  • The Merlion is a mythical creature and a popular symbol of Singapore. It is a half-lion and half-fish creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish, representing Singapore's origins as a fishing village and its modern identity as a lion city.
The Merlion statue is located in Merlion Park, near the waterfront of Marina Bay. It was designed by Alec Fraser-Brunner and was first unveiled in 1964. The original Merlion statue was only 8.6 meters tall and had water spouting out from its mouth, but it was later relocated and replaced by a larger, 37-meter-tall version.
The Merlion has become an iconic symbol of Singapore and is often used to represent the city-state in tourism and marketing campaigns.
