.
Now let's talk about Sheikh Hasina - In 2009, the people of the country voted Awami League to power. Because at that time BNP's injustice, irregularity and corruption had reached the peak. After the Awami League came to power in 2009, they started secretly killing and disappearing anyone who spoke out against them. 57 highly educated and decorated army officers who might revolt in future were killed by the BDR by the BDR in organizing the mutiny. All the elections in Bangladesh after 2009, from national parliament to local government elections, were rigged. All those elections were not elections, they were selections in exchange for money, as well as Awami League reaching the grass roots of power, Sheikh Hasina's dream of establishing a dictatorship. In the last 17 years, Sheikh Hasina took control of everything important in the country, starting from the government, judiciary, law department, banking sector, education sector, medical sector, road transport, anti-corruption commission, police, RAB, BGB, army in exchange for all these sectors. From the chief officer to the second, third and fourth grade officers, she opened the way for corruption. As a result of which now a common peon of her (Sheikh Hasina) house is the owner of 4 billion of taka it means almost 3.5 billions of USD. (we can know from the Prime Minister's own statement). During the 17 years of Sheikh Hasina's rule, all those who were in the government at some level are now the owners of billions of billions USD. and by smuggling this money to the developed countries of the world including Europe, America, today they are living a royal life beyond anyone's touch. And this money deficit has appeared in the economy of Bangladesh. Foreign exchange reserves have reached zero. As a result of inflation, the prices of daily necessities have increased by 20-100 and even some products have increased up to 250 percents. On the one hand, the number of our expatriates is increasing, remittance income is increasing but the country's foreign exchange is not increasing in any way. Because all the money is being smuggled abroad.
Quota issue- There was 56% quota in government jobs in Bangladesh. Although it is said 30% freedom fighter quota, 10% women quota, 10% district quota, 5% underprivileged quota, and 1% disabled quota, after that there is bribe quota which has no percentage. That is countless. But basically the purpose of behind is, it was a tactic to retain her power by placing people of her own choice in important positions in the government. The truth of this is the police, RAB, DB, BGB, Bangladesh Army openly attacking and shooting the anti-quota protestors. So this movement of on the road is no more anti-quota movement. It is now a mass movement demanding the fall of the government.
The current authoritarian government (Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina) has employed about 2.6 million Indian citizens in various important public, private and autonomous institutions in Bangladesh, from administration to stay in power. But 25 million citizens of the country are working as diaspora in other countries and most of them are living very inhuman life in other countries. Currently, according to official estimates, the number of unemployed in Bangladesh is 2.59 million, of which 2.3 million are educated unemployed (in reality, the number would be around 1 crore). My question is if out of 2.6 million unemployed people in the country there are 2.3 million educated unemployed then why should 2.6 million people be employed from India? If they are less skilled than Indians, why are they not being trained? Why should foreign nationals be appointed at the administrative level of the country? Why was the country's best Islamic scholars hanged by tagging Razaka? Why did the intellectual, articulate leaders of the main opposition parties suddenly disappear and have not been traced for the past 15 years? However, an MP of his government was killed in India and DNA tests from his flesh revealed that this is his MP! We common people understand everything. All day is spent gathering bread for our family, so there is no time or energy for movement. But when it comes to do-or-die situations, one has to take to the streets to protest even after being shot in the chest.
The current dictatorial government (Sheikh Hasina) is allowing the superpower India to use Bangladesh as a corridor to maintain its power. On the other hand, what is India giving to Bangladesh? Nothing! The current government is opening all kinds of roads for India to enter Bangladesh. Bangladesh will soon come under Indian controlled colony and in this, India will start exploiting Bangladesh by turning it into whole India. And Sheikh Hasina will be the sole ruler of Bangladesh under India. Whatever the fate of Bangladesh and its citizens, at least She will be able to enjoy the power all of her life!
On behalf of the 200 million citizens of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, I say -
we common citizens of Bangladesh will never let that happen as long as we have at least 1 drop of blood left in our body. 53 years ago in exchange for 3 million martyrs and 0.25 million women being raped, the people of Bangladesh who were freed from Pakistan's slavery will never accept India's slavery again.
Joy Bangla, Joy Bangladesh. Let the tyranny be overthrown, let the democracy be liberated.

Bro you missed another point from mentioning here....... Don't you think mujib is not a saint who thought only for the upliftment of Bangladeshis....... He is the reason for culture of political violence in Bangladesh, he used to bring masses together to fight against pakistani military dictatorship but once he got power in his hand he turned into the most brutal dictator...... His "rakkhi bahini" killed so many bangladeshis, his policies brought famine in Bangladesh which killed 1.5 million people and at the same time mujib is busy in his son's luxurious wedding, when people starved his son is wearing a golden crown in wedding........ According to me mujib is nothing but a brutal dictator who used the hardships of common bangladeshis for his own political selfishness........

I myself is a son of an Bangladeshi Freedom Fighter (my father is also an elected freedom fighter commander)
As he has seen the corruption inside the government. He told us to never use any quota or to never join politics. Then we asked why? And he said, he fought for the country because of his love for the country. But as it seems the government is a dictator and all the government job is full with corrupted money which in Islamic way we say "Haram money" which will never take us to heaven. So my father didn't want us to work for the government or join politics because he understood that his love is for the country, and he don't want that love to become a corrupted power which will lead his child's to hell and not heaven.
As a Freedom Fighter son, I think most of the freedom fighters thinks in this way, because they loved the country. Not corruption. So my question is, a dictator government who is known mostly for vanishing billions of dollars, how come she has that good heart to kill general students for quota? Or is it only for securing jobs for those BSL (Bangladesh student league) peoples? Those who learn how to murder people rather touching a book.
For your information, 100% of Bangladesh general true students does not support BSL. Because every single person in this country knows that BSL is just Dictator Hasina's mass murder weapon!
    Please help us.
Thanks for reading and sorry for my bad English.

It’s absolutely unfortunate for Bangladeshi peoples specially students to get killed by their own government for a peaceful protesting for their employment rights, whereas in Bangladesh unemployment rate is more than any other developing countries in the world. 1971 Bangladesh separated from Pakistan after a bloody war on the basis of their equal opportunity in all sectors of employment, education and economic disparities. But after more than 52 years of separation the people of Bangladesh facing even worse disparities in all sectors and getting kills by their own government authorities. It is definitely unacceptable.

Bangladesh Prime Minister used a very derogatory word like Razakar against the students which infuriated them. It is unfortunate that this was the biggest agitation of students after 1971 in which 173 students lost their lives. My heartfelt condolence to the families of the deceased students.

For the people who dont know, they might ask why the govt is hellbent on keeping 56% of quota when the whole country doesnt want? The answer is really simple, the awami league govt is in illegal power for over 15 years and they know this might be the last term of their rule so they want to fill every Bangladeshi institutions and org with their loyalists before they go. In fact they have done a huge chunk of that in last 15 years. For exam, the army chief is hasinas direct relative, the judges from high and supreme court became judge through this quota system. In BD like other countries its really tough to remove govt officers from their pos and thats why abami league is not ready to let the quota go.

About 420 people were killed and the number of injured exceeded 45 thousand and about 5,000 people were arrested, including students and activists of various groups. What is the solution? Bangladesh administration and media are publishing wrong news. Bangladesh has lost network from all over the world for last 4 days but what is the solution and they are killing at will. Movement is still going on in Bangladesh. But after the curfew he ordered to shoot. But what is the solution? People of Bangladesh are in danger today. Students are in danger.
