I saw Bill, this drummer, and a viola player back around 2000-2010. It was "The Beautiful Dreamers" tour. They did "Strawberry Fields Forever." Very well done.

I don't care what anyone says... Bill Frisell is only as good as those playing with him. These guys listen AND are empathetic AND able to deliver the goods. Not just good musicians in the same room....with Bill. Why why why do we have to say "everything" is good. But this is good.

Probably Bill's best trio, though Kermit and Joey are no slouches...Some of the tunes in here:
My Man’s Gone Now (George Gershwin)
    Valentine (Bill Frisell)
Keep Your Eyes Open (Bill Frisell)
    Lotus Blossom (Billy Strayhorn)
    Strange Meeting (Bill Frisell)
    Follow Your Heart (John McLaughlin)
    Baba Drame (Boubacar TraorÃĐ)
What the World Needs Now Is Love (Burt Bacharach)
    We Shall Overcome (Charles Tindley)
You Only Live Twice (John Barry)

What a magnificent concert! That version of 'Strange Meeting' is worth its weight in gold - the best one i've heard Bill play! It really manages to convey the enigmatic beauty of that tune in new ways. Utmost gratitude to Rudy Royston and Thomas Morgan, all around amazing musicians that really allow Bill to further expand these excellent tunes! Beautiful stuff - mila esker!

Agree. Fantastic version of what might just be the definitive Frisell composition. Rudy's drumming is perfect - it's what makes this so outstanding. Bill always looks like he's still learning to play the guitar (I suppose, in a way, he is). This is as good a group as he has ever led.

What a magical set! Also, am I the only one getting a giggle from the thought of what the audience must be doing? I can just imagine some guy in the audience biting into his mild hot wings with the 2 celery stalks and ranch on the side, then he points his finger up at the 22 year old waitress, asking for one more bottle Corona.

@@cfibanez Well i don't think that it is boring for real, but perhaps a bit difficult to ear for a long time if you are not a jazz musician. Yes everyone has his personnal limits in feeling, understanding or liking complex melodies or dissonants chords or other structures and rythms.

According to research, most novices will like a cheap wine better than a more expensive one. It takes practice and experience to appreciate something more complex. I've listened to jazz for 40 years. Once I got a double live CD with Miles Davis. It took ten years before I could fully appreciate it. And no, I'm not a musician, although lately I occasionally try to play the drums.
