    Hello from Texas, Here in Texas we call this "apple cobbler." We use cinnamon nutmeg.. We don't use a custard. I am going to use a custard next time I make this.. By the way cobblers are popular here.. Thank you very much for sharing..

    • @MrPaulsPantry
      @MrPaulsPantry  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Monique, Thanks for watching and taking time to comment, I really do appreciate that. In my future videos I will be putting the weight of egg required as well. In the bakery we had to weigh them as we purchased them already cracked in plastic buckets.

    • @moniquem783
      @moniquem783 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MrPaulsPantry oh wow! I didn’t even know that was a thing! I guess if you add up those few seconds it takes to crack an egg for every single egg that you use in a bakery that would add up to be quite a time saver to buy them already cracked. And would save a few trips out with the rubbish too. Makes complete sense when you start thinking about it!
      Weights will be really handy. I have one girl that lays precious little eggs with blue shells that are about 50 grams. The white eggs from another girl are about 60 grams. The ISA browns lay 65-70 gram eggs, and the Australorps lay eggs anywhere from 65 grams up to enormous double yolkers! So if I know the weight I need I know which eggs to combine. One of the Australorps regularly laid eggs that wouldn’t fit into an egg carton when she was a bit younger! Her record was 129 grams. Poor darling! She’s not laying very often now as she’s quite old, almost 8, but she will get to live out her days happily and be doted on even if she never lays another egg for me. She has more than earned her keep for life!!

    Thank you Paul for pointing out to me about lemon juice brings out the taste of the apple. I made the pudding the sponge was not great. Here in Malaysia total lockdown. I was unable to go to the grocery store for self. Had to do with plain flour hence sponge topping flat. I will be making apple Charlotte next week. TQ for Ur delicious and easy to follow instructions.

      Well Dorothy, as a commercial baker I never buy self-raising flour, always Plain plu baking powder, that way I can adjust the raising agent as and when. If you can't het baking powder use Bicarb of soda and a little buttermilk (make that with milk and a little lemon juice) see my recipe at: mr-pauls-pantry.com/make-butter-milk/

    It may have been beginners luck but the sponge was so light & fluffy...
    Would this recipe work as a syrup or jam sponge??

    • @MrPaulsPantry
      @MrPaulsPantry  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not beginners luck, remember I've tested the recipe so may time over the years, it's got to work. As for your question, Yes, but won't be exactly the same texture, as the moisture from the fruit helps the sponge to rise. But it does work with other fruits, like plums, pears, fruits of the forest, etc. Thanks for the feedback, letting me know how it went.
